We love Puerto Vallarta. It is my favorite place in the whole world, and I want everyone to experience it without breaking the bank. I have been around here for a long time, and I have learned a few tricks about how to get the most out of your stay while keeping your wallet happy.
Planning a trip can feel like a lot of work. You want a nice place, a great view, and a good location, but you do not want to spend every penny before you even get here. The good news is that you can totally find amazing puerto vallarta vacation condos that fit your budget if you know where to look and when to book.
Timing is Everything
If you want to save the most money, you have to look at the calendar. Puerto Vallarta has seasons, just like everywhere else.
From November to April, the weather is perfect. It is sunny and cool, and everyone wants to be here. This is the peak season. If you come during this time, you need to book early. I mean months and months in advance. If you wait too long, the best spots get taken and the prices go up.
But if you are looking for a real deal, think about the off-season. Between May and October, things change. It gets hotter and a bit more humid. We get some amazing tropical rain in the afternoons, which I actually LOVE because everything turns so green and lush.
During these months, you can find some of the best condo rentals in puerto vallarta mexico for much lower prices. The crowds are gone, the beaches are quiet, and you can really live like a local.
Location, Location, Location
Where you stay matters just as much as when you stay. Most people head straight for the big hotels, but those can be so expensive.
I always tell my friends to look at specific neighborhoods. For me, Amapas is the best place to rent. It is tucked just above the hustle and bustle of the town, so you get incredible views and a bit of peace, but you are still just a short walk away from the beach and all the fun.
Amapas feels a bit more residential and relaxed. If you want to know more about how it compares to other spots, check out my post on Choosing the Right Neighborhood.
Staying in Amapas or the nearby Zona Romantica (which some people call Old Town) means you can walk almost everywhere. When you don't have to pay for taxis or Ubers every time you want a taco, those savings really add up!

Book Directly and Save
This is a big one. We all use the big booking websites because they are easy, but they often add a lot of extra fees. These fees don't go to the owner, and they don't help your vacation. They just disappear into the website's pockets.
When you find a place you love, try to book directly with the management or the owner. This is one of the easiest ways to shave off a decent chunk of your total cost. Most of the time, we can give you a better deal because we aren't paying those middleman commissions. It is a win-win for everyone!
Use Your Kitchen
I know, I know. You are on vacation. You want to eat out! And you should, because the food here is SOOO good.
But eating three meals a day at restaurants is the fastest way to blow your budget. This is why I always suggest getting a condo with a full kitchen.

We have some amazing local markets here. Go to the Mercado Municipal or the small shops in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. You can get fresh fruit, local eggs, and handmade tortillas for very little money.
Waking up and having coffee and breakfast on your balcony is one of the best parts of being here. Plus, you can keep your beer and water cold in the fridge instead of buying them at a beach club for three times the price.
Even if you just cook breakfast and maybe one or two dinners at home, you will save hundreds of dollars. And honestly, sitting in your own space with a home-cooked meal and a view of the bay is pretty hard to beat.
Look for the Right Amenities
Before you click "book" on that super cheap place you found, make sure it has what you actually need. Sometimes a place is cheap because it's missing the basics.
I always tell people to check for air conditioning. Even in the winter, you might want it for a few hours to stay comfortable. You also want to make sure there is good Wi-Fi if you need to check emails, and that things like towels and linens are included.
I wrote a whole guide on Essential Amenities for a Perfect PV Rental that you should definitely read. It helps you avoid those "oh no" moments when you arrive and realize there is no hot water or the bed is like a rock.

Walk and Use Public Transport
Puerto Vallarta is a very walkable city, especially if you stay in Amapas or the Zona Romantica. Walking is free, and it is the best way to see the hidden gems of the city. You will find tiny art galleries, cute coffee shops, and beautiful murals that you would miss if you were in a car.
If you need to go further, like up to the Marina or over to Sayulita for a day trip, use the local buses. They are very cheap and quite an experience! They are a bit bumpy, but they are efficient and will save you a ton compared to private tours or long taxi rides.
Stay Flexible
If you can be flexible with your dates, you can often find great deals. Sometimes a condo has a three-day gap between two big bookings. Owners often want to fill those gaps and might give you a special rate if you ask nicely.
Don't be afraid to send a message and ask! We are friendly people and we want our homes to be enjoyed.
Final Thoughts
Puerto Vallarta is a magical place. You don't need a million dollars to have an AMAZING time here. By choosing the right time to visit, staying in a great spot like Amapas, and using your kitchen, you can save so much money.
That extra cash can go toward a sunset boat cruise, a few more rounds of margaritas, or maybe even another trip back next year!
We want your stay to be perfect. If you follow these tips, you will have a much more relaxed and affordable vacation. I highly recommend taking the time to plan just a little bit: it really pays off in the end.

See you on the beach soon!
