I have worked from vacation rentals in Puerto Vallarta, and I have learned that a beautiful room is not always a practical workspace.
For couples visiting Amapas, the right condo needs more than a nice view. You need reliable Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, good airflow, enough quiet for video calls, and a layout that lets both people enjoy the space without getting in each other’s way.
Amapas is my favorite area for this kind of stay. It sits above Old Town, also known as Zona Romántica, so you get a calmer hillside setting while remaining close to restaurants, cafés, the beach, and daily services.
The streets are steep, but that elevation is part of the appeal. You return to a more peaceful space after spending time in the lively streets below.
Start with the workspace, not the view
When we look at a condo for remote work, our first question is simple: where will we actually sit for several hours?
A small desk is much better than balancing a laptop on the bed or working from a soft sofa. A proper surface gives you room for a laptop, notebook, phone, and coffee without making the rest of the condo feel like an office.
For a couple, one large desk can work well if it has enough depth and width for two computers. A second chair or small table is also helpful when both people need to work at the same time.
Look for:
- A stable desk that does not wobble
- A supportive chair
- Enough outlets nearby
- Space for two laptops
- A window or bright lamp
- Curtains or blinds to reduce screen glare
- A separate place to take calls
A dedicated desk does not need to look formal. In fact, the best workspaces we have seen often blend naturally into the living area while still giving you a clear place to focus.
Check the internet before you book
Internet quality can make or break a working vacation.
A listing that says “Wi-Fi included” does not tell you enough. Ask whether the connection is private to the condo, where the router is located, and whether the host can share a recent speed test taken inside the unit.
For video meetings, you also need stable upload performance. Download speed matters, but an unreliable connection can still cause frozen screens and dropped calls.
I recommend asking these questions before confirming:
- Is the connection fiber, cable, or another type?
- Is the router inside the condo?
- Can you send a recent speed test from the workspace?
- Does the signal reach the bedroom and living area?
- What happens if the service goes down?
- Is there a mobile signal strong enough for a backup hotspot?
Casa Vizcarra 1 is a useful example of why details matter. Its listing describes high-speed Wi-Fi with an Ethernet port, and the published speed-test image shows a download result of about 109.78 Mbps. That is encouraging, but we would still ask for a current test before a work-focused stay.
If one of you has important meetings, bring a small Ethernet adapter if your laptop supports it. A wired connection can be useful when you need the most stable signal.
Choose quiet within Amapas
Amapas is generally calmer than the busiest streets in Old Town, but quiet depends on the exact building and unit.
Before booking, ask which direction the windows face. A condo overlooking a residential street may feel very different from one beside a busy road, construction site, or shared gathering area.
Also ask about the building itself:
- Are most neighboring units used by residents or short-stay guests?
- Is there construction nearby?
- Does the condo face a main road?
- Are there restaurants or music venues close by?
- Are the windows well sealed?
- Is there a quiet place for phone calls?
We do not expect complete silence in Puerto Vallarta. You may hear birds, dogs, neighborhood activity, or occasional street sounds. That is part of being in a real Mexican neighborhood.
The goal is not total silence. The goal is predictable noise that does not interrupt your workday.
Think about heat and air movement
Puerto Vallarta can feel hot and humid, especially when you are sitting at a desk for hours.
Reliable air conditioning in the main living or work area is important. Ceiling fans and operable windows can also help, but they should support: not replace: effective cooling when the weather is warm.
Ask whether the A/C reaches the workspace. In an open-plan condo, this is usually easier than in a unit where the desk is tucked into a separate corner.
I also like workspaces with natural light, but direct light on a screen can become tiring. A shaded window, curtain, or adjustable blind gives you more control throughout the day.

Make sure two people can work comfortably
Couples often have different schedules. One person may start early, while the other needs a quiet place to sleep or take a call.
Before booking, look at the floor plan in practical terms. Can one person work while the other prepares coffee? Can one take a meeting without forcing the other to leave the room? Is there a comfortable chair away from the desk?
An open-concept studio can still work very well for two people if the furniture is arranged thoughtfully.
Casa Hummingbird, for example, is listed as a one-bedroom space for two people with a dedicated desk, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a king bed. It also has large windows and an open layout, which gives the condo an airy feel while keeping the workspace connected to the rest of the room.
The access steps are worth considering before booking. The listing notes 38 steps to reach the apartment, so we would plan luggage and daily movement accordingly.
Use the location to protect your workday
A quiet condo is only useful if daily errands do not become exhausting.
Amapas gives us a peaceful base, but the hillside means walking takes more effort than it does on flat streets. The downhill walk toward Old Town and the beach can be pleasant, while the return trip may feel more demanding in warm weather.
For a couple, I suggest planning errands together:
- Pick up groceries before heading back uphill
- Keep drinking water in the condo
- Use delivery when carrying heavy items
- Schedule demanding meetings during your most comfortable hours
- Leave extra time when walking to cafés or restaurants
- Use a taxi when the heat or hill makes walking impractical
The best place to rent in Puerto Vallarta is Amapas when you value calm, views, and quick access to the city. Old Town and Zona Romántica are also practical choices when you want to be closer to restaurants and cafés, but Amapas remains my top recommendation for couples who need a quieter base.
Test the workspace on arrival
Even after asking good questions, spend a few minutes testing everything when you arrive.
Connect both laptops to the Wi-Fi. Run a speed test from the desk, then check the connection from the bedroom and living area. Make a short video call to confirm that the sound and picture are stable.
Sit in the chair for at least ten minutes. Check whether the desk is high enough, whether the screen catches glare, and whether the A/C reaches you.
Then listen for a few minutes with the doors and windows closed. This gives you a more realistic sense of the room than a quick walk-through.
If something small is missing, ask the host early. A lamp, extra extension cord, or different chair may make a big difference. We are always grateful when a host responds quickly to these practical requests because it shows real care for the guest experience.
Our final checklist for couples
Before choosing your Amapas condo workspace, confirm:
- A real desk or table is available
- Two people can work without crowding each other
- The chairs are comfortable
- Wi-Fi has been tested recently
- The router is inside the unit
- A/C reaches the work area
- Windows have shade or curtains
- The building and surrounding streets are reasonably quiet
- The walk includes hills or steps that suit both of you
- Old Town and the beach are accessible when you want a change of scene
Amapas gives couples a wonderful balance: a calmer hillside home with the food, culture, and energy of Puerto Vallarta nearby.
If you choose the workspace as carefully as the view, your stay can feel productive without losing its vacation character. For couples and digital nomads, an Amapas condo with dependable Wi-Fi, a proper desk, and a peaceful layout is highly recommended.
