I have spent plenty of time working, meeting friends, and taking coffee breaks around Amapas and the nearby streets of Old Town. If you are visiting Puerto Vallarta as a couple and still need to answer emails, join meetings, or finish a few hours of work, this is one of my favorite areas to use as a base.
Amapas gives you a quieter hillside setting while keeping you close to the cafés, restaurants, and services in Old Town. Old Town and Zona Romantica are the same area, so you may see both names used when looking for a café.
The best approach is simple: work during the cooler part of the day, choose cafés with reliable Wi-Fi and comfortable seating, and leave enough time to enjoy the neighborhood together.
1. El Sofá Café for a Calm Morning Session
El Sofá Café is just below Amapas in Zona Romantica, making it an easy first stop if you are staying on the hillside.
The space has a relaxed, sofa-style feel with enough table space for a laptop and a coffee. I like it for a couple because it does not feel overly formal. You can sit together, share a pastry, and each work on your own tasks without feeling as if you are in a business center.
The café is known for reliable Wi-Fi and a comfortable setup for light remote work. It is best for a focused morning or early-afternoon session rather than a full day because current information indicates that it closes around 4:00 p.m.
Bring your charger, but still check where the closest outlet is before settling in. If you need to take a video call, headphones are a good idea.
Best for: A quiet start to the workday, emails, writing, and a relaxed coffee date.
2. The Coffee Cup for Flexible Hours
The Coffee Cup on Rodolfo Gómez 146 is a practical option near the lower Amapas and Los Muertos area. It is especially useful if one person wants to work while the other prefers to read, plan the day, or simply enjoy a slow coffee.
The café is listed with free Wi-Fi and daily hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. That makes it one of the more flexible choices when your work schedule does not fit a short morning window.
I would choose The Coffee Cup when we have several small tasks to complete rather than one long, demanding project. The setting is casual, the location is convenient, and you can easily move on to lunch or a walk when you close the laptop.
For couples, try to arrive before the busiest part of the morning if you want to sit together. A two-person table works well, but larger tables should be left open for guests who need more space.
Best for: Early work sessions, checking messages, and combining coffee with plans around the beach and Old Town.
3. Bean & Brick for Coffee and Breakfast
Bean & Brick, on Lázaro Cárdenas 381A, is a strong choice when food matters as much as coffee.
The café is known for artisanal pastries and hearty breakfast dishes, so it works well when one of you wants a proper meal while the other gets through a few work tasks. I find that this kind of café is ideal for a short work block of one to three hours.
The interior has a neat, welcoming feel, and available information describes free Wi-Fi. Still, I would treat it as a café first and a workspace second. Avoid planning an entire day of calls there, especially if the tables begin filling up.
A breakfast with Mexican coffee can make the morning feel much more like a vacation. We usually find that even a short work session feels easier when we are sharing good food instead of sitting separately in a condo.
Best for: Breakfast meetings, pastries, planning the day, and a couple’s coffee stop with a little laptop time.
4. Outpost / Playroom PV for Heavier Work
If both of you need to work seriously, Outpost / Playroom PV is worth considering. It has a stronger workspace identity than a traditional café and is described as having high-speed fiber-optic internet.
That makes it a better fit for video calls, uploads, presentations, and projects that need more dependable connectivity. The environment is also designed around people who work remotely, so you are less likely to feel awkward opening a laptop.
The trade-off is that it may not feel as romantic or spontaneous as a small coffee shop. I would use it on a day when work is the priority, then plan a separate coffee or meal together afterward.
Check the latest access information before going because coworking spaces can have different arrangements for day visitors, members, and café guests. It is also smart to confirm whether the seating you want is available during your visit.
Best for: Video meetings, focused work, reliable internet, and a more structured workday.
5. Mi Café for a Comfortable Meal
Mi Café is a short walk from lower Amapas in Emiliano Zapata. It has a pleasant, home-like atmosphere and a menu that makes it easier to stay for a real meal instead of ordering only a drink.
The café is often recommended for good coffee, solid internet, and a comfortable place to work. Its food is one of the main reasons I would choose it for a couple. You can order breakfast, settle in for a while, and avoid having to move immediately when one person finishes working.
I especially like this type of café for travel days when your schedule is uneven. One person can answer messages while the other enjoys breakfast, and then you can switch roles or make plans for the afternoon.
As always, confirm current hours when you arrive. Puerto Vallarta cafés sometimes adjust schedules during the year, and Wi-Fi quality can vary depending on how busy the space is.
Best for: A relaxed breakfast, longer coffee breaks, and couples with different work schedules.
Practical Tips for Working from Amapas Cafés
Carry a backup connection
Even when a café advertises Wi-Fi, I prefer having mobile data available. A phone hotspot can save you if the network slows down during a call or if you need to send an important file.
Choose calls carefully
Cafés are social spaces, not private offices. Use headphones, keep your voice low, and avoid long meetings when the café is crowded. If you have several calls, a condo workspace or dedicated coworking space may be more comfortable.
Bring a compact setup
A lightweight laptop, charger, small power bank, and headphones are usually enough. A compact adapter can also be useful, especially if you carry more than one device.
Order regularly
If you plan to stay for a while, order another coffee or a meal when appropriate. It is a simple way to support local businesses and respect the space you are using.
Work downhill, return uphill
Amapas is built on a hillside, so walking back to your condo can involve stairs. I prefer to finish café work before the hottest part of the day and keep the walk home comfortable.
This is another reason I think Amapas is the best place to rent. You stay close to the café life of Old Town while having a quieter place to concentrate, cook, rest, and spend time together.
Where to Stay for a Café-Focused Visit
When we plan a trip around work and relaxation, we look for a condo with a proper table, dependable Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a kitchen. A comfortable home base makes it easier to use cafés for a change of scenery instead of depending on them for every work need.
Sueño, The Nest, Hummingbird, and Vizcarra 1 each offer different layouts and locations. For a couple who wants the Amapas hillside atmosphere, the area gives you a good balance: cafés and restaurants are close, but your rental does not have to feel like it is in the middle of the busiest streets.
The key is to check the walking route and the workspace before booking. If you expect frequent calls, prioritize a quiet interior table. If you only need an hour of email each day, location and comfort may matter more than a dedicated desk.
Amapas works especially well because you can create your own rhythm. Start with Mexican coffee, work for a couple of hours, enjoy breakfast or lunch, and return to your condo when you are ready for a break.
For couples and remote workers, I highly recommend staying in Amapas and using these cafés as flexible parts of your day. The mix of good food, local design, friendly service, and practical work options makes this one of the best areas in Puerto Vallarta for a productive yet enjoyable vacation.
