I am so excited to talk about planning your 2026 trip to Puerto Vallarta!
We have been spending so much time down here lately, and I can tell you that the energy in town is just AMAZING right now.

When we talk about the heart of the action, we are talking about Old Town.
You might hear people call it Zona Romantica too: it is the same place!
It is full of life, great food, and that classic cobblestone charm that we all LOVE.
But if you want my honest opinion, the absolute best place to rent is Amapas.
Amapas is tucked right next to Old Town, so you get all the convenience but it feels a bit more peaceful and elevated.

The views from the hills in Amapas are just unbeatable, and you are still only a short walk or a quick Uber from the beach.
Finding the Right Vibe
When you are looking for puerto vallarta vacation rentals, you want to think about how you actually spend your time.
Do you like to wake up and see the ocean right away?
We always look for places with big windows and balconies because the morning light here is sooooo beautiful.
I really love the condos that feel like a home rather than just a hotel room.
Having a kitchen is a total game-changer, even if you only use it for coffee and keeping your beers cold!
We often head to the Olas Altas Farmers Market on Saturday mornings to grab fresh fruit and local treats.
It is such a fun way to spend a morning, and then you can head back to your place to enjoy a snack with a view.
If you are just starting your search, there are a few things you should know before booking that will make your life a lot easier.
What to Look For in a Rental
Cleanliness and safety are obviously top priorities for us.
We always check that the place has good reviews and is located in a safe, walkable area.
Amapas and Old Town are very safe, and we feel totally comfortable walking around at night.
Another thing to look for is a place with good air conditioning and ceiling fans.
Even in 2026, the tropical heat is no joke, and you want to be able to cool down after a day in the sun!
If you want a place that feels fresh and modern, I highly recommend looking at condo rentals in puerto vallarta that have been recently updated.
Having a nice living area where you can relax after a day of exploring is so important.
We recently stayed in a place with a huge blue sofa and a mural on the wall: it felt so unique and cool!
Make the Most of Your 2026 Trip
There are so many cool things happening in Puerto Vallarta for 2026.
I definitely suggest booking a walking tour of the Malecon early in your trip.
It is a great way to get your bearings and find some hidden gems for dinner later.
If you want something really special, the ALMA by Rhythms of the Night show is truly SPECTACULAR.
It is a sunset cruise followed by a show in the jungle with dancers and acrobats: we had the BEST time.
And don't forget to take a hike to Mirador de La Cruz for the best photo op in the whole city.
The view of the bay from up there is something you will never forget.
Final Thoughts
Puerto Vallarta is a place that stays in your heart forever.
Choosing the right home base makes all the difference in how much you enjoy your vacation.
Stick to the Amapas or Old Town areas, look for those amazing views, and you really can't go wrong.
I honestly believe that Amapas is the best move you can make for your 2026 stay.
It is peaceful, beautiful, and so close to everything you want to do.
I highly recommend booking your spot early because the best places always go fast!
