I’ve stayed in a lot of condos in Puerto Vallarta, sometimes just as a solo traveler, but plenty of times with my family in tow. If you’re traveling with kids, or just want a little extra comfort and space, there are a few features you absolutely have to look out for. Puerto Vallarta is famous for its family-friendly vibes, and whether you’re hanging out in Amapas (my top choice by miles!) or wandering around Old Town/Zona Romantica, these are the must-have condo features that make every trip way better.
1. Fully Equipped Kitchens Make Meals a Breeze
I cannot tell you how much I value a good, fully stocked kitchen. When we travel as a family, we’re up early, kids want pancakes, I want coffee, and nobody wants to head out just to grab breakfast.
Most family-friendly condos here come with the whole lineup: fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, and all the cookware you need. Not only does this mean you save money by cooking your own meals, but late-night snacks or picky eaters are never a problem.
Amapas has some of the most modern kitchens I’ve seen, too. I love being able to walk down to the market, pick up fresh fruit, and whip up something in minutes. Even on vacation, sometimes a home-cooked meal is just the best.

2. Pools the Whole Family Will LOVE
Let’s be real: is it even a vacation without a pool? My kids treat pools like they’re amusement parks, and to be honest, so do I. Every great family-friendly condo in Puerto Vallarta has a pool, and the styles vary, a lot offer big main pools and sometimes smaller, shallow areas for the little ones. Some even boast a heated pool, which makes night swims dreamy.
I especially appreciate the clean water, easy lounging spots, and beautiful tropical landscaping you find around pools in Amapas. Pools are a game-changer. Got a fussy kid? Take them for a dip, their mood will flip in seconds.
3. Fast WiFi and Smart TVs for Chill Time
I’ll be the first to admit: sometimes you just need a little downtime. After a long day exploring the Malecon or hitting Playa Los Muertos, flopping on the couch and turning on a movie is heaven. That’s why reliable high-speed WiFi and modern Smart TVs are non-negotiable for me.
Whether your crew needs to catch up on cartoons, play games, or FaceTime with grandma back home, these hits of modern tech make condo stays so easy and fun. I’ve even managed a few remote work calls from our balcony, thanks to the zippy internet speeds. Definitely add this to your must-have list!
4. Tons of Space: Multiple Bedrooms & Bathrooms
This is a biggie. Ever tried to squeeze an entire family into a single hotel room? Yeah, never again, thanks. Most condos in Old Town and Amapas offer at least two bedrooms and multiple full bathrooms. I have my space, the kids have theirs, and everyone is happy.
The layouts usually feel roomy and airy, with lots of closet space and private balconies. Some feature bunk beds or double beds for siblings, a total lifesaver if you’re traveling with tweens or teens. And, oh, those extra bathrooms? Zero “bathroom line” drama in the morning!

5. Beachfront (or Steps Away!) Locations
This is hands-down my favorite feature. Puerto Vallarta’s walkability means you don’t need a car, and the condos are so close to the beach that you can roll out of bed, have your coffee, and be on the sand in six minutes flat. Seriously!
My top spots are always Amapas and Zona Romantica: the local shops and restaurants are just around the corner, and the vibe is SO relaxed. Ocean views from the balcony send my stress levels plunging. A super quick stroll home after swimming or grabbing ice cream is basically perfection with tired kids.
For effortless convenience, I always recommend looking in these neighborhoods. They truly have the best family-friendly energy in town.
Extra Touches That Make ALL the Difference
Let’s not forget the bonus features you often get in Puerto Vallarta, like:
- Balconies with jaw-dropping ocean views. The sunsets…. SOOO amazing!!!
- Air conditioning in every single room (absolute must in summer).
- In-unit washer & dryer (my personal favorite for longer stays).
- Private parking if you do decide to rent a car.
And honestly? The attention to cleanliness and safety here has always impressed me. I even met the property manager at one spot who gave us all the best kid-friendly restaurant recs: forever grateful for the local tips!

My Top Pick: Amapas (Highly Recommended!)
If you’re on the fence about where to focus your search, do yourself a favor and check the Amapas neighborhood FIRST. It’s safe, central, and sooo close to the best parts of Puerto Vallarta. Every time I rent a family condo there, it just feels like home.
