If you are planning your first trip to Puerto Vallarta, you are in for such an AMAZING treat!
I still remember the first time I landed here.
The humidity hits you like a warm hug, and the smell of salt and street tacos is everywhere.
It is truly my favorite place in the world.
But I know that booking your first stay can feel a little overwhelming.
There are so many options for puerto vallarta condo rentals out over there.
How do you pick the right one?
How do you make sure you aren't stuck in a place that looks nothing like the photos?
I have spent so much time living and breathing this city, so I wanted to share my best tips with you.
I want your first trip to be absolutely perfect!
Location is Everything (Seriously!)
When you start looking, you will see a lot of different neighborhoods mentioned.
You will hear people talk about Old Town and Zona Romantica.
Just so you know, they are actually the same place!
It is the heart of the city where all the magic happens.
If you want to be close to the best food, the best beaches, and the coolest art galleries, this is where you want to be.
But if you want my honest, personal opinion, Amapas is the best place to rent.
It is just a tiny bit south of the main hustle of Old Town.
You get these incredible views of the ocean because you are up on the hillside.
But you are still only a five-minute walk from the beach.
It is quieter and feels a bit more "tucked away" while still being close to everything.
I LOVE staying in Amapas because I can hear the birds in the morning instead of just the city buses.
If you are looking for the absolute best experience, I highly recommend checking out Amapas vacation rentals.
It really changes the whole vibe of your vacation.

Check Your Kitchen and WiFi
One thing I learned the hard way is to always check the kitchen setup.
Some places call themselves a "condo" but they only have a tiny kitchenette with a hot plate.
If you are like me, you are going to want a full kitchen.
The local markets here are SOOO good.
You will find the freshest fruit, amazing avocados, and local shrimp that you will definitely want to cook up yourself.
Also, if you are a solo traveller or a digital nomad, you need to ask about the WiFi.
Most places have great internet now, but it never hurts to double-check.
I always ask for a screenshot of a speed test if I know I have to work while I'm there.
It saves so much stress!
Why You Should Book Early
Puerto Vallarta is not a secret anymore!
Everyone wants to be here, especially during the high season from November to April.
If you wait until the last minute, all the best spots will be gone.
We always tell our friends to book at least six months in advance.
If you are a first-time renter, you might want to look at a puerto vallarta rentals old town to see what the process looks like.
It helps to know what to expect before you put any money down.
Trust me, having your place locked in early is such a relief.

Embrace the Local Life
When you stay in a condo rather than a big hotel, you get to live like a local.
This is my favorite part of renting!
I love walking down to the corner "tiendita" to get a jug of water or some eggs.
The people in Puerto Vallarta are the friendliest you will ever meet.
Make sure you say "Hola" or "Buenos dias" to your neighbors and the building staff.
A little kindness goes a long way here!
If you want to find the real hidden spots, you should read about some puerto vallarta rentals by owner before you arrive.
Knowing which taco stand is the best or which coffee shop has the strongest brew makes you feel like you belong here.
I am so grateful for the friends I have made just by hanging out at the local cafes in Old Town.
Practical Stuff You Need to Know
Drinking the water is a big "no-no" for tourists.
Make sure your condo provides those big jugs of purified water (we call them "garrafones").
Most good rentals will have them ready for you when you check in.
Also, don't worry too much about safety.
Old Town and Amapas are very safe areas.
I walk around by myself all the time and feel totally comfortable.
Just use common sense like you would in any city back home.
Keep your doors locked and don't leave your phone sitting on an outdoor table if you aren't there.
Simple stuff!

Transport and Getting Around
One of the reasons I love Amapas and Zona Romantica so much is that you don't need a car.
You can walk almost everywhere!
The streets are made of cobblestones, so leave the high heels at home.
Trust me on this one, your ankles will thank you.
If you need to go further, Ubers are super cheap and very reliable here.
I use them all the time when I don't feel like walking up the hill in Amapas after a big dinner.
The yellow taxis are also fine, just make sure you agree on the price before you get in.
But honestly, walking through the colorful streets is half the fun!
You see so much more when you are on foot.
Final Recommendation
Puerto Vallarta is a place that stays in your heart long after you leave.
Finding the right condo makes all the difference in the world.
Whether you choose a spot in the middle of the action in Old Town or a peaceful retreat in Amapas, you are going to have a blast.
Just remember to look for those key things: full kitchens, good WiFi, and a great location.
And please, stay in Amapas if you can!
The views of Banderas Bay are something you will never forget.
It is highly recommended for anyone who wants that perfect mix of jungle vibes and ocean breeze.
We can't wait to see you here in paradise!
It is going to be the BEST trip ever!
