We have spent plenty of working afternoons in Amapas, so we know the challenge: you want a real lunch, a change of scenery, and time with your partner, but you still need to answer emails or finish an important task.
The good news is that Amapas makes this easy. You can work from a comfortable condo, walk downhill to cafés in and around Zona Romántica, and return to a quiet hillside space when you are finished.
For us, Amapas is the best place to rent when you want both productivity and a proper Puerto Vallarta vacation.
Why Amapas works so well for a lunch break
Amapas sits on the hillside just south of the main downtown area. That location gives you a calmer setting, leafy views, and easy access to cafés, restaurants, and local streets below.
The walk downhill is simple enough for most visitors, but the climb back can feel warm, especially in the middle of the day. That is why we recommend planning your lunch break instead of leaving it to chance.
A short walk to lunch can help you reset after a busy morning. You get fresh air, local scenery, and a chance to step away from your screen. Then you can return to your condo feeling more focused.
Amapas also works well for couples because you do not have to spend the entire day working in the same room. One person can take a call while the other goes for coffee, or you can share lunch before dividing up for a focused hour.

Choose your lunch break time carefully
Our favorite working-lunch window is between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
At that time, many cafés are open and the busiest lunch crowd has not fully arrived. It is easier to find a table, connect to Wi-Fi, and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.
The 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. period can be much busier. Cafés may have more conversations, fewer open tables, and heavier demand on the internet connection.
If your schedule does not allow an early lunch, try a later café break around 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. The atmosphere often becomes calmer again, and you can finish a few tasks before heading back up the hill.
We also avoid scheduling an important video call while walking downhill. It is much better to arrive, cool down, order something, and test the connection before joining a meeting.
Pick the right place for the kind of work you need to do
Not every lunch stop has the same atmosphere. We choose based on the task in front of us.
For quiet concentration
Bean & Brick and Trovasi are good options when we need to write, plan, or review documents without too much noise.
Trovasi has a quieter neighborhood feel, which helps when one of us needs to concentrate. Bean & Brick is useful when we want a little more space and the flexibility to stay for a longer lunch break.
We still check the table layout before settling in. A small café table may be perfect for lunch but less comfortable for two laptops.
For calls and stronger Wi-Fi
The Hustle is a practical choice when reliable internet is the priority. It has a more work-focused atmosphere, plenty of table space, and a community of remote professionals.
Puerto Cafe is another convenient option within walking distance of Amapas. We like it when we have an upload, video call, or deadline that cannot wait.
Before ordering, we ask for the Wi-Fi details and test the connection. This takes less than a minute and can prevent a lot of stress later.
For a relaxed lunch together
El Sofá Café works well when the main goal is to eat, talk, and handle a small amount of work.
We would not choose it for a full afternoon of meetings, but it is comfortable for checking messages, reviewing a short document, or planning the rest of the day. It also gives couples a chance to enjoy lunch together instead of turning the entire break into another work session.

Use a simple 90-minute lunch-break plan
A productive lunch does not need to feel strict. We use a simple structure that leaves room for conversation.
First 10 minutes: arrive and settle in
Choose a table, order your food, and let yourself cool down. Amapas is beautiful, but the hillside walk can be warm, so we do not open our laptops the moment we sit down.
This is also the right time to ask about Wi-Fi, locate an outlet, and make sure the table is comfortable.
Next 20 minutes: eat without multitasking
We try to put the laptops aside while our food arrives. This gives us a real break and helps us enjoy the local flavors.
If you are traveling as a couple, use this time to agree on what each person needs to finish. One person may have a call later, while the other may only need to clear a few messages.
Next 45 minutes: focus on one task
After lunch, choose one important task rather than trying to complete everything.
You might respond to clients, finish a presentation, upload files, or prepare notes for a meeting. A single goal makes the break feel manageable and keeps you from spending the entire time switching between apps.
We also recommend using headphones for calls, but keeping the volume low enough to remain aware of the café around you.
Final 15 minutes: close the loop
Before leaving, send any urgent messages, save your work, and write down the next step for tomorrow.
Then close the laptop. The point of a lunch break is not only to be productive. It is also to return to your vacation with enough energy to enjoy the afternoon.
Make your condo part of the work plan
Cafés are helpful, but we do not rely on them for every lunch break.
A comfortable dining table, a good chair, working air conditioning, and stable internet can make a big difference when you need a quiet hour. This is especially useful for couples who have different schedules or calls in different time zones.
When we stay in Amapas, we like having the option to prepare a quick lunch at home and work from the dining area afterward. It saves the walk when the weather feels too warm and gives us more control over noise and connection quality.
The open kitchen and dining area in a place like Hummingbird can work well for a shared lunch and short work session. Vizcarra 1 is also worth considering when you want a calm home base between outings.

Keep a small digital-nomad lunch kit
We always carry a few simple items when we leave our condo to work:
- A charged laptop and phone
- A compact charger or power bank
- Earbuds or headphones
- A small notebook and pen
- A local data plan for backup internet
- Water in a reusable bottle
- A light bag that keeps electronics protected
A local SIM or mobile data plan is especially helpful. Internet service is usually useful in the popular café areas, but occasional outages can happen anywhere.
We also download important documents before leaving the condo. That way, we can continue reviewing notes even if the connection slows down.
Follow good café etiquette
A productive lunch works best when we respect the people running the café.
If we plan to stay for more than an hour, we order a proper meal or add another drink. We avoid occupying a large table during a busy period, and we ask before taking a call that may last a long time.
We also keep our belongings close. Amapas feels welcoming, but normal travel awareness still matters when you are carrying a laptop and phone.
Most importantly, we do not expect every café to function as a full-time office. Some places are better for a quick lunch and a few emails, while others are designed for longer work sessions.
Our ideal Amapas lunch-break routine
On a typical workday, we start from the condo and choose a café before the busiest lunch period.
We walk downhill, order something fresh, and spend the first part of the break talking instead of looking at our screens. Then we complete one focused task, close the laptops, and take a few minutes to enjoy the neighborhood before heading back.
If the climb feels too warm, we use a taxi for the return trip and save our energy for the rest of the day.
This routine gives us the best of both sides of Amapas: the peaceful feel of the hillside and the lively food and café scene nearby.
Final recommendation
If you are a digital nomad traveling with your partner, Amapas is an excellent base for productive lunch breaks.
Plan your timing, choose the café according to your task, test the Wi-Fi before an important call, and keep a backup connection on your phone. Most of all, leave enough time to enjoy the meal instead of treating lunch as another rushed meeting.
We highly recommend staying in Amapas, especially if you want a comfortable condo, local cafés, hillside calm, and easy access to the best parts of Puerto Vallarta.
