I have spent plenty of time working and relaxing in Puerto Vallarta, and I know how difficult it can be to plan a trip when two people keep different schedules.
One person may start work early, while the other needs quiet time later in the day. One may have video calls, while the other wants to explore, read, or enjoy a slow breakfast.
That is exactly why I think Amapas is the best place to rent in Puerto Vallarta for a workcation. You get a peaceful hillside setting, modern condo spaces, and easy access to Old Town and Zona Romántica when your schedules finally line up.

Start by comparing your real work schedules
Before booking anything, we always write down our actual work hours.
Do not rely only on time-zone labels such as Eastern, Central, or Pacific. Write down the local hours you will be online in Puerto Vallarta. This makes the overlap much easier to see.
For example, one person might work from 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., while the other works from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. That gives you several shared hours, but it also means the condo needs to support quiet work for most of the day.
If one of you works with Europe-based clients and the other follows North American hours, the difference may be even more noticeable. You could have one person finishing a call while the other is just starting the day.
The goal is not to make every hour a shared vacation hour. The goal is to create a setup where both people can work comfortably and still have meaningful time together.
Choose a condo that supports separate routines
A studio can work for a short stay, but two different schedules require some planning.
Look for a condo with at least two usable areas. One person can work at a desk or dining table while the other relaxes in the living area. Even a small amount of separation helps when one person is on a call.
A dedicated desk is useful, but a comfortable dining table can also work well. Before booking, check the photos carefully for:
- A proper chair rather than only a decorative seat
- A stable table or desk
- Several power outlets
- Strong air conditioning
- Good natural light
- Space to store work equipment
- A quiet bedroom with a door
- Reliable Wi-Fi and, ideally, an Ethernet option
Casa Hummingbird is a good example of the type of setup I look for. It has a dedicated desk, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a king bed, and a kitchen for easy meals between calls.

Make Amapas your shared home base
Amapas gives couples and digital nomads a useful balance.
The hillside setting feels calmer than the busiest parts of Old Town, but you are still close to cafés, restaurants, the beach, and coworking spaces. You can walk downhill when you have free time or use a taxi when you do not want to deal with the incline.
The hills are beautiful, but they are real. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and checking the exact walking route before planning a daily coworking routine.
If one person has a morning meeting and the other wants to visit a café, the location gives you flexibility. You do not have to spend the whole day in the same room, and you do not need a long trip to find something to do.
But best of all, returning to Amapas gives you a quieter place to finish work or reset between commitments.
Build two daily routines instead of one
Trying to follow the same schedule can create unnecessary stress.
Instead, we like to create two routines that connect at certain points.
For the early worker
If one of you starts early, prepare everything the night before. Charge the laptop, fill a water bottle, organize headphones, and place coffee supplies where they are easy to reach.
Use the workspace closest to the quietest part of the condo. Keep calls short and voices low if your partner is still sleeping.
A small breakfast in the kitchen can save time. Fruit, yogurt, toast, coffee, or a sandwich gives you something simple without requiring a full outing before work.
Once the early shift ends, that person can take a walk, visit a café, or spend time near the beach while the other continues working.
For the later worker
The person who starts later can use the morning for personal time, exercise, errands, or a relaxed meal.
Amapas works well for this because Old Town and Zona Romántica are close enough for a short outing. You can pick up coffee, walk through the neighborhood, or return to the condo before the workday begins.
When the second shift starts, use headphones for calls and agree on signals that show when the other person should not be interrupted.
It sounds simple, but these small agreements make a major difference.
Protect your shared quiet hours
Couples often think the best part of a workcation is having unlimited time together.
In reality, the best moments usually happen when you plan them.
Choose one or two shared blocks in the day. It could be breakfast, a late lunch, a short walk, or an evening meal after both workdays finish.
Keep those blocks realistic. If one person works until 7:00 p.m., do not plan a complicated excursion immediately afterward. A simple meal near the condo may be much more enjoyable.
You can also use one shared rule: when both people are working, work comes first. When the agreed shared block begins, close the laptops and be present.
That separation helps the trip feel like a vacation instead of two remote jobs happening in the same room.

Plan meals around the busiest hours
A kitchen is one of the most useful features for a workcation.
When schedules do not match, you do not have to wait for each other before eating. One person can prepare coffee and breakfast early, while the other makes lunch later.
Keep easy ingredients available so nobody has to stop working just to find food. Bread, fruit, eggs, yogurt, prepared salads, snacks, and cold drinks are enough for several simple meals.
Casa Vizcarra 1 has a stocked kitchen, filtered drinking water, air conditioning, and high-speed Wi-Fi with an Ethernet port. Those details matter when one person is working and the other needs a comfortable place to prepare a meal or take a break.
I also recommend buying groceries soon after arrival. That removes one decision from the busiest part of the day and makes the condo feel more settled.
Use coworking spaces strategically
Coworking spaces and cafés can be helpful, but they should not be your only work plan.
For important calls, I prefer working from the condo after confirming the Wi-Fi and testing the room for noise. A café may feel inspiring, but nearby conversations, music, or busy service can become distracting.
Use a coworking space for focused solo work, a change of scenery, or casual tasks. Keep the condo as your reliable backup.
Before the trip, ask for a recent internet speed test. If video calls are important, confirm whether the connection is fiber and whether an Ethernet port is available.
A local SIM card with mobile data is also worth having. It gives you a backup hotspot if the Wi-Fi has a temporary issue.
Plan for heat, hills, and recovery time
Puerto Vallarta’s warm climate affects concentration, especially during long work sessions.
Keep water beside your laptop and use the air conditioning before the room becomes uncomfortable. Close blinds or curtains if direct light makes the workspace too warm, while still keeping enough daylight for a pleasant room.
Do not schedule demanding work immediately after a steep walk. Give yourself time to cool down, shower, and reset.
A ten-minute break can be enough. Stretch, step outside, refill your water, or walk to a nearby café. The point is to return to work with a clear head rather than waiting until you are completely exhausted.
Give yourselves one flexible day
Even with careful planning, work schedules change.
A client may move a meeting. A project may take longer. The internet may need attention. Build one flexible day into your trip so you are not trying to fit every activity into a strict plan.
That day can be used for a slow neighborhood walk, a meal in Old Town, or simply time together in the condo.
The more flexible your itinerary, the easier it is to enjoy Puerto Vallarta without feeling that work is taking over the entire trip.
My final recommendation
I have found that Amapas works especially well when two travelers need different levels of quiet, different work hours, and different amounts of time outside the condo.
Choose a rental with reliable Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a practical workspace, a kitchen, and enough separation for two routines. Confirm the hills are comfortable for you, keep a mobile-data backup, and decide in advance when your shared time begins.
Amapas gives you peace when you need to focus and quick access to the energy of Old Town when you are ready to relax. For couples and digital nomads planning a workcation around different schedules, it is highly recommended.
