We have spent several workcation weeks in Puerto Vallarta, and Amapas is still our favorite place to stay as a couple. It gives us a calm home base for calls and focused work while keeping colorful streets, food, art, and the beach close enough for easy date plans.
If you are working remotely together, the best dates are not always full-day excursions. In Amapas, we can turn a two-hour break into something memorable without losing an entire workday.
Here is how we would plan a creative week for two.
Monday: Make a shared Amapas inspiration board
On the first day, we like to keep things simple. After settling into our condo and checking our work schedules, we take a short walk through Amapas and Old Town to collect visual ideas.
We photograph colorful doors, painted walls, patterned tiles, tropical plants, handmade signs, and small details that catch our attention. We do not need a strict route. The fun comes from choosing a color, shape, or texture and seeing how many examples we can find.
Back at the condo, we turn those photos into a small inspiration board. We might arrange them on a tablet, create a shared album, or sketch a few favorite details in a notebook.
This is a great date for digital nomads because it works around a busy workday. One person can finish a call while the other starts collecting ideas, and then we can compare our favorite discoveries over coffee.
The colorful streets of Old Town are especially useful for this kind of creative walk. We also enjoy looking for murals and public art along the way.

Tuesday: Take a cafe work break with a creative challenge
A cafe date can feel more special when we give it a small purpose. Instead of simply opening our laptops, we choose a creative challenge for the hour.
One week, we each wrote five short notes about what we wanted to remember from Puerto Vallarta. Another time, we drew the same street scene from different angles. We have also taken turns choosing a local ingredient for dinner and researching how it is used in Mexican cooking.
A Page in the Sun is a natural choice when we want coffee, books, and a work-friendly atmosphere. Puerto Cafe is another useful stop for a focused work block and a change of scenery.
We always check our schedules first. If one of us has an important call, we work separately or return to the condo. But when we only have emails and lighter tasks, sharing a table for an hour makes the day feel more connected.
The practical rule is simple: bring headphones, keep your setup compact, and order something while you work. We also avoid staying through the busiest period so that the table remains available for other guests.
After the work block, we put our devices away and take a slow walk back toward Amapas. That short transition helps us switch from work mode to vacation mode.
Wednesday: Create a two-person Mexican art project
Midweek is a good time for a hands-on date. We like activities that leave us with something personal instead of another item saved on our phones.
You could create a travel collage using postcards, colored paper, market finds, and your own photographs. You could also try simple sketching, painting, or a small craft workshop in the area.
We once made a shared collage with blue bay colors, bright yellow walls, green leaves, and terracotta details. Neither of us considered ourselves especially artistic, but that was part of the appeal. We were not trying to create something perfect. We were simply making a memory together.

If you prefer a lighter activity, buy a small notebook and make a “one-page-per-day” travel journal. Each person adds one image, sentence, sketch, or local word before bed.
A comfortable condo makes this kind of date much easier. Hummingbird has the sort of home setting where we can spread out a few supplies, make coffee, and continue the project whenever our schedules allow.
Thursday: Plan an art walk with a phone-free hour
By Thursday, we usually want a proper break from screens. That is when we plan an art walk through Old Town, which is also known as Zona Romantica.
We start with a relaxed walk through the side streets and stop whenever a mural, gallery, or colorful building catches our eye. We take photos at the beginning, but then we put our phones away for at least an hour.
The best part is talking about what we see. One of us may notice the colors while the other focuses on the story or technique. It gives us an easy conversation that feels different from work and travel planning.
We also like making up a small game: each person chooses a favorite piece, and then we explain why. There is no right answer, and it often leads to funny conversations about our very different tastes.
If you want a more organized outing, check the current schedule for gallery evenings and local art events. For a quieter experience, a self-guided afternoon walk works well.
Wear shoes with good grip because the streets and hills can be uneven. Bring water, but keep the plan flexible. A creative date should not feel like another appointment.
Friday: Make dinner from market ingredients
A market date is one of our favorite ways to combine food, creativity, and time at home.
We walk through the local stalls together and choose three ingredients without deciding on a full recipe first. One person looks for vegetables or fruit, while the other chooses herbs, tortillas, cheese, or a local sauce.
Then we return to the condo and build a simple meal around what we found. We may prepare tacos, a fresh salad, grilled vegetables, or a breakfast-style dinner. The point is not to make an elaborate dish. The point is to make decisions together and enjoy the process.
We put on music, divide the work, and keep our phones away unless we need to look up a cooking step. Even washing ingredients becomes more enjoyable when we are not rushing.
This works especially well for couples with different work schedules. One person can start chopping between meetings while the other finishes a task, and then we can cook together later.
The full kitchen and comfortable dining area are also useful during the rest of the workcation week. Having a place to prepare coffee or a quick meal gives us more control over our daily rhythm.
Saturday: Do a photo walk with a shared theme
For our more relaxed day, we choose a theme and explore Amapas with our cameras or phones.
Some of our favorite themes are:
- Blue doors and windows
- Tropical shadows
- Hand-painted tiles
- Local textures
- Street art details
- Interesting balconies and plants
- Color combinations we would use in our own home
We each take our own photos and compare them afterward. It is surprising how differently two people can see the same street.
A photo walk also helps us slow down. Instead of trying to cover every nearby attraction, we notice small details that we might normally miss.
We often finish near the beach or in a cafe, choose our favorite three photos, and write a short caption for each one. That becomes a small visual diary of the trip.

Sunday: Turn the workcation into a memory
On the last day, we like to create something that helps us remember the week after we return home.
We might print a few photos, write a short travel note, or make a simple list of our favorite places. We include practical details such as which cafe worked best for calls, which walk felt easiest, and where we would return for dinner.
We also review our workcation routine. Did we schedule enough breaks? Did we protect our quiet work hours? Did we leave space for spontaneous plans?
That reflection matters because a workcation can quickly become all work and very little vacation. Amapas makes it easier to find balance, but we still need to plan that balance intentionally.
Our favorite routine is to protect the most demanding work hours, keep dates short on busy days, and save longer creative activities for days with fewer calls.
Why Amapas works so well for couples and digital nomads
Amapas gives us a strong mix of quiet, scenery, walkability, and access to the creative energy of Puerto Vallarta. We can work from a comfortable condo, walk downhill for coffee or art, and return to a calmer setting when we need to concentrate.
It also gives couples room to enjoy different work styles. One person can take a call while the other reads, writes, cooks, or goes for a short walk.
Most importantly, the area makes ordinary moments feel special. A coffee break becomes a neighborhood walk. Grocery shopping becomes a market date. An hour without laptops becomes a chance to make something together.
We are grateful for the welcoming local businesses, the artists who fill the streets with color, and the people who make Amapas feel personal rather than ordinary.
If you are planning a workcation week for two, Amapas is the best place to rent in Puerto Vallarta. We highly recommend choosing it as your home base and building your schedule around short, creative dates that fit naturally between work sessions.
