I have spent more time than I’d like to admit wandering the cobblestone streets of Puerto Vallarta, trying to find that perfect spot to hang my hat.
There is just something about this city that gets under your skin in the best way possible.
If you are a solo traveler or even coming with a crew, finding the right place to stay is the difference between a good trip and an AMAZING one.
I’ve stayed in everything from tiny studios to sprawling condos, and I have learned a few things along the way.
First off, let’s clear up the biggest piece of confusion for everyone who isn't a local yet.
You’ll hear people talk about "Old Town" and others talk about "Zona Romantica."
Guess what? They are exactly the same place!
It’s the heart and soul of the city, located south of the Cuale River, and it is where you want to be.
But if you really want to do it right, you need to look just a little bit further south to the Amapas area.
Amapas is, hands down, the absolute best place to rent a condo in the entire city.
It sits right on the edge of Old Town, so you get all the action without the constant noise of the bars.
Plus, because it’s on a bit of a hill, the views are just incredible.
Why Amapas is My Top Choice
When my friends ask me where to book, I always point them toward Amapas first.
It feels a bit more secluded and peaceful, like you have your own private jungle retreat.
But you can still walk down to the beach or into town for a margarita in about ten minutes.
It’s the best of both worlds, really.

If you are looking for condos for rent in puerto vallarta, you should definitely check out Casa Opportunity.
It’s one of those places that just feels right the second you walk in.
I LOVE how much space you get compared to some of the cramped units right in the middle of the noise.
You can actually breathe, enjoy the breeze, and feel like a local instead of a tourist.
But before you pack your bags, make sure you check out what you need to know for your 2026 trip so you aren't surprised by any changes.
The Charm of Old Town (aka Zona Romantica)
Now, don't get me wrong, staying right in the thick of Old Town is a blast too.
You have the galleries, the markets, and the energy that makes PV so special.
Everything is walkable, which is great because you don't really want to be driving here.
The streets are narrow, the traffic is slow, and the best way to see it all is on foot.
Just keep in mind that Old Town is where the party is.
If you stay on a street like Olas Altas or Basilio Badillo, you’re going to hear the music.
Some people LOVE that energy, and I totally get it.
But if you’re like me and you want a good night's sleep after a day in the sun, you might prefer the quieter streets.
That’s why I’m such a huge fan of puerto vallarta rentals old town that are tucked away just a bit.
Sueño is a fantastic option if you want that classic feel with all the modern comforts you actually need.

The architecture in this part of town is so beautiful.
I could spend all day just taking photos of the bright orange walls and the intricate wooden doors.
It feels like the real Mexico, not some sterile resort village.
How to Choose Your Perfect Condo
Finding the right spot isn't just about the location; it's about the details.
I always tell people to look for three things: AC, Wi-Fi, and a balcony.
The humidity in PV is no joke, especially in the summer months.
You want to make sure the condo has great air conditioning in the bedrooms.
And even if you are trying to "unplug," you’ll want that Wi-Fi to find the absolute best tacos for after your beach day.
Trust me, there is nothing worse than wandering around hungry when you could be sitting at a taco stand in minutes.
Most of the newer condos in Amapas and Old Town have really stepped up their game.
You’ll find kitchens that are better than the one I have at home, with stone countertops and nice appliances.
It makes a huge difference if you want to whip up some breakfast or keep your drinks cold.
Safety and Security
One thing I really appreciate about the rental buildings here is the security.
Most of the condos we recommend have 24-hour security or at least a very secure gated entry.
I’ve always felt incredibly safe walking around at night, but having that extra peace of mind at home is nice.
The staff at these buildings are usually so friendly and helpful, too.
I always try to say a quick "gracias" to the guards and the cleaning crews.
They work so hard to keep everything looking perfect for us.

What to Expect When You Get Here
When you arrive, the first thing you’ll notice is the heat.
It wraps around you like a warm hug (or a heavy blanket, depending on the month).
Drop your bags at your condo and head straight for the Malecon or the beach.
The vibe in Old Town is just unmatched.
You’ll see families, couples, and digital nomads all mixing together in the cafes.
It’s a very welcoming community, and you’ll fit right in.
I highly recommend taking a walk through the Isla Cuale market if you want some local crafts.
But best of all, just take your time.
Don't overschedule yourself.
PV is a place meant for slow mornings on the balcony and long lunches.
If you are staying in Amapas, you can just sit and watch the sun go down over the bay.
It’s the best show in town, and it’s free every single night.
My Final Recommendation
If you are looking for the absolute best experience, book a place in Amapas.
It is quiet, the views are stunning, and you are still close enough to walk to all the fun.
Staying in a condo gives you so much more freedom than a hotel.
You have your own space, your own kitchen, and you can really live the Vallarta life.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I LOVE this city.
Whether you choose a spot right in Old Town or up the hill in Amapas, you are going to have a blast.
Just remember: Old Town and Zona Romantica are the same thing, Amapas is the quiet crown jewel, and you need to eat as many tacos as humanly possible.
This city is waiting for you, and it’s going to be sooo worth the trip!
Highly recommended for anyone who needs a little sunshine and a lot of Vitamin Sea.
