We have spent enough time in Puerto Vallarta to know that the last day can easily become the most stressful one. There is packing, checking travel documents, finishing work, and trying to fit in one more perfect meal.
When we stay in Amapas, we take a different approach. We keep the final day close, simple, and flexible. Amapas is our favorite place to rent because we can enjoy quiet streets, local food, beach time, and a comfortable condo without rushing across the city.
If you are a couple of digital nomads, this plan gives you time to finish your work, enjoy Puerto Vallarta together, and leave feeling rested rather than exhausted.
Start with a slow condo morning
Our last day begins at the condo. We do not schedule an early tour or plan a long trip outside town. Instead, we make coffee, open the windows, and give ourselves time to wake up properly.
Amapas is built into the hillside, so the greenery and fresh air make even an ordinary morning feel special. We sit together, talk through the day, and decide what we genuinely want to do rather than trying to repeat the entire vacation in a few hours.
This is also the best time to handle practical tasks.
We check our flight details, download boarding passes, charge our phones, and confirm how we are getting to the airport. If you work remotely, use this quiet period to answer important messages and finish anything that cannot wait.
A full kitchen makes this part of the day much easier. We can prepare something light, fill our water bottles, and avoid leaving the condo before we are ready.
Before heading out, we also pack anything we will not need again. Keeping the bags mostly organized means we can enjoy the rest of the day without worrying about whether everything will fit later.
Take one final look at the view
After breakfast and work, we like to spend a few quiet minutes on the balcony or beside the windows.
This is not about making a big event of the moment. We simply pause, look over the hills and bay, and appreciate the place where we stayed. The final day often feels more meaningful when we allow ourselves to notice small details: the sound of birds, the bright colors of the buildings, and the way the city moves below us.
It also gives us a chance to check the weather and decide how much walking feels comfortable. Amapas has steep streets and steps, so we do not pretend that every outing needs to be a long hike.

Late morning is a good time to head toward the lower part of Amapas and the nearby Zona Romántica area. The walk is scenic, but we take it slowly and wear comfortable shoes.
We stop for coffee and something small to eat rather than ordering a heavy meal. A pastry, fruit, chilaquiles, or a breakfast sandwich gives us enough energy without making us feel sleepy for the rest of the day.
For digital nomads, this is also a useful work window. If you still have a few emails to send, choose a café with dependable Wi-Fi, order regularly, and keep the laptop session focused. We prefer to finish work in one short block rather than carrying it around all day.
Bring headphones, a charger, and a backup phone connection if your work is urgent. We also save important files offline before leaving the condo. That small step gives us peace of mind if the connection becomes unreliable while we are out.
Choose a short beach visit
After coffee, we head toward the beach for a final visit. The key is to keep it short and easy.
Amapas and the nearby coves offer a quieter setting, while Los Muertos Beach has more restaurants, activity, and places to sit. We choose based on our energy level and how much time remains before we need to return for luggage.
We usually spend an hour or two near the water. We swim if conditions are comfortable, take a walk, and find a shaded place to relax. We do not try to turn the last day into an ambitious beach-hopping plan.
Bring only what you need: water, sunscreen, a phone, and a small bag. Leave passports and extra valuables secured at the condo. It is much easier to relax when we are not keeping track of too many things.
If you have a later flight, you can enjoy a longer lunch nearby. If your departure is earlier, even a quick walk by the water is enough to make the day feel complete.
Have an unhurried final lunch
Our favorite last-day meals are simple. We choose somewhere close to the beach or on the route back toward Amapas, then give ourselves plenty of time to eat.
This is a good day for familiar favorites: fresh seafood, tacos, a salad, or a cold drink. We avoid choosing a restaurant that requires a long drive or a complicated reservation. The goal is to enjoy one last meal together, not create another travel task.
We also like using lunch as a final conversation about the trip. What did we enjoy most? Which places would we return to? What would we do differently next time?
For us, those conversations are often more memorable than trying to visit one additional attraction.
Leave room for one small local stop
After lunch, we may browse a nearby shop, walk through a colorful street, or pick up a small souvenir. We keep this stop practical and limited.
A local market or neighborhood shop is ideal for a final gift because it does not require much time. We carry a small amount of cash for casual purchases, but we do not fill our bags with items that will be difficult to pack.
Amapas and the nearby streets are especially enjoyable for this kind of wandering. The architecture is colorful, the hills create changing views, and small details appear around every corner.
Return early to pack calmly
We always return to the condo earlier than we think we need to. This is one of the best ways to protect the relaxed feeling of the day.
Back inside, we shower, finish packing, and check every room. We look under the bed, inside drawers, near charging outlets, and in the bathroom. We place passports, phones, wallets, and travel documents in one easy-to-find bag.
We also leave a little space in our schedule for traffic, a delayed rideshare, or a forgotten item. Puerto Vallarta is easy to enjoy, but airport days still work better with extra time.
If you are working remotely, send your final message before packing the laptop away. Once the bags are closed, let the workday end.
Finish with a quiet evening close to home
For our final meal, we stay near Amapas or the nearby Old Town area. We choose somewhere familiar, comfortable, and easy to reach.
A relaxed dinner gives us one last chance to enjoy local flavors without watching the clock every few minutes. Afterward, we take a short walk only if we still feel fresh. Otherwise, we return to the condo, set our alarms, and enjoy one final calm evening indoors.
The best part is not squeezing in one more major experience. It is knowing that we enjoyed the place at our own pace.
Amapas works so well for this kind of trip because it gives couples a peaceful home base while keeping the food, beach, cafés, and streets of Puerto Vallarta close by. We can work when we need to, explore when we want to, and return to a comfortable space whenever the hills or heat become tiring.
