We have spent plenty of time in Puerto Vallarta, both on short visits and longer work-focused stays. For couples who want good food, easy conversation, and a comfortable home base without planning every minute, Amapas is our favorite place to rent.
Amapas sits above Old Town, also called Zona Romantica, so you can walk downhill into the neighborhood for dinner and return to a quieter hillside afterward. That mix works especially well if one or both of you are digital nomads. You get a peaceful place to work during the day and simple date-night options once the laptops close.
1. Start with a slow walk downhill
Our favorite date nights begin before dinner.
Leave your condo with comfortable shoes and walk downhill through Amapas toward Old Town. The streets are hilly and some sidewalks are uneven, but the colorful buildings, tropical plants, and small viewpoints make the route feel like part of the evening.
We usually take our time instead of treating the walk like transportation. Stop for a few photos, look for a small café, and choose one place that feels inviting. You do not need a strict plan.
If you are tired after a workday, take a taxi downhill and save the walk for later. We prefer walking down and taking a taxi back up, especially after dinner.

2. Share a casual dinner in Old Town
A low-key date night does not need a formal meal. In fact, we often enjoy a relaxed dinner more when we can share several small dishes and talk without rushing.
Look for a busy taquería with a visible grill and plenty of local activity. Order a few different tacos, then compare favorites. Al pastor, grilled fish, carne asada, and carnitas all make easy choices for sharing.
Another option is a small restaurant with sidewalk seating. This lets you enjoy the energy of the neighborhood while still having enough space for a real conversation.
We like choosing one main stop rather than moving between several restaurants. That keeps the night flexible and gives us time to wander afterward.
For couples working remotely, this is also a good way to make your stay feel less like a work trip. Put your phones away during dinner, talk about something unrelated to email, and let the evening move at its own pace.
3. Make a café and dessert stop
After dinner, find a café or bakery and split something sweet.
This is one of the easiest date ideas in Amapas and Old Town because you do not need a reservation or a full evening commitment. Share a pastry, order coffee, or choose a chilled fruit drink while you watch people pass by.
We especially like this option when one of us has an early work call the next morning. A short dessert stop gives the night a clear finish without making us feel like we missed out.
It also works well for couples with different energy levels. One person can order a coffee while the other chooses dessert, and you can head home whenever you are ready.
4. Browse local art and colorful streets
Old Town is easy to explore on foot, and a gallery walk makes a nice change from a dinner-only date.
Spend an hour wandering through the side streets and looking into small galleries, craft shops, and local boutiques. You do not need to buy anything. We enjoy talking about the pieces we like, noticing details in the colors, and taking our time between stops.
If you visit during a scheduled gallery evening, check the current hours before leaving your condo. Some galleries stay open later on certain nights, while others keep shorter hours during quieter periods.
A relaxed art walk is especially good for digital nomads who spend much of the day looking at screens. It gives you something visual and local to enjoy without requiring a major excursion.

5. Have a simple date night at home
Sometimes the best date night is the one that does not involve going out.
Amapas condos are a good fit for this because having a kitchen and living area gives you more choices. Pick up fresh fruit, tortillas, local snacks, and a few ingredients for a simple meal. Then cook together or assemble an easy dinner at home.
We like giving each person one small job. One of us prepares the food while the other sets the table or chooses music. It feels more personal than ordering everything separately, but it does not require complicated cooking.
Casa Hummingbird is a practical option for couples because it has a one-bedroom layout, a kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, a workspace, and a partial ocean view. The home is also close enough to Old Town and Los Muertos Beach for an evening walk when you want to go out.
Keep the meal simple. Tacos, guacamole, sliced mango, and sparkling water are more than enough for a relaxed night.

6. Create a work-to-date transition
Couples who work remotely often need a clear boundary between work and personal time.
Our suggestion is to choose a simple closing routine. Shut the laptops, take a quick shower, change clothes, and leave the condo for a short walk. Even ten minutes outside can make the evening feel separate from the workday.
If you have different schedules, the person who finishes first can walk to a nearby café or wait on the balcony while the other wraps up. Then meet for the walk downhill together.
Casa Hummingbird includes a dedicated desk, which makes it easier to keep work in one part of the room and relaxation in another. That small separation matters when you are staying for more than a few nights.
For packing ideas, bring comfortable shoes with good grip, lightweight clothes, a small day bag, and a portable charger. The hills and cobblestones are manageable, but your feet will appreciate the extra support.
7. Walk near the beach and pier
After dinner, continue toward Los Muertos Beach and take a slow walk near the water.
The beach area stays lively, but you can still find a quieter stretch for conversation. Walk toward the pier, sit for a while, or share a paleta before deciding whether to continue through Old Town.
We recommend keeping this part unplanned. You may find live music, a small shop, or a place that looks perfect for one final drink or snack.
When you are ready to return to Amapas, take a taxi back uphill instead of pushing through a long walk. Keep your phone charged, carry only what you need, and stay on well-lit streets.
8. Try a no-agenda evening
Our favorite low-key date idea is sometimes the simplest: choose one meal, one walk, and no schedule beyond that.
Amapas makes this easy because you can be close to restaurants, cafés, galleries, the beach, and Old Town while still returning to a quieter place. You can change your plans without losing the whole evening.
That flexibility is valuable for digital nomads. After a full day of meetings or focused work, you may want a big night one day and a quiet meal at home the next.

Our simple date-night plan
If we were planning a low-key evening for two, this is what we would do:
- Finish work and leave the condo around 6:30 p.m.
- Walk downhill through Amapas toward Old Town.
- Choose a casual restaurant and share several dishes.
- Browse a few streets or galleries after dinner.
- Stop for coffee or dessert.
- Take a taxi back uphill when we are ready.
- End the night with music, conversation, and the view from home.
For couples who want a comfortable base close to the action, rent apartments in puerto vallarta with a layout that supports both work and downtime.
Casa Hummingbird is a particularly good match if you want a one-bedroom space for two, reliable Wi-Fi, a kitchen, a workspace, and quick access to Old Town. If Amapas feels right for your stay, rent apartments puerto vallarta and build your evenings around the neighborhood instead of a rigid itinerary.
Amapas is the best place to rent for couples who want peaceful nights, colorful streets, practical condo living, and easy access to Puerto Vallarta’s food and culture. We highly recommend it for a low-key couples’ stay.
