I have spent so much time wandering the cobblestone streets of Puerto Vallarta that I feel like I know every single stone by name.
Most people who visit only see the Malecón and the big tourist spots.
But if you want to find the true magic, you have to go south.
I’m talking about the areas where the jungle meets the sea.
Old Town, which everyone also calls Zona Romántica, is the heart of the city.
But just above it lies Amapas.
To me, Amapas is the BEST place to rent.
It has the views, the quiet, and the quick access to the beach.
The Secret Stairs to Playa Amapas
Everyone knows Los Muertos beach.
It is famous for the pier and the beach clubs.
But if you walk all the way south to the big rocks at the end, you find something special.
There are these little stone steps that lead you over a ridge called El Púlpito.
Most tourists just stop at the rocks, but we keep going.
Once you cross over, you find Playa Amapas.

It is a tiny, hidden cove with bright emerald water.
There are no vendors here and no loud music.
It’s just you, the trees, and the sound of the ocean.
I LOVE coming here early in the morning with a book.
If you are a solo traveller looking for peace, this is your spot!
Why I Recommend Amapas for Your Stay
When we talk about finding rentals in puerto vallarta, I always point people toward Amapas.
The hills give you a perspective that you just can’t get on the flat streets of Old Town.
You get to see the entire bay turning gold at sunset.
Plus, it feels much more private.
The buildings are modern and clean.
I’ve stayed in a few places like Sueño and The Nest.
They are incredible because they feel so tucked away from the noise.
Living here feels like you have a secret base.
You can walk down the hill in five minutes for tacos and then retreat back to your quiet space.
It really is the best of both worlds.
I feel so grateful every time I get to wake up to that view.

Exploring the Quiet Side of Zona Romántica
Even though Old Town is busy, there are hidden pockets where life slows down.
One of my favorite things to do is walk the Romántica side of the Cuale River.

Most people stay on the island, but if you walk the south bank, you see real life.
There are kids playing soccer and tiny neighborhood stores.
It feels very traditional and colorful.
I also highly recommend finding the Olas Altas juice stand near Basilio Badillo.
The vendor there makes the best fresh green juice.
It’s cheap, it’s fresh, and it’s a total local secret.
It’s so much better than going to a big café.
Staying Safe and Comfortable
Safety is always a big question for people.
I always tell my friends that I feel very comfortable here.
The neighborhoods are well-lit and people are incredibly friendly.
If you have questions about this, you should read more about how safe Puerto Vallarta is for guests.
When searching for rental properties in puerto vallarta, I look for places that have that modern aesthetic.
I like clean lines and bright spaces.

Mexican motifs mixed with modern furniture make a home feel so cozy.
It makes such a difference in how you experience your vacation.
Having a kitchen where you can cook fresh fish from the market is just AMAZING!
The Magic of Isla Cuale
Before you head back to your condo, make sure to visit the eastern end of Isla Cuale.
Most people only see the market near the bridge.
But if you keep walking east, the crowds disappear.

The trees are huge and provide so much shade.
It is cool and quiet even on the hottest days.
You can find the Cultural Center there and sometimes see local artists working.
It is such a peaceful escape.
But best of all, it’s completely free to enjoy.
My Final Recommendation
Puerto Vallarta has a soul that you only find by stepping off the main path.
I suggest spending your mornings at the hidden beaches and your afternoons in the quiet parts of Old Town.
But most importantly, stay in Amapas.
The combination of the jungle, the views, and the modern condos is unbeatable.
I highly recommend booking your next trip here.
You will fall in love with it just like I did!
THANK YOU for reading and I hope your next trip is the best one ever!!
