Our first stop is always Mariscos Cisneros.
It is tucked right in Old Town, which some people call Zona Romantica, honestly, they are the same wonderful place.
This spot is a total local favorite for a reason.
It is not fancy, but the food is absolutely AMAZING!!
My personal favorite is the ceviche de pescado tostada.
They pile the fish so high you can barely see the crispy tortilla underneath.
The lime is sharp, the cilantro is fresh, and the spice level is just enough to make you reach for your drink.
We LOVE coming here because it feels like you are part of the neighborhood.
If you are a solo traveller, this is a great place to sit at the counter and just soak in the energy.
Beachfront Bliss at Sapphire Ocean Club
If you want your ceviche with a side of ocean breeze, you have to head south.
We spent a whole afternoon at Sapphire Ocean Club recently.
It is located right on the edge of the Amapas area, which we think is the absolute best place to rent.
The ceviche here is a bit more refined but still packs that traditional punch.
I had the shrimp ceviche, and it was so succulent and perfectly balanced.
Best of all, you are literally steps away from some of the most beautiful puerto vallarta apartments available.
Being in Amapas gives you this perfect mix of privacy and proximity.
You can walk to the beach clubs in minutes, but you still get that peaceful hillside vibe.
Why Amapas Is the Winner
We always tell our friends that if they are looking for the best experience, they should stay in Amapas.
It sits just above the south end of Los Muertos Beach.
The views from the condos there are simply unbeatable.
Our favorite part is the walk down into town.
You get to see all the colorful architecture and feel the ocean air.
It is also much quieter than being right on the main strip of Olas Altas.
When you want to relax after a long day of eating and swimming, having a modern home to return to is everything.
A Quick Trip to Versalles: Lamara
Okay, this one is a tiny bit of a trek, but trust me, it is SOOO worth it.
Lamara is located in the Versalles neighborhood, which is just a short taxi ride away.
They specialize in creative ceviches and aguachiles.
We tried the "Tropical" ceviche last time, and the mix of fruit and fresh fish was out of this world.
It is fresh, modern, and very cool.
They serve everything in big bowls that are meant for sharing, but honestly, I wanted to keep it all for myself.

The Vibe at Mantamar
For those days when you want high energy and music, Mantamar is the place to be.
It is also in the Amapas area, right on the sand.

We really enjoyed the tuna tiradito here as well.
It is definitely a "see and be seen" kind of place, which can be a lot of fun.
But when we are done with the party, we love retreating back to our quiet space.
It is all about that balance of having the fun nearby but the peace at home.
Planning Your Own Ceviche Crawl
If you are coming to visit soon, I highly recommend making your own list.
Start in Old Town for the traditional stuff.
Then move south toward Amapas for the beach club experience.
Don't be afraid to try the little stands on the street either.
Some of the best fish I have ever had came from a guy with a cooler and a dream.
We always feel so grateful for the incredible food culture here.
It is one of the main reasons we keep coming back year after year.
