I have spent a lot of time working from Puerto Vallarta, and I keep coming back to Amapas because it makes remote work feel more natural.
The neighborhood gives us a calm home base, colorful streets, nearby cafés, and easy access to Old Town, also known as Zona Romantica. For couples, it creates a nice balance: one person can work while the other explores, and you can still meet up for coffee, lunch, or a walk without planning your entire day around transportation.
Amapas is also my favorite place to rent in Puerto Vallarta. The hillside setting feels peaceful, but the café rhythm below keeps the area connected and social.
What the Amapas café rhythm feels like
The best part of working from Amapas is that the day does not need to follow a strict office schedule.
I usually begin at our condo with coffee, a quick check of messages, and a plan for the most important task of the day. Once I know what needs my full attention, I walk downhill to a café for a change of scenery.
That short walk matters. It gets me away from the screen, gives me fresh air, and helps me start work with a clearer head. The streets are hilly, so comfortable shoes are essential, especially if you are carrying a laptop.
The café atmosphere changes throughout the day. Earlier hours often feel calmer and work-friendly, while later hours can become more social and active. For video calls or deep focus, I prefer arriving earlier and choosing a seat away from the entrance.

Choose your café based on the kind of work you need to do
Not every café works for every type of remote work.
If I need to answer emails, write, or organize a project, I look for a relaxed café with comfortable seating and a steady background hum. Bean & Brick and Trovasi are the kinds of places I would consider for a slower work block when I want coffee and a quieter setting.
If I need food with my laptop time, Barra Light near the edge of Amapas and Zona Romantica can make more sense. It gives us the option to combine a work session with a light meal instead of stopping twice.
For a short coffee break, Dee’s Coffee Company is a practical choice. I do not always need a full work session. Sometimes I only need twenty minutes to review notes, answer a few messages, and return to the condo feeling refreshed.
When I want more café choices, I walk into Old Town. Mi Café, El Sofa Café, and Danza Café are useful options for different moods. El Sofa Café can feel more like an informal shared workspace, while Danza Café works well when I want a longer window for writing or planning.
I always check the current opening hours and Wi-Fi situation when I arrive. Local businesses can change their schedules, and a café that is quiet one day may be busy the next.
A simple workday plan for couples
Couples do not always work on the same schedule. One person may start early, while the other needs a slower morning. Amapas makes that difference easier to manage.
Here is the rhythm that works well for us:
- Start together at the condo. We have coffee, discuss the day, and decide when we want to meet again.
- Separate for the first work block. One person can work from the condo while the other walks to a café.
- Meet for a short break. We choose a nearby place for coffee or a snack rather than interrupting a productive work session.
- Use the afternoon for lighter tasks. This is a good time for messages, planning, reading, or administrative work.
- Finish away from the screen. We walk through the neighborhood, explore Old Town, or return home to cook.
This arrangement gives us time together without forcing us to work side by side all day. It also prevents the trip from feeling like we simply moved our home office to another country.
Set up your condo for the work you cannot do in a café
Cafés are useful, but I would not depend on them for every important meeting or deadline.
A reliable condo setup gives us a backup when the café is full, the weather changes, or we need privacy. Before booking, I look for strong Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a comfortable table, enough outlets, and a quiet place for calls.
A small work corner is often enough. I do not need a separate office, but I do need a surface where my laptop can stay open without taking over the kitchen or bed.

I also pack a compact power bank, headphones, and a short extension cord. These small items make café work much easier when outlets are limited.
For important meetings, I test the connection before the call begins. I close large downloads, keep a phone hotspot ready, and let my partner know when I need a quiet thirty-minute window.
That little bit of planning avoids unnecessary stress.
Why Amapas works so well for this lifestyle
Amapas gives digital nomads something that a typical work trip often misses: a sense of place.
Between tasks, we can walk past brightly painted walls, tropical plants, small neighborhood shops, and traditional Mexican details. The route into Old Town is full of movement, food, art, and local life, so even a simple coffee run feels like part of the trip.
At the same time, Amapas is quieter than the busiest parts of Zona Romantica. When I finish working, I can return uphill and enjoy a calmer setting instead of staying in the middle of the evening activity.
The hills are the main practical challenge. If you have a laptop, camera, or other equipment with you, walking downhill may feel easier than walking back up. We often walk down and use a short taxi ride back when we are tired or carrying groceries.
That flexibility makes a difference. You can enjoy the walk when you feel like it and keep the return trip simple when you do not.

A comfortable home base makes the café routine better
The café rhythm works best when the condo supports it.
I like having enough space to make coffee, store snacks, and leave my work items organized. A small kitchen is especially helpful for couples because it gives us an easy alternative to eating out during every break.
A comfortable bed, dependable air conditioning, and a strong internet connection also matter more than decorative extras when we are combining work and travel.
If you are planning a couple’s work trip, talk about your needs before arrival. Decide whether you need one shared workspace or two separate areas. Agree on quiet hours for calls. Choose which tasks belong in a café and which should stay at home.
Those conversations make the trip smoother and help both people enjoy Puerto Vallarta.
My favorite way to combine work and exploring
I do not try to work from a different café every day. That can become distracting, especially when I need to complete focused work.
Instead, I choose one dependable café for longer sessions and save the other places for short breaks, casual meetings, or days when I want more energy around me.
I also leave room for local discoveries. A workday can include a short walk through Old Town, a stop for a fresh drink, or a quiet hour reading in the condo. These pauses help the trip feel personal rather than scheduled from morning until night.

Final thoughts
Amapas is not just a place to open a laptop. It gives couples and digital nomads a daily rhythm that combines focused work, local cafés, short walks, and real downtime.
I love that we can begin with a quiet work block, walk downhill for coffee, meet for lunch, and return to a peaceful condo when we need to recharge. The mix of convenience, color, and neighborhood character makes the routine feel easy.
If you want a Puerto Vallarta trip that includes meaningful work time without giving up the feeling of a real vacation, I highly recommend choosing Amapas as your home base.
