I have spent so much time exploring every corner of Puerto Vallarta, and let me tell you, finding the right place to stay makes all the difference!
Whether you are a solo traveler or coming with your whole crew, picking the perfect home base is the first step to an AMAZING vacation.
Over the years, I have stayed in everything from tiny studios to huge villas, and I’ve learned exactly what to look for when booking.
Puerto Vallarta has a very specific vibe that you just can't find anywhere else in Mexico, but it can be a bit confusing if you haven't been here before.
Why Location is Everything
When people talk about the "heart" of the city, they are usually talking about Old Town.
You might also hear people call it the Zona Romantica: just so you know, they are exactly the same place!
It is the most vibrant part of town with cobblestone streets, incredible food, and a buzz that never seems to stop.
If you love being steps away from the best tacos and bars, this is where you want to be for your zona romantica puerto vallarta rentals.

But if I’m being totally honest, my absolute favorite place to stay is Amapas.
Amapas is tucked just slightly south of the main hustle and bustle of Old Town.
It sits on a hillside, which means you get these incredible views of the ocean and the jungle that you just can’t get down on the flat streets.
It feels a bit more private and quiet, but you can still walk down to the beach or the restaurants in about five to ten minutes.
I highly recommend looking at Amapas first if you want that perfect balance of peace and proximity!
What to Look for in Your Condo
When I’m browsing through puerto vallarta condo rentals, I always look for a few specific things to make sure the stay is comfortable.
First off, cleanliness is a HUGE deal for me.
I always check the recent reviews to see what other guests are saying about the housekeeping.
Safety is another big one, especially if you are traveling alone or for the first time.
Most of the buildings I love have 24/7 security, which really gives me peace of mind when I’m coming home late after a fun dinner.
I also look for a modern aesthetic because I love feeling like I’m in a fresh, clean space.

There is something so nice about having a sleek kitchen where you can whip up some breakfast before heading out for the day.
I really appreciate it when a place incorporates local culture, like beautiful Mexican tiles or hand-made furniture.
It reminds you exactly where you are and makes the experience feel so much more authentic!

My Top Rental Recommendations
I have seen so many properties, but there are a couple that always stand out to me.
One of them is called Sueño, and it is just spectacular.
It has a polished feel without being stuffy, and the attention to detail is just SOOO good.
Another one that I really like is called The Nest, which is perfect for a cozy getaway.
If you are looking for something that feels like a real "find," you have to look into Opportunity.
It is such a great spot and I always tell my friends to check it out when they are planning their visit.
I’m always so grateful for the amazing property managers here who make sure everything is perfect for guests.
They really go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need, from extra towels to the best restaurant tips!

Making the Most of Your Stay
Puerto Vallarta is a very safe city, but it’s always good to be smart.
I usually tell people that if they feel comfortable in any major US or Canadian city, they will feel right at home here.
If you have any worries at all, I wrote a post about the safety truth that you might find really helpful.
One thing I LOVE doing is just walking around the neighborhood and finding new coffee shops.
There are so many hidden gems tucked away on the side streets of Amapas and Old Town.
And don't worry if it happens to rain during your trip!
The tropical rain is actually kind of beautiful, and there are plenty of indoor things to do near your condo.
Final Thoughts on Your PV Trip
Choosing a great rental really elevates the whole experience.
Coming home to a beautiful, air-conditioned space after a day at the beach is just the BEST feeling ever.
I always feel so much more relaxed when I have a comfortable place to retreat to.
Whether you choose the energy of the Zona Romantica or the hillside charm of Amapas, you are going to have an AMAZING time.
But seriously, give Amapas a look: it is the best place to rent in my opinion!
I am so excited for you to experience the magic of this town.
It really is a special place that stays in your heart long after you leave.

Make sure you book your stay early because the best spots go FAST!
I hope this guide helps you find your perfect home away from home.
See you in the sun soon!!
