We spend a lot of time in Puerto Vallarta, and we have learned that packing for Amapas is a little different from packing for a regular beach trip.
You need clothes for warm, humid days, shoes for hills and cobblestones, and enough work gear for two people sharing a condo. The goal is to bring what helps you feel comfortable without filling every corner of your suitcase.
Amapas is our favorite place to rent because it combines peaceful condo living, beautiful views, and easy access to Old Town, the beach, cafés, and restaurants.
Start with the right suitcase plan
For a couple, we recommend one larger suitcase for clothing and one smaller carry-on for work equipment and important personal items.
Keeping laptops, chargers, documents, and medication in your carry-on makes arrival much easier. It also gives you access to the items you need if checked luggage is delayed.
Use packing cubes for clothing and a small cable pouch for your electronics. This simple system keeps your condo organized after you arrive, especially when both of you are working different schedules.
1. Breathable clothing for work and warm weather
Amapas is warm for much of the year, so lightweight fabrics make a big difference.
Pack linen, cotton, rayon, or other breathable materials. For each person, we suggest:
- Three or four lightweight shirts
- Two pairs of shorts or relaxed trousers
- One casual outfit for working from a café
- Two swimsuits
- Two cover-ups or beach layers
- One light long-sleeve shirt
- One comfortable outfit for dinner
- Enough underwear for several days
A lightweight button-down shirt is especially useful. It looks neat on a video call, protects your shoulders during a walk, and works for a casual dinner later.
We avoid heavy denim and thick fabrics because they take longer to dry in humid weather. A smaller selection of breathable pieces is much easier to manage.

2. Shoes with grip for Amapas hills
Amapas has hillside streets, steps, and uneven surfaces. Comfortable footwear is one of the most important things you can pack.
Bring one pair of walking shoes or sturdy sandals with good grip. We use these for grocery trips, beach walks, and getting around Old Town.
Also pack:
- Comfortable flip-flops with textured soles
- Flat sandals or clean sneakers for dinner
- Water shoes if you plan to explore rocky shorelines or take a boat trip
Leave delicate shoes and smooth-soled footwear at home. They are not practical on cobblestones, and you will probably reach for your most comfortable pair every day.
If you work from your condo, good walking shoes also help you take proper breaks. A short walk for coffee feels much better when your feet are comfortable.
3. A two-person remote-work kit
Working from Amapas is easy when you prepare for the small details.
Each person should bring:
- Laptop and charger
- Phone and charging cable
- Headphones or earbuds
- Compact mouse
- Laptop stand, if you use one
- Small keyboard, if needed
- Cable organizer
- Portable power bank
A compact power strip is one of our favorite shared items. Condo outlets are not always beside the table or sofa where you want to work, so a small strip lets both of you charge devices in one place.
Noise-canceling headphones are also useful. One person may be on a call while the other is writing, reading, or taking a break. Headphones help you share a space without interrupting each other.

4. Internet and power backups
Many condos offer fast Wi-Fi, but remote workers should still pack a backup plan.
Before traveling, download important files for offline access. Save booking details, work documents, meeting information, and emergency contacts on both phones.
A travel eSIM or mobile hotspot can help if the condo network needs attention or you decide to work from a café. Check that your phone is unlocked and that your mobile plan works in Mexico.
We also recommend bringing:
- A small power bank
- A second charging cable for each phone
- A universal adapter if needed for your devices
- A portable hotspot or eSIM
- Offline copies of important documents
You do not need a large amount of equipment. A few small backups can prevent a stressful workday.
5. Sun protection and hydration
The coastal sun can feel strong, especially when you are walking uphill or spending time near the water.
Pack sunscreen that you already know works well for you, plus lip balm with SPF. We also bring sunglasses and a hat for longer walks.
Your daily bag should include:
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Hat or cap
- Reusable water bottle
- Lip balm with SPF
- Hand sanitizer
- Small towel or scarf
A reusable water bottle is especially helpful in Amapas. You may walk farther than expected because of the hills, and having water with you makes errands and beach trips more comfortable.
6. Rain protection for sudden showers
If you visit during the wetter part of the year, pack a light rain jacket or compact poncho.
A waterproof pouch or dry bag protects your phone, passport, and electronics when a quick shower arrives. We like a small waterproof day bag because it works for walking, boat trips, and carrying work gear.
Do not bring a large, heavy raincoat. A packable layer is easier to store and gives you enough protection for short showers.
7. Toiletries, medication, and personal items
Bring any medication you use regularly in your carry-on. Keep it in its original packaging, and pack enough for the entire trip plus a little extra.
A small personal-care kit should include:
- Prescription medication
- Basic first-aid supplies
- Pain reliever
- Motion-sickness tablets if needed
- Insect repellent
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Preferred skincare products
- Contact lenses or glasses
- Personal hygiene items
Amapas has shops and pharmacies nearby, but bringing your preferred products saves time. It also helps you settle into your condo without needing to search for essentials immediately.

8. A comfortable daily bag
A small backpack or crossbody bag is more useful than a large purse for everyday plans.
Choose something that can hold your phone, wallet, water bottle, sunscreen, and a light layer. If one of you carries a laptop, use a padded bag that closes securely.
For beach days, add a foldable tote. It takes almost no room in your suitcase and gives you extra space for towels, snacks, and dry clothes.
We also like having one small pouch for keys and access cards. Keeping these items together makes it easier to leave the condo quickly for coffee or a walk.
9. One outfit for a relaxed dinner
You do not need to overpack dress clothes. One polished but comfortable outfit per person is enough for most evenings.
Think of:
- A light dress or jumpsuit
- A linen shirt
- Breathable trousers
- A clean polo
- Flat sandals or simple sneakers
Choose pieces that still feel comfortable after walking on uneven streets. A nice outfit is only useful if you can enjoy the evening without worrying about your shoes or the heat.
10. Small items that make working as a couple easier
The best packing list includes a few items that support your routine together.
Bring a small travel notebook, a deck of cards, or a compact game for breaks between work sessions. A clip-on reading light can be useful if one person works late while the other rests.
We also recommend agreeing on a simple work setup before you arrive. Decide who takes the table, when calls happen, and where chargers go. This prevents small frustrations from turning into bigger ones.
A one-bedroom condo such as Hummingbird can work very well for couples who want a comfortable base with a defined workspace, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a kitchen for simple meals.
What to leave at home
We leave heavy sweaters, uncomfortable shoes, oversized beach gear, and duplicate electronics at home.
You probably do not need several formal outfits, a full-size hair dryer, or multiple large bags. Most couples can pack lighter by sharing sunscreen, toiletries, a power strip, and a first-aid kit.
A lighter suitcase also makes arrival easier, especially when you are moving through the airport and then heading uphill to Amapas.
