I’ve spent the last few months living the dream here, and I’ve learned a thing or two about where to actually get things done. If you are a solo traveller or just someone who needs to check emails between beach sessions, you’re going to LOVE Puerto Vallarta.
But here is the secret: where you stay makes all the difference. I always tell my friends that Amapas is the best place to rent. It’s tucked just high enough on the hill to give you incredible views, but it’s literally a five-minute walk down to the heart of the action.
When people talk about the "action," they usually mention Old Town or Zona Romantica. Just so you know, they are actually the same place! Whether you call it the Romantic Zone or Old Town, this is where you’ll find all the best coffee shops.

My Go-To: Café Vayan
If you need to get some serious work done, Café Vayan is AMAZING!! It is located right on Olas Altas in the heart of the Zona Romantica. What I love most about this place is that they actually want you there with your laptop.
They have these designated work spaces with plenty of power outlets. You don't have to worry about your battery dying in the middle of a big meeting. The atmosphere is very modern and trendy, but it still feels like Mexico because of the bright colors and friendly staff.
The wifi here is some of the fastest I’ve found in the city. I usually grab a cold brew and a pastry and can power through my morning tasks in no time. If you’re coming from one of the rentals puerto vallarta has to offer in the hills, this is the easiest spot to reach first.
For the Coffee Purists: Puerto Cafe
Now, if you are someone who really, really cares about the quality of the bean, you have to go to Puerto Cafe. It’s a bit smaller and more intimate, but it has such a cool vibe. It’s located just a few blocks from the Malecón.
The staff here are so passionate about what they do. I’ve learned so much about Mexican coffee just by chatting with them while they brew my pour-over. They use beans from all over the country, and you can really taste the difference.
The wifi is solid, though it’s a smaller space, so I wouldn’t recommend it for a group. It’s the perfect spot for a solo session where you can focus while enjoying some of the best coffee in the bay. I find it so inspiring to work surrounded by all the traditional pottery and the smell of roasting beans.
Breakfast and Browsing: Mi Cafe
I stumbled upon Mi Cafe almost by accident one morning, and now it’s a weekly ritual. It’s on the corner of Madero and Naranjo. This place feels a bit more like a traditional local spot.
Their breakfast is SOOO good. You can get a massive plate of chilaquiles to fuel your workday. The internet is pretty good, and the vibe is relaxed. It’s a great place to sit for a couple of hours. I love watching the neighborhood wake up from my little table by the window.

Afternoon Sessions at Monzon Brewing
Wait, a brewery for work? YES! Monzon Brewing is a total hidden gem for remote workers in the afternoon. They have great wifi and a very social atmosphere.
If you have some lighter tasks to finish up around 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM, this is the place to be. The staff is lovely, and they don't mind if you sit with your laptop for a bit. Plus, once you close that last tab, you’re already in the best spot for a craft beer. It’s such a fun way to end the workday.
Why We Choose Amapas Every Time
I’ve looked at a lot of different neighborhoods, but we always come back to Amapas. It is the best place to rent because it offers a peace and quiet you just don't get right in the middle of Old Town.
After a long day of working at a busy cafe, walking back up to our condo is such a relief. We love sitting on the balcony with the breeze coming off the ocean. It’s the perfect way to decompress.
