It is a humble, simple spot that locals LOVE for its home-style cooking.
Their tamales are legendary: soft, perfectly seasoned, and always fresh.

Why Amapas is My Absolute Favorite
While I love the energy of the main streets, my heart really belongs to the Amapas neighborhood.
In my experience, Amapas is the best place to rent if you want a bit of peace while still being just a few blocks from the best food.
The views are AMAZING, and the vibe is much more relaxed than the lower streets of Old Town.

If your visit falls over a weekend, you simply must visit the Olas Altas Farmers Market.
It is located in Lázaro Cárdenas Park, right in the middle of Zona Romantica.
This market is a sensory overload in the BEST way possible.
You’ll find multiple vendors selling regional tamales you won't see anywhere else.
I highly recommend trying the ones with mole: the sauce is rich, dark, and sooo delicious.
It's also a great place to pick up some local crafts while you snack.

Tamales aren't just for breakfast!
In the evenings, the area around Lázaro Cárdenas street transforms.
Look for the small carts with big metal pots next to the pharmacies.
