My partner and I just got back from the most incredible trip to Puerto Vallarta, and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it! We’ve stayed in a few different areas over the years, but this time we chose the Amapas neighborhood.
Let me tell you, it was hands down our favorite experience so far. Amapas is nestled right on the hillside, giving you these insane views of the ocean while still being just a few minutes away from all the action.
We found it to be the best place to rent because it’s much quieter than being right in the middle of the noise, but you can still walk down to the beach in no time. If you are a couple looking for that perfect mix of romance and convenience, or even if you are a digital nomad who needs a quiet spot, this is the place.
We loved every second of our stay and I wanted to share exactly how we spent our perfect weekend. It really felt like we were in our own little world up on that hill.
Friday: Settling Into Our Hillside Oasis
We arrived in the early afternoon and our check-in was so smooth. Our place was exactly what we were looking for: modern, clean, and those views!
We quickly unpacked and realized how much we appreciated being in Amapas. It felt like our own private corner of paradise. Before we left, we spent some time reading through a 7 must-have features to make sure we were picking the right spot.
It really helped us understand the layout of the city and why Amapas was the right choice for us. After we got settled, we decided to take a slow walk down the hill toward Old Town.

You might hear people call it Zona Romantica too, but just know they are the same wonderful place. We wandered through the cobblestone streets, admiring the colorful buildings and the vibrant energy of the neighborhood.
For dinner, we headed over to Basilio Badillo, which is often called "Restaurant Row." There are so many amazing options there that it was hard to choose.
We ended up at a cozy little spot with outdoor seating where we could watch the world go by. The food was incredible, and the atmosphere was so romantic.
Saturday: Beach Days and Tacos
Saturday morning started with a slow breakfast on our balcony. We had picked up some fresh fruit and local coffee the day before, and sitting out there with the warm breeze was pure bliss.

Since we both had a few things to check on for work, we spent an hour or two on our laptops. The high-speed WiFi in our unit was a lifesaver!
It’s such a relief to know you can stay connected while looking at the most beautiful view you've ever seen. Once we were done, we grabbed our towels and headed down to Playa Los Muertos.
This beach is legendary, and for good reason. We spent the whole afternoon lounging in the sun and taking occasional dips in the clear blue water.
We were looking for rentals in puerto vallarta for a long time, and we are so glad we found this spot. It made all the difference being able to just walk back and forth from the beach whenever we wanted.

For lunch, we decided to go on a little taco hunt. We had heard so much about the local food scene, so we made sure to check out the hidden taco stands that were recommended to us.
Let me tell you, those street tacos did not disappoint! The flavors were so fresh and authentic. We tried everything from al pastor to grilled shrimp, and every single bite was a winner.
Saturday night was our "fancy" night out. We found a stunning restaurant tucked away in the hills that overlooked the bay. The service was impeccable, and we felt so spoiled.

Sunday: Exploration and Relaxation
On our final day, we wanted to see a bit more of the area. We took a taxi south to see the Los Arcos rock formations.
They are so striking against the deep blue water, and we even saw some dolphins jumping in the distance! After our little excursion, we spent the afternoon walking along the Malecón.
This oceanfront boardwalk is always full of life. We loved looking at all the different sculptures and stopping for a cold drink at one of the many cafes along the way.
We also took some time to browse through the local shops for some souvenirs. There is so much talent here, and we found some beautiful handmade pottery.
When you're looking to rent apartments in puerto vallarta, you want to be somewhere that makes you feel connected to the culture. Amapas and the surrounding areas do exactly that.
Our weekend was exactly what we needed to recharge. We felt so safe and comfortable the entire time, and having such a beautiful place to come back to each night was the cherry on top.
If you are planning a trip soon, I cannot recommend Amapas enough. It really is the ultimate spot for a romantic getaway or a productive digital nomad stint.
Everything about this trip was SOOO AMAZING! I LOVE this city and I know you will too. If you're looking for the best possible experience, staying in Amapas is highly recommended!
