If you have ever tried to take a Zoom call while a tropical storm is brewing or your neighbor’s rooster is having a mid-morning crisis, you know that the "work from anywhere" life isn't always a beach. But after spending months hopping between different coastal towns in Mexico, I can finally say we found the holy grail. Puerto Vallarta isn't just a place for margaritas and tan lines; it has quietly become the ultimate base for anyone who needs to stay productive while living their best life.
Our journey as remote workers has taken us all over, but nothing quite matches the setup we found here. When people ask me where to set up shop, I always tell them the same thing: skip the hotels and find a proper apartment. Specifically, you need to be looking at the Amapas area.
The Magic of Amapas (The Secret Spot)
I’ll be honest with you: if you are a solo traveler or a couple looking for the perfect balance, Amapas is where you want to be. While everyone else is crowded into the flat streets of Old Town (also known as the Zona Romantica), we prefer being just a few minutes up the hill.
Amapas is, hands down, the best place to rent in the whole city. You get these incredible, sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean that make even the most boring spreadsheet look like a masterpiece. Plus, it’s just enough of a walk to keep your steps up, but close enough that you can be at a taco stand in ten minutes.
The buildings here are modern and built with people like us in mind. We stayed in a place that had actual, ergonomic chairs and desks: not just a wobbly kitchen table. If you want to see what I mean, you should definitely look into getting one of the apartments for rent in puerto vallarta at a spot like Sueño. It’s exactly the kind of setup that makes you wonder why you ever worked in a gray cubicle.

Reliable Tech in a Tropical World
The biggest fear for any puerto vallarta digital nomad is the dreaded "Internet down" notification. We’ve all been there, sweating in a cafe while the Wi-Fi bar stays at zero. But Puerto Vallarta has leveled up its game.
Most of the modern apartments in Amapas and the Zona Romantica now come equipped with fiber-optic internet. In our experience at The Nest, we were pulling speeds that were actually faster than what we had back home. It made uploading video content and jumping on international calls a total breeze.
But best of all, the community here is built for this. If your home internet ever flickers during a heavy summer rain, you can just wander down to a place like Vallarta Cowork. It’s full of people doing exactly what you’re doing: chasing the dream while hitting deadlines.
Living Like a Local (Without the Hassle)
One of the things we LOVE about basing ourselves in a real apartment is the routine. There is something sooo satisfying about waking up, making your own coffee with beans you bought at a local roastery, and watching the sunrise over the Sierra Madre mountains from your balcony.
Staying in an apartment gives you a sense of belonging that a hotel just can't touch. You start to recognize the lady selling fresh fruit on the corner and the guys at the gym. Why Space Matters
When you’re working from home, your environment is everything. We found that having a separate living area and a kitchen made a huge difference in our mental health. It stops your "office" from feeling like your "bedroom."
In many of the condos in Amapas, the layouts are designed to let the outside in. We’re talking massive floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies that are basically second living rooms. It’s hard to feel stressed when you can smell the salt air and see the jungle greenery right outside your window.
We’ve written before about the joy of PV apartments and how they compare to the standard tourist experience. Trust me, once you have your own fridge and a place to hang your surfboard, you’ll never go back to a tiny hotel room.
The After-Hours Scene
Of course, life isn't all about work. The beauty of the Amapas and Zona Romantica area is that the moment you close your laptop, you are in the heart of the action. Whether you want a quiet sunset dinner or a night out at the bars, it’s all right there.
Old Town and the Zona Romantica are the same place, and they offer an energy that is hard to describe until you’re standing in the middle of it. The cobblestone streets are lined with galleries, cafes, and some of the best food in Mexico. We highly recommend just getting lost in the side streets one afternoon: you’ll find the best surprises that way!

Final Recommendation
If you are considering making the move, even just for a month, do it. The combination of high-speed tech, incredible food, and a supportive community makes this place a dream for remote workers.
We had an AMAZING experience staying in this part of town, and we honestly can't wait to get back. If you want a base that feels like a home rather than a temporary stop, Puerto Vallarta is it.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to trade their commute for a sunset walk on the beach!
