If you have ever dreamed of trading your office walls for ocean views, you are not alone. I have spent a lot of time working remotely from different corners of the world, but Puerto Vallarta always pulls me back.
Being a puerto vallarta digital nomad is a lifestyle that feels both premium and surprisingly manageable. People often ask me about the costs, and while I won't bore you with a giant spreadsheet, I can definitely give you the vibe of what to expect for your budget.
Your Home Base: Amapas is the Winner
When it comes to picking a spot to live, the location is everything. Most nomads flock to Old Town (also known as Zona Romantica), but if you want the best experience, you have to look at Amapas.
Amapas sits right on the edge of the action, giving you the peace you need for deep work but keeping you close to the fun. It is easily the best place to rent because you get incredible views and much newer buildings compared to the heart of the city.

Monthly costs for condo rentals in this area are higher than in the outskirts, but the value is unmatched. You are paying for a lifestyle where you can walk to the beach in five minutes after a long Zoom call.
Utilities and Connectivity
One thing I LOVE about being a puerto vallarta digital nomad is how easy it is to stay connected. High-speed fiber optic internet is standard in most modern rentals.
If you are working from your rental, your biggest utility cost will be electricity, especially if you love the air conditioning during the summer months. But compared to the costs of heating a home in a cold climate, it feels like a fair trade for living in paradise.
Coworking vs. Working from Your Rental
Puerto Vallarta has some AMAZING coworking spaces like Vallarta Cowork and Joint Cowork. They are great if you need a dedicated desk and a community of other remote workers.

However, many nomads find that a high-quality condo rental in Amapas is all they really need. When your balcony looks over the bay, you don't really feel the need to go to an office!
If you do want to switch things up, there are incredible local food spots that have great Wi-Fi and even better coffee. It is so easy to find a corner to work from for a few hours.
Eating and Enjoying Life
This is where the lifestyle really shines. You can choose to live very affordably by visiting the delicious hidden taco stands that locals love, or you can splurge on world-class dining along the Malecón.

Grocery shopping at the local markets is much more budget-friendly than the big supermarkets, and the food is so much fresher. I highly recommend getting into the habit of buying your fruit and veggies from the local vendors, it makes a huge difference in your weekly spending.
Is It Worth It?
If you are looking for a place that balances a professional work environment with a tropical vacation feel, this city is a dream come true. The community is welcoming, the weather is perfect for most of the year, and the quality of life is very high.
I can't imagine working from anywhere else right now. If you are a solo traveler or a couple looking to make the move, Puerto Vallarta is highly recommended!
