We are so excited for you to visit our favorite place in the world.
There is nothing quite like waking up in Puerto Vallarta.
The air is warm and the vibes are always good.
We spend a lot of time here and we have learned exactly what you need to bring.
If you are a solo traveler or coming with the whole family, packing right makes a huge difference.
We always recommend staying in the Amapas area.
It is the absolute best place to rent because you get the best views and you are still so close to everything.
You can walk down to Old Town in just a few minutes.
Zona Romantica is the heart of the action, but Amapas is where you find the peace.
We LOVE the quiet nights in Amapas after a day of fun in the sun.
Before you zip up your suitcase, check out our list of essentials.
1. Three or More Swimsuits
You might think two is enough.
It is not.
The humidity in puerto vallarta condo rentals is very real.
Your swimsuit will not dry overnight.
There is nothing worse than putting on a damp, cold suit in the morning.
We suggest packing at least three.
This way, you always have a dry one ready for the beach.
You will be spending a lot of time in the water, trust us.
2. Biodegradable Sunscreen
The sun here is strong.
It is soooo much better to buy your sunscreen before you arrive.
It can be very expensive in the local shops near the rentals.
We always look for biodegradable options.
It is better for the ocean and the reefs.
Make sure it is at least SPF 30 or higher.
You want to enjoy your vacation without a nasty burn.

3. Extra Pairs of Sunglasses
We have lost so many pairs of shades in the ocean.
The waves can be sneaky.
Pack at least two pairs of sunglasses.
One can be your "nice" pair and one can be your "beach" pair.
The sun is bright and you will need them from sunrise to sunset.
It is one of those small things that can ruin a day if you lose them.
4. Flip-Flops with Good Tread
You will live in flip-flops.
But remember, the streets in Old Town can be slippery.
The cobblestones are beautiful but tricky.
Make sure your flip-flops have some grip on the bottom.
We also suggest bringing water shoes if you plan on doing any boat tours.
Comfort is key when you are exploring the neighborhood.
5. Stylish Cover-ups
You will be moving from the beach to lunch a lot.
Most places in Zona Romantica are casual.
But you still need a cover-up to walk into a restaurant.
Pack a couple of lightweight ones.
They don't take up much room in your bag.
They keep you cool and looking good while you grab some tacos.

6. A Wide-Brimmed Hat
A hat is your best friend in Mexico.
It protects your face and keeps you cool.
Plus, it looks great in photos on your balcony.
We find that a straw hat works best because it lets your head breathe.
Just make sure it fits well so it doesn't blow away on a boat.
7. Bug Spray and Mosquito Repellent
The mosquitoes love Puerto Vallarta as much as we do.
They are especially active around sunset.
We highly recommend packing a good bug spray.
You can find it here, but it’s easier to have your favorite brand with you.
It makes sitting on the balcony much more pleasant.
We love watching the sunset without being eaten alive!
8. Lightweight Clothing
Forget the heavy fabrics.
Linen and cotton are the only way to go.
Pack plenty of tank tops and shorts.
It is warm and humid most of the year.
You want clothes that feel light and airy.
Even at night, you won't need much more than a light shirt.
If you are looking for condo rentals in Amapas, you will appreciate having cool clothes for the walk home.
9. A Waterproof Day Bag
You will be heading out on adventures.
Whether it’s a boat trip or just a day at Los Muertos beach, you need a dry bag.
It keeps your phone, wallet, and camera safe from the sand and water.
A medium-sized waterproof backpack is perfect.
We use ours every single day.

10. Personal Toiletries and Meds
Don't rely on finding everything at the local farmacia.
Pack your favorite lip balm with SPF.
Bring any medications you use regularly.
Items like feminine care products or specific lotions can be pricey here.
Having them in your suitcase saves you a trip to the store.
More time for the beach!
Why Amapas is the Best Choice
When we look for condo rental in puerto vallarta, we always stick to Amapas.
It is just south of the main city area.
You get these AMAZING views of Banderas Bay.
It feels a bit more private than being right in the middle of Old Town.
The hills give you a great workout too!
We love the modern feel of the buildings in this area.
Everything feels fresh and clean.
If you are thinking about real estate opportunities in the future, Amapas is a great place to start looking.
What to Leave at Home
You don't need fancy shoes.
Heels are a nightmare on cobblestones.
Leave the heavy sweaters at home too.
You won't use them.
Keep it simple and light.
That is the secret to a happy Puerto Vallarta trip.

Final Thoughts on Packing
Packing for a rental is a bit different than a hotel.
You have more space to relax.
You might even want to cook a little bit.
Our rentals have great kitchens.
But you still want to travel light.
Most people bring too much.
Stick to the essentials and you will be fine.
