I’ve stayed in both hotels and condos in Puerto Vallarta, and I keep coming back to condos for one simple reason: it feels easier.
Hotels can be fun, but condo life just fits a vacation better—especially if you want to slow down and actually enjoy your days.
If you’re comparing options right now, here’s my casual, real-world breakdown.
1) Space: more room to actually relax
A hotel room works when you’re basically just sleeping and showering.
But if you’re spending any real time “at home” between beach trips, a bigger place changes everything.
In a condo, we spread out.
Someone can nap, someone can shower, someone can sit on the balcony and scroll, and nobody feels like they’re living on top of each other.
If you’re traveling with friends, kids, or even just a partner who likes quiet time, that extra space is a game-changer.
If you want to start browsing places like that, I usually point people to puerto vallarta vacation condos first.
2) Kitchen: local food, snacks, and coffee in pajamas
This is my favorite part.
A kitchen doesn’t mean you “have to cook the whole trip.”
It just means you can.
We grab fresh fruit, chips, salsa, and whatever looks good at the market.
Then we do easy breakfasts, late-night snacks, and coffee exactly how we like it—no waiting, no rushing, no “is the café open yet?”
Best of all, you can sip your coffee in pajamas and nobody cares.
If you’re a solo traveler, this is also nice because you’re not forced into restaurant meals for every single thing.
3) Feeling at home: you start to feel like a local
Hotels keep you in “tourist mode.”
You walk into a lobby, you get the wristband (sometimes), you ride the elevator with a crowd, and you’re always kind of… passing through.
In a condo, you start to learn your neighborhood.
You find the closest little store for water.
You pick a favorite breakfast spot.
You recognize the same faces on the sidewalk.
Old Town (Zona Romantica) is great for that walkable vibe, and Amapas is even better.
Amapas is my go-to because it feels calm, close to everything, and just more “home” than hectic.
If you want more ideas on how condos fit into a trip, I wrote this too: vacation rentals and my simple planning post, the 2026 guide.
4) Privacy: skip the crowds, lines, and noise
This one surprises people until they experience it.
Hotels are built around shared spaces.
That means busy lobbies, elevator waits, pool chair drama, and hallway noise when other guests roll in late.
In a condo, it’s just… quieter.
You come and go without feeling like you’re in someone else’s vacation traffic.
And when you want a low-key night in, it actually feels relaxing instead of like you’re hiding out in a tiny room.
If you’re looking for more options similar to what I book for my own trips, check out condos for rent in puerto vallarta.
My honest recommendation
If you want more space, an easy kitchen setup, that “local” feeling, and more privacy, condos are the better pick.
And if you’re choosing neighborhoods, I highly recommended staying in Amapas.
It’s the sweet spot.
