But best of all? The food! I hope you arrive hungry because the options are honestly endless.
My first stop is almost always the Thai food stand. I know, I know: Thai food in Mexico? But trust me, their chicken pad thai is AMAZING!!
It is cooked right there in front of you in these massive woks, and the flavor is just sooooo authentic. I usually grab a plate and find a spot on a nearby bench to just soak in the morning sun while I eat.
If you aren't in the mood for noodles, you have to try the Spanish paella. The pan is absolutely massive, filled with bright yellow rice, fresh seafood, and perfectly seasoned peppers.
And don't even get me started on the drinks. We always grab a big jar of hibiscus water (agua de jamaica) or fresh-pressed lime juice. It is so refreshing when the humidity starts to kick in.
Finding the Perfect Souvenir
One of the rules of the market is that everything must be "producer-only." This means the person selling the item is the one who made it, baked it, or grew it!
I LOVE this because it means you aren't getting mass-produced junk. You are getting something with a real story behind it.
We have bought some of the most beautiful hand-painted pottery here over the years. The colors are so vibrant and they look so good sitting on a shelf in a modern condo.
If you are a solo traveler looking for a gift for home, the handmade soaps and essential oils are a great choice. They smell like a tropical vacation in a bottle!

If you are staying in the right spot, you can just walk down the hill and be in the middle of it all in five minutes.
