I have spent the last six months hopping between different "digital nomad hubs" around the globe, but nothing quite prepared me for the magic of Puerto Vallarta.
While most people flock straight to the heart of Old Town (which is the same place as Zona Romantica, by the way!), I found my soul in the hills of Amapas.
If you are a solo traveller or a remote worker looking for that sweet spot between productivity and paradise, let me tell you why Amapas is the place to be.
The Jungle-Vibe Workspace
The first thing I noticed when we moved into our condo was the sound.
Instead of honking taxis and the morning rush of the Malecon, I was greeted by the rustle of palm fronds and the chirping of tropical birds.
Amapas sits right on the edge of the Sierra Madre foothills, which means you get these incredible jungle vibes while still being a ten-minute walk from the beach.
Our workspace was positioned right in front of a massive window looking out into the dense greenery, making those long Zoom calls feel like a nature retreat.

Fiber Optic is the Real Hero
We have all been there: trying to upload a massive file while the WiFi signal slowly dies in a humid hotel room.
But best of all, the newer buildings in Amapas are actually built with us in mind.
Most of the units we looked at, including Casa CC and The Nest, come equipped with high-speed fiber optic internet.
I was getting speeds that rivaled my setup back home, which is a total game-changer when you are a puerto vallarta digital nomad trying to stay on top of a heavy workload.
I never had a single drop-out during my entire stay, even during the occasional afternoon tropical rainstorm.
Why Amapas Beats the Rest
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Old Town for its tacos and energy.
But when you need to actually get things done, the noise can be a bit much.
Amapas is nestled just south of the main action, giving you a peaceful sanctuary that still feels connected to the culture.
In my opinion, it is easily the best place to rent because you get the elevated views of the bay without the constant street noise of the lower levels.

Living the High Life (Literally)
One thing to keep in mind is that "hillside living" means exactly that: hills!
The walk down to Playa Los Muertos is a breeze, but the walk back up is basically a free stair-master workout.
I actually started to look forward to it as my daily exercise, but Ubers are so cheap and plentiful that you never really feel stuck.
The reward for that elevation is the view; sitting on the balcony with a coffee and watching the sunset over Banderas Bay is simply UNREAL.
We stayed in a spot with huge glass doors that we just left open all day to let the ocean breeze do the work of the AC.
Modern Comforts in a Traditional Setting
I really appreciated how the condos in this area blend modern tech with local soul.
Our place featured beautiful hand-painted tiles and traditional Mexican art, but it also had the smart features I need to live comfortably.
It is a far cry from the generic, sterile hotel rooms you find in the hotel zone.

My Final Verdict
If you are planning a workcation or a long-term remote stint, I cannot recommend Amapas enough.
It offers the privacy and silence you need to focus, with the vibrant Mexican culture right at your doorstep.
The combination of jungle scenery, high-speed connectivity, and those iconic bay views makes it the ultimate base for any modern nomad.

I am so grateful for the peace and productivity I found here, and I honestly didn't want to leave.
