I have spent so much time exploring the beautiful streets of Puerto Vallarta, and every single time I walk into a fresh condo, I am just blown away by the energy! There is something so special about the way a simple room can come to life with just a few pops of color. We really LOVE how the local culture is woven into everything here, literally!
If you are like us, you want your vacation space to feel warm, welcoming, and totally unique. You don't want a cookie-cutter hotel room that looks like it could be anywhere in the world. You want to feel the soul of Mexico the moment you step inside.
One of the easiest and most AMAZING ways to do this is by using local textiles. Mexican fabrics are famous for a reason. They are bold, they are bright, and they tell a story of generations of craftsmanship. Whether you are staying for a week or a month, styling your space with these textures makes such a huge difference.
Why We Always Choose Amapas
Before we dive into the styling tips, I have to tell you about our favorite spot. If you are looking for the absolute best place to stay, you have to check out Amapas! It is tucked away just enough to feel private and quiet, but it is still so close to everything.
We find that the condos in Amapas often have that perfect modern aesthetic that works so well with traditional decor. It is just the best of all worlds! If you want to see what I mean, you should check out the Puerto Vallarta condos for rent by owner options we have available right now.
Amapas gives you those incredible views and a slightly more peaceful vibe than the heart of the city, but you can still walk down into Old Town whenever you want. Speaking of which, Old Town and Zona Romantica are actually the same wonderful neighborhood, so don't get confused when people use both names! It is the perfect place to go on a textile hunt.
The Power of the Perfect Pillow

The first thing we always do to spruce up a living area is look at the pillows. Most modern condos come with very nice, neutral furniture. This is the perfect blank canvas!
I am obsessed with Otomi embroidery. If you haven't seen it yet, you are in for a treat! These textiles come from the Tenango de Doria region and feature whimsical animals and flowers in every color of the rainbow.
Tossing a few of these pillows onto a gray or white sofa completely transforms the room. It feels instantly more cheerful! We also love mixing them with Zapotec wool pillows from Oaxaca. These usually have more geometric patterns and earthy tones, which adds a really nice depth to the styling.
It is soooo easy to do, and you can find these all over the local markets. Just a few pillows can make your rental feel like a designer home.
Cozy Up with Traditional Bedding

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, and in Puerto Vallarta, that means it should feel breezy and bright. We always recommend sticking with high-quality white linens for that fresh feel, but then you add the magic.
A "rebozo" or a "sarape" draped across the foot of the bed is such a classic move. A rebozo is actually a long garment like a shawl, but they make for the most beautiful bed runners! They are often hand-woven with intricate fringe at the ends.
We love using a bright turquoise or a deep sunset orange to match the PV vibes. It adds that layer of texture that makes the bed look so much more inviting. Plus, it is perfect for those slightly cooler nights when you want just a thin extra layer while the AC is hummin’.

Setting a Table with Local Soul

One of my favorite things about vacationing in a condo is being able to cook or enjoy a nice takeout meal at home. But why eat at a boring table?
We always look for hand-embroidered table runners. The floral patterns you find here are just STUNNING. They bring so much life to a wooden dining table.
Even if you aren't doing a full dinner party, having a runner and a few local ceramic bowls on the table makes the whole condo feel "finished." It is those little details that make you smile every time you walk past.
If you are looking for a place that already has a great dining setup, we highly recommend checking out some of the condo rentals in puerto vallarta mexico that we manage. They are all styled with that modern-meets-traditional balance that we LOVE.
Wall Art and Rugs: The Final Touch

Don't forget about the walls! While you might not want to hang anything permanent in a rental, many of the best condos in Amapas and Old Town already feature incredible local art.
If you find a space with a large Oaxacan rug, you have hit the jackpot. These rugs are often made from sheep’s wool and dyed with natural ingredients like cochineal (which makes a beautiful red) or indigo.
Sometimes these rugs are actually too pretty for the floor, so people hang them as tapestries! It is a great way to fill a large white wall and add a sense of warmth to the room. The texture of the wool against a clean, modern wall is just perfection.
We’ve found that the best condos are the ones that respect these traditions while keeping things comfortable and functional.
Where to Shop in Old Town
When you are ready to start styling your own space (or just buying gifts to take home!), head straight to Old Town. Since Old Town and Zona Romantica are the same place, you can just wander the cobblestone streets and you will find so many boutiques.
Basilio Badillo is a great street to start on. There are several high-end galleries there that have the most beautiful textiles you have ever seen. But don't be afraid to check out the flea markets near the Cuale River too! You can find some amazing treasures there if you have a good eye.
We always suggest looking for items that feel heavy and well-made. You can really feel the difference between a mass-produced piece and something that was made by hand.
Final Thoughts on Styling
Styling your condo with local textiles isn't just about making things look pretty. It is about connecting with the culture of Puerto Vallarta. It is about supporting local artisans who have been doing this for hundreds of years.
But best of all, it makes your vacation feel like a true experience. Every time I see a bright Otomi pillow or a soft rebozo, I am reminded of why I LOVE this city so much.
