After years of spending time in Puerto Vallarta and helping guests settle into condo stays, I know that working remotely as a couple takes a little planning. The right routine can make the difference between a rushed workday and a relaxed morning that still leaves room for beach walks, local food, and exploring the city.
For us, Amapas is the best place to rent for this kind of trip. It gives us a peaceful home base above Zona Romantica, while coffee shops, coworking spaces, restaurants, and the beach are all close by.
The key is to treat the morning like a simple shared system.
Why Amapas works well for remote-working couples
Amapas has a quieter feel than the busiest streets below, which helps when one person needs to join a call and the other needs to concentrate.
The neighborhood is also practical. You can walk downhill into Zona Romantica for coffee, lunch, coworking, and errands. The return trip is uphill, so we usually plan our heavier work blocks before heading back to the condo.
That small detail matters. Nobody wants to finish a long meeting and then climb a steep hill in the middle of the hottest part of the day.
A condo also gives each person more room than a standard hotel room. You can prepare coffee, keep snacks nearby, use a proper table, and take short breaks without disturbing each other.
Hummingbird is a good example of the kind of space that suits a working couple. It has one bedroom, a kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a desk, and a partial ocean view. The condo also has 38 steps leading to it, so we treat the stairs as part of the daily movement routine.

Our simple Amapas morning schedule
7:00–7:30: Wake up without opening the laptop
We try not to start with email.
Instead, we make coffee, open the curtains, and spend a few quiet minutes deciding how the day should feel. This is also when we check the weather and look at any appointments outside the condo.
One of us may want a full workday, while the other may only have a few meetings. Talking about that early prevents small misunderstandings later.
We also decide whether we will work from the condo, a nearby café, or a coworking space. We do not wait until the first meeting starts to make that choice.
7:30–8:00: Prepare the shared workspace
A shared table can work very well for two people if each person has a clear area.
We place one laptop on each side of the table, keep chargers close, and put phones away unless we need them for work. A small notebook helps us write down questions without interrupting each other.
We also test the Wi-Fi before the day gets busy. If both of us have video calls, we check that the connection is stable and make sure our devices are charged.
The condo kitchen makes this part easy. We can prepare coffee, fruit, toast, or something simple without leaving the workspace for too long.

8:00–9:00: Start with quiet work
The first hour is best for tasks that do not require constant conversation.
We use this time for email, writing, planning, editing, and reviewing the day’s priorities. If one of us has a call, the other uses headphones and works quietly.
This is also a good time to visit a nearby coffee shop if neither person needs to be on a call. Amapas and the streets below offer several casual places where you can sit with a laptop, but café Wi-Fi can be less predictable when the space becomes busy.
For important meetings, we prefer a coworking space. Dedicated workspaces usually provide better desks, air conditioning, and a quieter setup for two people working at the same time.
9:00–11:30: Use the strongest work block
This is when we schedule meetings, focused projects, and anything that needs full attention.
If both of us have calls, we avoid trying to speak over each other in the condo. One person can use the desk while the other takes a meeting from a separate room, a coworking space, or a quiet café.
Joint Cowork is a convenient option in Zona Romantica for couples who need a more structured morning. Woke Coworking is another practical choice for remote workers who prefer a dedicated desk and a work-focused environment.
We usually walk downhill when temperatures are comfortable. If our schedules are tight, we take a short ride and save our energy for the workday.
A useful rule is to schedule calls back-to-back whenever possible. That way, we can leave the condo once, complete the busiest part of the morning, and return with fewer interruptions.

How we avoid getting in each other’s way
Working beside your partner sounds easy until both calendars fill up.
We have found that a few simple agreements help:
- We tell each other about important calls before the workday begins.
- We use headphones during meetings.
- We keep one shared “quiet block” with no casual conversation.
- We take breaks at the same time when possible.
- We do not assume that a person wearing headphones is available.
- We leave small household tasks for a planned break instead of interrupting deep work.
We also give each other permission to work separately. A couple does not need to spend every working hour at the same table.
Sometimes one of us stays at the condo while the other walks to a café. Other times, we work side by side at a coworking space and meet for lunch afterward.
That flexibility makes the routine feel supportive instead of restrictive.
A practical backup plan for internet and calls
Even with reliable internet, it is smart to have a backup plan.
Before an important meeting, we make sure both laptops are charged and that our phones have mobile data available. We also save meeting details offline and keep headphones nearby.
If one person has a critical presentation, we use a coworking desk or meeting room rather than depending on a busy café. The other person can work from the condo or choose a quieter table nearby.
Rain can sometimes affect local connections, so we avoid leaving important uploads or presentations until the last minute. A few minutes of preparation prevents a lot of stress.
The same applies to power. Keep chargers together, know where the outlets are, and avoid using every available connection at once.
What to do after the morning work block
By late morning, we like to close the laptops before lunch.
If we are already in Zona Romantica, we walk to a nearby restaurant or café. If we worked from the condo, we prepare something simple in the kitchen and take a proper break.
We may spend the afternoon exploring local markets, walking along the beach, or finding a shaded place to read. A short change of scenery helps us return to work with more energy if we still have tasks left.
Amapas makes this easy because the neighborhood gives us quiet when we need focus and quick access to the activity below when we need a change.
We also enjoy bringing small local touches into the workspace. A colorful ceramic mug, woven textile, or handmade piece from a market can make a temporary condo feel more personal. Our guide to finding unique textiles and local decor has a few ideas for making a rental feel more like home.
A few safety habits we keep
Puerto Vallarta feels welcoming and comfortable for remote-working couples, but we still use normal city awareness.
We keep laptops and phones out of sight when we are walking. We use well-traveled streets, especially when carrying work equipment, and we avoid leaving bags unattended at cafés.
At the condo, we lock the door whenever we leave and keep important documents stored securely. We also share our plans with each other if one person is going out alone.

These habits are simple, but they help us relax because we know we are taking care of the basics.
The routine we recommend
Our favorite Amapas workflow is simple:
- Start the day with coffee and a shared plan.
- Prepare the condo workspace before opening email.
- Use the first hour for quiet tasks.
- Move important calls to a coworking space when needed.
- Schedule a real lunch break.
- Keep the afternoon flexible for work or exploring.
- Return to the condo knowing the main work is already done.
The best part is that the routine still feels like a vacation. We get our work completed, but we also have time to enjoy Puerto Vallarta together.
If you are planning a workcation as a couple, I highly recommend choosing Amapas as your base and setting up a morning workflow before you arrive. Hummingbird is a comfortable option for two people who want a modern condo, a kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, and a peaceful place to work.
