I’ve spent a LOT of time eating my way through Puerto Vallarta.
And if you’re staying in Old Town (Zona Romantica), you’re basically in the middle of the tastiest part of the city.
This is my simple, boots-on-the-ground foodie guide for spots I actually go back to.
And yes… I plan my walks around tacos.
When you book your puerto vallarta old town condo rentals, you aren’t just grabbing a place to crash.
You’re putting yourself within easy walking distance of street stands, seafood counters, and casual little places where the staff remembers you.

How I Eat Like a Local (Without Overthinking It)
I keep it simple.
I go early when I want a chill vibe, and I go later when I want the full Old Town energy.
I carry pesos for quick stops.
And I always drink water between rounds because Vallarta heat is REAL.
If you are a solo traveller, this area is also super easy.
You can hop in, eat at the counter, and roll out happy.
My Must-Try Bites Near Old Town (Zona Romantica)
1) Pancho’s Tacos
This is the classic Old Town taco line.
I’ve stood there sweaty and impatient and STILL felt like it was worth it.
I usually go for al pastor.
It’s fast, it’s smoky, and it hits every time.
Practical tip: go a little earlier if you hate waiting.
2) Joe Jack’s Fish Shack
When I want something casual where I can sit down and hang out, this is it.
I’ve had fish and chips here more than once, and I’m not mad about it.
And their ginger mojitos are dangerous in the best way.
Practical tip: this is a great “reset” spot when you’ve been walking all day.
3) Mariscos Cisneros
If you want that real local seafood feel, this is a must.
The flavors are straight-up Vallarta.
I’m usually going for whatever looks freshest, and I keep it simple.
Practical tip: go hungry and don’t be afraid to ask what they recommend today.
Where You Stay Matters (Because Food Is a Walkable Sport)
One of my favorite parts of eating around here is that you don’t need a big plan.
You just walk, follow your nose, and stop when something looks good.
And finding the right puerto vallarta rentals condo makes that SO much easier, because you can drop off your beach stuff, rinse off, and go right back out for round two.
Old Town/Zona Romantica is the center of the action.
But best of all, I still think Amapas is the BEST place to rent.
You’re close enough to walk down for tacos, but you get a quieter home base when you’re ready to crash.

My Clear Recommendation
If you want a trip where you can walk to amazing food all day and keep things simple, staying near Old Town is highly recommended.
And if you want the BEST balance—easy food access, calmer nights, and that little extra breathing room—Amapas is highly recommended by me every time!!!
