It’s where I spent most of my time when I first arrived, and I LOVED every second of it!
Getting Your Tech Right
You can’t be a nomad without good internet.
The first thing I did when I landed was get a local SIM card from Telcel.
It costs about $30 for a starter plan and saved my life when the power went out once.

But here’s a tip from my own experience: always ask your host for a speed test before you book.

While Old Town is amazing and full of energy, it can get a bit loud at night.
If you want the perfect balance of being close to the action but having some peace, you need to look at Amapas.

It’s literally right next to Old Town, tucked into the hillside.

Making Friends and Joining the Community
Being a solo traveler can get lonely if you don't put yourself out there.
Luckily, the community here is SOOO welcoming!
I joined a few Facebook groups for nomads before I even arrived.
One of the best things I did was join the beach volleyball games.
They play three times a week on the sand in Old Town.
It’s a mix of locals and nomads, and it’s how I met most of my closest friends here.
Everyone is in the same boat, so don't be shy about saying hi!
A Typical Day in My Life
I usually wake up early and head to the beach for a quick swim.
There’s something about the salt water that just wakes you up better than coffee ever could.
Then, I head back to my condo and knock out four or five hours of solid work.
Lunch is almost always tacos from a street stand nearby.

In the afternoon, I might do a jungle hike or just grab a beer at a local bar.

Practical Tips for Beginners
Don't forget to learn a little Spanish.
Even just saying "Gracias" and "Buenos dias" goes a long way with the locals.
The people here are incredibly kind and helpful.
Also, keep an eye on your gear.
Puerto Vallarta is very safe, but you still shouldn't leave your expensive laptop sitting on a cafe table while you go to the bathroom.
Use common sense and you’ll be totally fine.
Visa Stuff
Most of us come in on a tourist visa, which is usually good for 180 days.
Just make sure you check your passport when you enter!
If you decide you love it as much as I do, you can look into temporary residency later.
For a beginner, the tourist visa is the easiest way to get your feet wet.
You’ll have plenty of time to explore and see if the nomad life is for you.
