I have spent a lot of time looking at what makes a Puerto Vallarta condo work for two people who want both connection and quiet. For couples and digital nomads, Amapas stands out because it gives us a peaceful hillside setting without putting us far from the energy of Old Town.
The right condo can make a big difference. It gives us a place to finish a workday, close the laptops, and feel like we are actually on vacation.
1. A quiet setting away from daily noise
Amapas sits above the Zona Romantica, also known as Old Town. The neighborhood feels greener and calmer than the busier streets below, which makes it easier for two people to share a space without feeling surrounded by constant activity.
This matters when we work different hours. One person can take a call while the other reads, rests, or prepares lunch.
The hillside setting also creates a natural pause between work and free time. After closing the laptop, we can walk downhill toward Los Muertos Beach, cafés, galleries, and restaurants. The return walk is steeper, so we always check the exact location, stairs, and elevator access before booking.
Amapas is still our favorite place to rent because it offers that useful balance: peaceful at home, but close enough to enjoy the neighborhood on foot.
2. A balcony that changes the rhythm of the day
A private balcony is one of the most helpful features for couples staying in Amapas. It gives us a second room without adding another wall.
We can start the morning with coffee outside, take a short break between meetings, or sit together after work without turning on the television. Even a small balcony feels valuable when it has two comfortable chairs, a table, some shade, and a view of tropical greenery or the bay.
For digital nomads, a balcony can also become a change-of-scenery workspace. I would not rely on it as the main desk because glare, heat, and wind can become uncomfortable. But as a place to answer a few emails or review notes, it helps the day feel less repetitive.

3. A real workspace instead of a couch
A kitchen counter or sofa may look fine in a listing, but neither is ideal for a full workday. Couples should look for a condo with a proper table or desk, a comfortable chair, good lighting, and outlets nearby.
This is especially important when both people work remotely. A shared table lets us sit together while keeping enough room for two laptops, notebooks, and coffee. If the condo has a separate living area, one person can work while the other takes a break.
I also look for a workspace positioned away from the bed. That simple separation helps us avoid feeling as though the entire condo is an office.
A good layout does not need to be large. It just needs to give work its own place and make it easy to put work away at the end of the day.
4. Reliable internet with a backup plan
Fast Wi-Fi is not a bonus for digital nomads. It is part of the basic setup.
Before booking, we ask whether the condo uses fiber internet, where the router is located, and whether the host can share a recent speed test. If one of us needs video calls, we also ask whether there is an Ethernet connection or a backup option if the main service has an issue.
Casa Vizcarra 1 is a useful example of the type of practical feature we look for. Its listing notes high-speed Wi-Fi with an Ethernet port, air conditioning, a comfortable queen-size bed, and a well-stocked kitchen. It is located near Old Town rather than in Amapas, but those details provide a helpful checklist when we compare condo features.

5. Strong air conditioning in the work area
Puerto Vallarta can feel warm and humid, especially when we are sitting still at a desk for several hours. Air conditioning throughout the condo helps us stay comfortable and focused.
We check whether the work area is actually covered by the air conditioning. A bedroom unit may not cool the living room well, and a single wall unit may not reach every corner.
This is one of those small details that can affect the entire stay. When the room is comfortable, it is easier to work efficiently and enjoy the rest of the day. When it is not, even a beautiful view loses some of its appeal.
6. A kitchen for simple meals together
A full kitchen helps couples unplug because it makes staying in feel easy. We can prepare breakfast before work, make a quick lunch between calls, or cook dinner instead of going out every night.
I look for a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, coffee setup, basic cookware, sharp knives, and enough dishes for two. Filtered drinking water is another thoughtful feature because it means we can arrive and settle in without immediately searching for supplies.
Cooking together also gives us a simple routine. One person can prepare food while the other finishes a message, and then we can sit down together without rushing to the next reservation or appointment.
7. Comfortable sleeping space and a practical layout
Couples do not necessarily need a large condo, but we do need a comfortable sleeping area and enough separation between activities.
A king or queen bed, quality pillows, blackout curtains, and quiet surroundings can make a noticeable difference. If one person works late, a separate living area helps the other sleep without having the lights and laptop nearby.
I also check storage. A few drawers, closet space, and hooks near the entrance keep clothing and work bags from spreading across the room. Less clutter makes it much easier to relax.

8. Walkable access to everyday places
Amapas works well when we want a calm home base but still enjoy the convenience of Old Town. From many parts of the hillside, we can walk downhill to the beach, cafés, restaurants, galleries, and local shops.
The key is to plan around the terrain. We wear comfortable shoes, carry water, and remember that the walk back is uphill. For longer stays, we also ask how easy it is to call a taxi or arrange a ride from the building.
That practical information helps us enjoy the area without turning every outing into a logistical problem.
9. Color and local character without visual clutter
The best condo interiors bring in Mexican character through small details: handmade textiles, ceramic accents, colorful tiles, woven baskets, or local artwork.
These details make a temporary stay feel personal, but the space should still be comfortable and uncluttered. Couples need room to put down a laptop, unpack a suitcase, and move through the day without constantly rearranging furniture.
I love when a condo combines modern seating and appliances with local color. It feels fresh, but it still connects us to Puerto Vallarta.

10. A simple way to disconnect at the end of the day
The most important feature may be the one that is hardest to photograph: a layout and location that make it easy to stop working.
For us, that means a comfortable balcony, a quiet bedroom, a kitchen for dinner, and a living room where laptops can be closed and left out of sight. It also means being close enough to walk somewhere interesting after work.
A short outing can reset the whole evening. We might walk toward Old Town, look for colorful street art, or stop for a meal before returning to the quieter hillside. Our guide to Old Town’s hidden art walk shares one of our favorite ways to explore the area.
For couples and digital nomads, I highly recommend choosing an Amapas condo with reliable internet, a real workspace, strong air conditioning, a usable balcony, and a well-equipped kitchen. Those features help us stay productive when needed, but best of all, they make it much easier to close the laptop and enjoy Puerto Vallarta together.
