I've stayed in both hotels and condos in Puerto Vallarta, and I can tell you right now that condos win almost every time.

A lot of condos in PV come with access to pools, gyms, and even concierge services.
You get the amenities you want without paying ridiculous daily resort fees. Some condo buildings have rooftop lounges, BBQ areas, and beach access.
And if you want extra services, many property managers can arrange private chefs, yacht charters, or guided tours. You get the luxury experience with way more flexibility and personalization.
Where to Actually Stay
Not all areas are created equal.
I always recommend staying in Zona Romantica (also called Old Town), or if you really want the best views and vibe, go for Amapas.
Amapas is hands-down the best neighborhood for condo rentals in my opinion. You're up in the hills with incredible ocean views, but you're still close enough to walk down to the beach and restaurants. It feels more private and residential, but you're not isolated.
Zona Romantica is perfect if you want to be right in the middle of everything: beaches, restaurants, nightlife. It's walkable and energetic.
Both neighborhoods give you that authentic PV experience you can't get from a beachfront hotel tower.
The Bottom Line
Look, hotels have their place. If you're just passing through for one night or you want someone to make your bed and bring you towels every day, sure, book a hotel.
But if you're actually vacationing in Puerto Vallarta: if you want space, privacy, freedom, and a real connection to the place: a condo is the way to go.
You'll save money. You'll feel more at home. And you'll have a way better experience overall.
I've done both, and I'm never going back to cramped hotel rooms when I can have my own place with a kitchen, a view, and room to actually enjoy my vacation.
