My partner and I have been living the digital nomad life for a few years now, and we’ve seen our fair share of "paradise" destinations. But honestly, nothing has quite compared to our recent stay in the Amapas neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta. If you are looking for that perfect balance between a quiet, professional workspace and a vibrant social scene, you’ve found it.
We spent a month tucked away in the hills of Amapas, and it quickly became our favorite spot in the entire city. It’s technically part of the same vibe as Old Town (which locals also call Zona Romantica), but it feels just a little more exclusive and peaceful.
Amapas is, in our opinion, the absolute best place to rent if you want to be close to the action without living right on top of a bar. We could walk down the hill and be at a world-class restaurant in five minutes, then retreat back to our quiet condo when it was time to hop on a Zoom call.
Setting Up Your Home Office
When we first arrived, we were worried about the internet. As digital nomads, our lives depend on a solid connection. Thankfully, the apartaento de mi sueno we looked at were all equipped with high-speed fiber optics.
I usually start my morning with a cup of local coffee and some fresh mango from the market while I clear my inbox. There’s something about working in a space that feels like a home rather than a sterile hotel room that really boosts productivity.
If you are a solo traveler or a couple who needs two separate "zones" for work, Amapas is great because the condos are generally much more spacious than what you find in the heart of Old Town. I could take my calls in the dining area while my partner set up in the living room, and we never felt like we were tripping over each other.
The Best Coworking Cafes in the Area
Sometimes, we just need to get out of the house to find some fresh inspiration. When the "house fever" hits, we head down the hill into the heart of the neighborhood.
One of our absolute favorite spots is A Page in the Sun. It’s a classic bookstore and cafe that has been a staple of the community for years. The Wi-Fi is reliable, the coffee is strong, and the atmosphere is filled with other people typing away on laptops. It’s a great place to meet other nomads and feel like you’re part of the local scene.
Another gem is Puerto Cafe. It’s a bit smaller and more focused on the art of coffee, but it’s a fantastic place for a focused hour of work. The baristas are incredibly friendly, and we often find ourselves chatting with them about the best local spots to visit on the weekends.
We’ve found that many of the cafes in the area are very welcoming to workers, as long as you keep the coffee and snacks flowing. It’s a great way to support the local economy while getting your work done in a beautiful setting.
Fueling Your Day: Breakfast and Lunch
You can’t work on an empty stomach! One of the joys of staying in Amapas is the incredible food scene right at your doorstep. We are huge fans of a traditional Mexican breakfast, and nothing beats a plate of spicy chilaquiles to start the day.
For lunch, we often wander over to a local deli or a small taco stand. The food here is so fresh and flavorful, it makes it hard to ever want to cook for yourself! If you’re looking to Puerto Vallarta condos for rent by owner that put you near the best eateries, Amapas is where you want to be.
We also love taking a mid-day break to walk through the streets and look at the traditional architecture. There is so much history and color in every corner of this city. Romantic Dinners and Evening Vibes
After the laptops are closed, the real fun begins. Amapas and the adjacent Zona Romantica have some of the most AMAZING dining options I have ever experienced.
For a special date night, we LOVE Mezcal y Sal. Their cocktails are like works of art, and the food is a modern twist on traditional Mexican flavors. It’s the perfect place to unwind and celebrate a productive work week.
If you’re in the mood for seafood, Tuna Azul is another must-visit. The tuna tostadas are out of this world, and the atmosphere is always lively and fun. We’ve met so many interesting people just sitting at the bar there.
One of the best things about living in this area is that you don’t need a car. Everything is walkable, which means you can enjoy a few margaritas at dinner without having to worry about a commute. The walk back up to Amapas after a big meal is also a great way to get some light exercise!
Why Amapas is Our Top Choice
We’ve looked at a lot of different neighborhoods, but we keep coming back to Amapas. It offers a level of comfort and serenity that is hard to find in the more crowded parts of the city.
The buildings here are modern and well-maintained, but they still retain that traditional Mexican feel that we love so much. The interiors are often decorated with local art and vibrant colors, making every day feel like a vacation, even when you’re working.
