I still remember the first morning I woke up in Puerto Vallarta with my laptop in hand.
The sun was just starting to peek over the Sierra Madre mountains, and the air was filled with the smell of fresh salt water and blooming bougainvillea.
I’ve traveled to a lot of places as a remote worker, but nothing quite compares to the energy here.
If you are a solo traveller or part of a nomadic couple, you probably already know that finding the right home base is the biggest hurdle.
You need more than just a bed; you need a vibe, a community, and, most importantly, rock-solid internet.
In this guide, I want to share exactly what it’s like to live and work in this tropical paradise.
I’ll walk you through the best neighborhoods and the specific spots that made my stay so special.
Why Amapas is My Absolute Favorite
When people talk about Puerto Vallarta, they usually mention Old Town and Zona Romantica.
Just so you know, they are actually the same place, but names get tossed around depending on who you talk to!
But if you want my honest opinion, the Amapas neighborhood is where you really want to be.
It is tucked right next to the main hub, but it feels like a private sanctuary on the hill.
I LOVE the way the jungle meets the ocean in this part of town.
It is quiet enough to get through a four-hour Zoom marathon without distraction, yet close enough to walk to dinner in five minutes.
The views from the condos here are just SOOO incredible.
I’ve spent many afternoons just staring at the bay while waiting for files to upload.
If you want to know more about why I think this area is a total game-changer, check out this post on why Amapas is the best place to rent for your next trip.

Finding the Right Workspace
For any puerto vallarta digital nomad, the biggest fear is the "spinning wheel of death" during an important meeting.
I’ve stayed in places where the "high-speed wifi" was actually just a prayer and a weak signal from the hallway.
That is why I have to give a huge shout-out to the Sueño condo.
We stayed there for a month, and the connection was AMAZING!!
It was fast, reliable, and I never had a single drop-out.
The condo itself is bright and airy, which really helps with productivity when the sun is shining outside.
Having a dedicated space to work that doesn't feel like a cubicle makes a massive difference in your mental health.
I felt so much more creative looking at the ocean than I ever did back home in a dark office.
Living the Old Town Dream
Living in Old Town (or Zona Romantica) means you are in the heart of the action.
The streets are filled with color, music, and the most delicious smells of street tacos.
I spent most of my lunch breaks walking down the cobblestone streets just to see what was happening.
The community here is so welcoming to remote workers.
You’ll see plenty of people with laptops in the local cafes, and it’s very easy to make friends.
We met another couple from Canada on our second day just by asking for a recommendation on the best salsa in town.
That kind of instant connection is what makes PV so special for nomads.
It never feels lonely here because there is always a friendly face around the corner.

Essential Amenities You Can't Ignore
When you are looking for a rental, there are a few things that are non-negotiable.
First, you need air conditioning that actually works.
The humidity in Puerto Vallarta is no joke, especially in the afternoons.
I also prioritize having a balcony because there is nothing better than taking a "desk break" to watch the waves.
Safety is another big one, and I always felt completely secure in the Amapas and Old Town areas.
If you’re unsure what else to look for, I wrote a guide on the must-have features for your Puerto Vallarta rental that might help you narrow it down.
Having a kitchen is also a lifesaver.
While the restaurants are great, sometimes you just want to scramble some eggs and get back to work.
The local markets are full of fresh fruit and veggies that are much better than anything you find at a standard grocery store.

The Cafe and Coffee Scene
If you get bored of working from your condo, the cafe scene here is top-notch.
My favorite spot for a long work session is El Sofa Cafe in the heart of the neighborhood.
The name says it all: it is super comfy and the coffee is strong.
Another great option is The Green Place if you want some healthy vegan food while you crush your to-do list.
The wifi at these spots is usually quite good, but I always recommend having a backup just in case.
Getting a local Telcel SIM card is very easy and gives you a great hotspot option for emergencies.
I’m so grateful for the baristas who didn't mind me sitting there for three hours with a single latte!
The local hospitality is truly something to be thankful for.

My Final Recommendation
Puerto Vallarta is more than just a vacation spot; it is a place where you can actually build a life, even if only for a few months.
The balance between work and play is just perfect here.
You can finish your emails at 5:00 PM and be sitting on the beach with a cold drink by 5:10 PM.
If you are looking for the best puerto vallarta vacation rentals, I highly recommend sticking to the Amapas area for the best views and peace of mind.
It has been one of the BEST experiences of my life, and I already can't wait to go back.
The people, the food, and the sunsets are something you just have to experience for yourself.
Trust me, your boss won't even know you're in paradise: unless you forget to turn off your camera background!
