I have spent enough workdays in Puerto Vallarta to know that a good lunch break can completely change the rest of the afternoon. In Amapas, we can step away from our screens, eat something fresh, and return to work feeling focused instead of tired.
For couples and digital nomads, Amapas offers an especially good balance. We get peaceful condo living, strong views, and easy access to the cafés and restaurants of Old Town, also known as Zona Romantica.
The area is hilly, so I plan my lunch breaks carefully. A downhill walk is easy, but the return trip takes a little more effort. That is part of the rhythm here, and it helps create a clear break between work and personal time.

Start with a clear work boundary
My best lunch breaks begin before I leave the condo.
If I am working with my partner, we agree on a simple stopping point. One of us may finish an email while the other closes a video call. Then we both leave the laptops behind, or put them fully away if we need to take them with us.
This small habit matters. A lunch break feels much more refreshing when it is not interrupted by constant notifications.
A comfortable condo also makes this routine easier. Casa Vizcarra 1, for example, includes a stocked kitchen, air conditioning, strong Wi-Fi, and an Ethernet port. That gives us the option to prepare a quick meal at home on a busy workday or walk out for a local lunch when we want a change of scene.
For couples, I recommend deciding whether lunch is for conversation or quiet recovery. Both work well, but it helps to agree before leaving. One person may want to talk through the day while the other needs a calm meal without discussing work.
Choose The Hustle for a work-focused lunch
The Hustle is one of the most practical options in or near Amapas when we want lunch and focused work in the same place.
The setup is designed for people who spend time on laptops. There is enough table space to open a computer without feeling cramped, and the atmosphere suits a couple who wants to work separately while sharing a meal.
I like this option when we have a lighter afternoon schedule. We can order lunch, answer a few messages, and finish one focused task before walking back toward the condo.
The important thing is to choose the right kind of work. A café lunch is ideal for email, writing, planning, and project reviews. For long video meetings or large file uploads, I prefer using the condo connection or a dedicated coworking space.
A simple rule helps: order first, settle in, and test the Wi-Fi before starting anything important.
Use Outpost or Playroom PV for a longer focus block
When we have a more demanding workday, Outpost or Playroom PV can be a stronger choice.
The atmosphere is more productivity-focused than a typical restaurant. It works well when one person needs to concentrate while the other handles calls, messages, or independent work.
I enjoy this kind of lunch break because it gives the day some structure. We can arrive with a clear plan, eat without rushing, and work through a short list of priorities before heading home.
For couples, this is also a good way to share a workday without sitting in the same condo room for hours. We are together, but we each have enough space to follow our own schedule.
I still check the noise level before settling in. The mood can change as the day moves along, so a quieter table is usually best if we have an important call afterward.

Walk downhill to Café Catedral
Café Catedral sits near the edge of Amapas and is a useful choice when we want a proper lunch with a calmer café setting.
The walk downhill gives us a natural reset after a long stretch at the screen. I usually leave the condo without rushing, enjoy the neighborhood streets, and arrive ready to eat rather than thinking about the next task.
The tables are better suited to a focused meal and a short work session than many small coffee shops. The Wi-Fi is generally considered dependable, but I still recommend checking the connection before joining a call.
This is one of my favorite options for a 60- to 90-minute lunch break:
- Walk down from Amapas without checking work messages.
- Order lunch and water before opening the laptop.
- Eat the first half of the meal without working.
- Use the remaining time for email or planning.
- Walk back uphill and leave the laptop closed until arriving.
That structure keeps lunch from turning into another full work session.
Take a lighter break in Old Town
Sometimes we do not need a serious work café. We just need a good meal, a little movement, and a change of surroundings.
A Page in the Sun is a useful option in Old Town for a light lunch, coffee, reading, or a short work session. The bookstore and café setting feels creative without being too distracting, and it suits couples who want to talk between tasks.
Lulú Pan Francés Café is another good choice when we want bakery-style food and a relaxed table. It can work as a temporary office for a short period, especially when the main goal is to clear email or review notes.
El Sofa Cafe is better for a shorter stop. I would use it for lunch, messages, and light admin rather than a full afternoon of calls. It is the kind of place where we can eat well, finish one small task, and then continue walking through the neighborhood.
Because Old Town and Zona Romantica are the same area, I treat these options as part of the same easy downhill lunch zone from Amapas.
Build a lunch rhythm that works for two
Working as a couple requires a little coordination, especially when both people have different schedules.
Our most useful habit is to choose one shared lunch break instead of taking several distracted breaks. Even 45 minutes away from the screen can make the afternoon feel more manageable.
We also divide small tasks. One person checks the café location and walking route while the other finishes the current work block. At lunch, one person can order while the other chooses a table with a nearby outlet or the quietest position.
I bring a small power bank, headphones, and a reusable water bottle. Comfortable walking shoes also matter because the streets around Amapas can be steep and uneven.
I avoid carrying too much. A phone, wallet, water, and a light bag are usually enough for a simple lunch break.
Prepare for the return walk
The walk back to Amapas is part of the experience, but it is not always effortless after a full meal.
I leave extra time before the next meeting, especially if we are returning from Old Town. A ten-minute buffer gives us time to climb the hill, cool down, refill water, and reconnect to the condo Wi-Fi.
If one of us has an important call, we return earlier and take the call from the condo instead of trying to rush back at the last moment.
This is another reason I prefer Amapas for remote work. The neighborhood gives us easy access to restaurants and cafés, but our own work area is never far away.

My ideal Amapas lunch break
On a normal workday, I start with a focused work block at the condo. Around midday, my partner and I close our laptops and walk downhill.
We choose The Hustle when we want to keep working lightly, Café Catedral when we want a proper sit-down lunch, or Old Town when we need a bigger change of scene.
We eat first, talk about something unrelated to work, and only open a laptop if there is a simple task left. Afterward, we walk back uphill with enough time to settle in before the next call.
That routine feels productive without making the entire day about work.
For a couple or digital nomad choosing a Puerto Vallarta home base, Amapas is my top recommendation. It gives us a peaceful place to stay, colorful local food nearby, and practical lunch options that make remote work feel more balanced.
Amapas is highly recommended for couples and digital nomads who want focused workdays with real breaks, walkable local meals, and a comfortable condo base close to Old Town.
