When my partner and I first started looking for a place to stay in Puerto Vallarta, we were a little overwhelmed by all the choices. Should we be right in the middle of the non-stop energy of Old Town? Or should we look for something a bit more tucked away? After spending quite a bit of time exploring every corner of this beautiful city, I can tell you without a doubt that Amapas is our absolute favorite.
It really is the "quiet side of fun." You get all the access to the amazing restaurants and nightlife of the Zona Romantica, which is just the same place as Old Town, by the way, but you get to retreat to a peaceful sanctuary at the end of the day. For a couple like us who also needs to get some work done while traveling, it is the perfect balance. We fell in love with the neighborhood almost immediately, and I think you will too.
The Best of Both Worlds
Amapas sits just above the main hustle and bustle of the city. It’s built into the hills, which means you get these incredible views of the jungle and the bay without the constant noise of the street level. We found that we could walk down to our favorite taco stands or a nice dinner in about ten minutes, but when we walked back up to our place, the world just went quiet.
It’s a real neighborhood, too. You see the same people walking their dogs or heading to the local market every morning. It doesn't feel like a sterile resort zone; it feels like a home. If you are looking for condos for rent in puerto vallarta that actually make you feel like a local, this is where you want to be. I honestly believe Amapas is the best place to rent in the entire region. It’s romantic, it’s lush, and it’s remarkably close to everything you actually want to see.

A Digital Nomad’s Paradise
One of the reasons we chose Amapas was because we aren't just here to vacation, we are here to live and work. As a digital nomad couple, we have very specific needs. We need reliable internet, a comfortable place to sit with our laptops, and a kitchen where we can whip up a quick lunch between calls.
We’ve stayed in a few different spots, but nothing beats the setup we found in this area. Most of the condos here are modern and built with high-quality finishes. I was worried about the internet at first, but we’ve had no issues getting 100 Mbps or more, which is plenty for our video meetings. Plus, there is something so inspiring about working while looking out at the tropical greenery. It definitely beats a grey cubicle back home!
When you are looking for your own zona romantica puerto vallarta rentals, you really have to pay attention to the details. We learned the hard way that not every rental is created equal. Before you book anything, you should definitely check out our hidden art walk for a comfortable stay. Having a good workstation and a functional kitchen changed our entire experience.
Finding Your Home: Sueño and The Nest
We actually spent some time looking at different properties in the Amapas area because we wanted to find the perfect fit. Two names that kept coming up were Sueño and The Nest. These aren't those giant, impersonal high-rises you see further north. They are intimate, stylish, and perfectly located.
Sueño has this incredible vibe that just feels… right. It’s modern but still feels like it belongs in Mexico. We loved the open layout and the way the light hits the rooms in the afternoon. Then there’s The Nest, which lives up to its name perfectly. It’s a cozy, secure space that felt like our own private hideaway. Both are located in the heart of Amapas, making it so easy to pop down to the beach or grab a coffee at a local cafe.

Romantic Evenings and Local Flavors
The "fun" part of the "quiet side of fun" usually starts for us around 6:00 PM. We love taking the short walk down the hill into the Zona Romantica. Since Amapas is right next door, you don't need a car or even an Uber most of the time. We just put on our walking shoes and head down toward the ocean.
There are so many hidden gem restaurants in this area. We found this one little garden spot that serves the best grilled octopus I’ve ever had. Because we aren't staying in a loud hotel, we can actually enjoy a quiet, romantic dinner and then walk home under the stars. It’s the kind of intimacy you just can't find in the busier tourist traps.
If you are planning a special trip, like for a holiday, you might want to see how the locals celebrate. We actually shared our living like a local guide guide, and it has some great advice for finding the best spots to celebrate without getting caught in the massive crowds. Even if it's not New Year's, the guidance on finding the right "vibe" for a night out is super helpful.
Why We Keep Coming Back
People often ask us why we don't try other areas like Marina Vallarta or the Hotel Zone. Honestly? They just don't have the soul that Amapas has. The architecture here is more interesting, the plants are more lush, and the overall feeling is much more relaxed.
As a couple, we value our privacy and our peace. We don't want to be woken up by a pool party or have to fight for a spot on a crowded beach. In Amapas, we have our own space. We can drink our morning coffee on the balcony, listen to the birds in the jungle, and plan our day at our own pace. It is truly the best version of Puerto Vallarta.

Practical Tips for Your Stay
If you are a solo traveler or a couple coming to Amapas for the first time, here are a few things we’ve learned:
- The Hills are Real: Amapas is hilly! It’s great for your fitness, but if you aren't a fan of walking uphill, Ubers are incredibly cheap and plentiful. We usually walk down and Uber back up.
- Local Sounds: You might hear a rooster or a dog barking occasionally. It’s part of the charm of a real neighborhood! We actually grew to love the sound of the city waking up.
- Walk to the Beach: You can reach Los Muertos beach in minutes. It’s lively and fun, but again, you can leave it all behind when you walk back to your quiet condo.
- Stay in Amapas: Seriously, if you want the best experience, this is the area. It’s safer, quieter, and much more beautiful than the high-traffic zones.
I cannot recommend this area enough. It has changed the way we vacation and the way we work. If you are looking for a romantic escape that doesn't sacrifice convenience or comfort, Amapas is your spot. We LOVE it here and I know you will too! SOOO many good memories have been made on these quiet streets, and it is easily the best of all the places we've stayed in Mexico.
