I have spent plenty of mornings shopping, cooking, and working from condos in Puerto Vallarta, and breakfast is one of my favorite ways to settle into Amapas.
For couples and digital nomads, a market-to-table breakfast is simple, fresh, and more personal than rushing out for the first meal of the day. You shop for local ingredients, walk back to your condo, cook together, and still have time to start work without feeling hurried.
Amapas is the best place to rent when you want a quiet home base close to the food, streets, and daily life of Old Town.
Start at Mercado Municipal Emiliano Zapata
For a proper breakfast shop, I head downhill from Amapas to Mercado Municipal Emiliano Zapata in Zona Romantica.
The market sits around Lázaro Cárdenas and Camichín. It is a practical stop for fresh produce, eggs, cheese, tortillas, bread, herbs, and prepared foods.
The market generally opens early, often around 6 or 7 a.m., and many stalls wind down during the afternoon. I prefer going in the morning because the selection is better and the walk is more comfortable before the day becomes hot.
You do not need a complicated plan. Bring a reusable bag, a little cash in pesos, and a short shopping list.

What to Buy for Breakfast
For two people, I usually choose ingredients that can work in more than one dish.
Start with six eggs, a small amount of chorizo, fresh tortillas, queso fresco, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and one avocado. Add a lime or two for brightness.
For fruit, look for whatever is piled high and looks freshest. Mango, papaya, pineapple, bananas, oranges, and cantaloupe are all useful for a fruit plate or a quick snack between work calls.
Small limes are especially helpful because they are easy to squeeze over eggs, avocado, or fruit. If a vendor offers you a taste of a mango or another seasonal fruit, accept it. Asking questions is part of the market experience, and vendors are usually happy to explain what is freshest.
The tortillería is one of my favorite stops. Fresh corn tortillas make the breakfast feel completely different from one prepared with packaged bread.
You can also look for bolillos at a nearby bakery. They are crusty, practical rolls for breakfast sandwiches or toast.
Use Mini Super Amapas for Small Top-Ups
You do not have to carry every ingredient uphill from the market.
Mini Super Amapas, near the corner of Amapas and Pilitas, is useful when you need one or two extra items. I use it for coffee, milk, bread, snacks, drinks, or ready-made foods such as salsa, guacamole, beans, or rice.
This is especially helpful for digital nomads. If a meeting runs late or you need to get back to your laptop, a quick neighborhood stop can save a longer walk.
I like combining the two shopping trips. The market provides the fresh ingredients, while the small shop fills the gaps.
The Easy Breakfast Menu
Once we return to the condo, I keep the cooking relaxed.
First, I chop the onion, tomato, cilantro, and chorizo. My partner warms the tortillas in a dry pan while I cook the chorizo over medium heat.
After the chorizo is cooked, I add the onion and tomato. Then I pour in the beaten eggs and stir gently until they are just set.
We serve the eggs with warm tortillas, queso fresco, sliced avocado, lime, and salsa.
That is the main plate, but the best part is how easy it is to adjust. If you prefer a lighter breakfast, leave out the chorizo and add extra tomato and avocado. If you need something more filling before a workday, add beans or make small breakfast tacos.

For a second option, I make a fresh fruit plate with papaya, mango, banana, and lime. It takes only a few minutes and gives us something cool to eat later while working.
Another easy idea is a breakfast torta. Slice a bolillo, spread on beans or guacamole, and add egg, cheese, tomato, and cilantro. It travels well if one of you needs to leave for an appointment.
Make the Condo Kitchen Work for You
Before shopping, I check the kitchen for a few basics.
You need a sharp knife, a cutting board, a frying pan, a spatula, plates, glasses, and a way to store leftovers. A refrigerator with enough space also matters when you are buying fresh fruit and dairy.
Some condos include filtered drinking water, but I still confirm how the system works when I arrive. It is one of those small details that makes cooking and staying hydrated much easier.
A modern open kitchen also helps if one person is working. One of us can prepare coffee or breakfast while the other answers messages at the table. We do not need a large space, but a practical counter, reliable Wi-Fi, and comfortable seating make a real difference.
The bright kitchen at Hummingbird is a good example of the kind of setup I like for a couple. Vizcarra 1 also suits travelers who want a compact kitchen and a central location for market trips.

Plan Around Your Workday
If you are a digital nomad, do not make the market trip so ambitious that it takes over your morning.
I usually allow time for the walk downhill, shopping, and the return trip. Walking down from Amapas is pleasant, but carrying full bags back uphill can be tiring.
We often walk down and take a taxi back with the groceries. That gives us more energy for cooking, cleaning up, and starting work.
I also recommend preparing a few ingredients at once. Wash the fruit, chop the onion, and store extra cilantro as soon as you return. Then tomorrow’s breakfast takes only a few minutes.
Keep the kitchen clean as you go, especially in the tropical heat. Refrigerate eggs, cheese, cut fruit, and leftovers promptly. Wash fresh produce carefully before serving it.
If you have a morning meeting, make the fruit plate and coffee first. Save the hot egg breakfast for a slower day when you can enjoy it together.

Why This Breakfast Is Worth Doing
A market breakfast gives us more than a meal.
We learn what is in season, practice a little Spanish, support local vendors, and enjoy the condo as a real home instead of using it only as a place to sleep.
It also creates an easy rhythm for couples. One person shops for fruit while the other chooses tortillas. One cooks the eggs while the other sets the table. There is no pressure to make everything perfect.
The colors, textures, and flavors make an ordinary workday feel special. Fresh tortillas, warm eggs, bright salsa, and tropical fruit are enough to make me think, “This is exactly why we came to Puerto Vallarta.”
Amapas is highly recommended for couples and digital nomads who want a peaceful condo setting, easy access to local food, and the freedom to enjoy breakfast at their own pace.
