I have spent plenty of time working remotely in Puerto Vallarta, and Amapas is still my favorite area for combining focused work with relaxed couple time. The neighborhood gives us a quieter home base above Zona Romántica, while cafés, restaurants, the beach, and local streets are all within an easy walk downhill.
For us, the key is choosing the right café for the type of work we need to do. A quick email session does not require the same setup as a video call, and two people taking meetings at the same time need more than a pretty table.
Here are the Amapas café choices I return to when we want coffee, reliable internet, and a pleasant place to spend time together.
El Sofa Café for a relaxed shared work session
El Sofa Café is one of my favorite choices when we want a comfortable place to work side by side without making the day feel too formal.
The space has a cozy feel and enough table room for two laptops, coffee, and a notebook. I like it for checking messages, planning our day, writing, and taking one or two calls. Reported connection speeds are around 18 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload, which is generally enough for ordinary video meetings and screen sharing.
I would not choose it for a full day of back-to-back meetings, especially if both of us need to speak often. But for a couple who wants to work for an hour or two and then walk somewhere for lunch, it is a very good fit.
The best time for a call is usually late morning or during a quieter afternoon period. We keep our voices low, order regularly, and avoid taking up a large table when the café is busy.
Outpost or Playroom PV when both of us have calls
When we have overlapping meetings, I prefer a more structured work setting. Outpost or Playroom PV is a stronger option because it has a coworking feel along with café energy.
The high-speed fiber connection is the main reason I choose it for important calls. The environment feels more professional, so I can concentrate on a presentation without worrying about every sound around me.
This is also a practical choice if one person has a video meeting while the other is answering messages, preparing a document, or taking another call. We bring headphones, sit with enough space between us, and agree on our meeting blocks before arriving.
For digital nomads, this type of café-coworking space can make a big difference. It gives us a dependable place to work without spending the entire day inside the condo.

The Coffee Cup for air-conditioned focus
The Coffee Cup is a useful choice when we want indoor comfort and air conditioning. On warm days, this matters more than a stylish view.
The seating is laptop-friendly, and the complimentary Wi-Fi works well for email, planning, and most standard calls. I find it especially helpful when we need a quiet block of concentrated work but do not want to stay in our condo.
For a couple, I recommend choosing a table along the side rather than the busiest central area. That gives us a little more privacy and makes it easier to hear one another during a call.
This café works well for a simple routine: arrive with a short list of tasks, order coffee, complete the important work, and leave before either of us starts treating the table like a permanent office.
Dee’s Coffee Company for light work and conversation
Dee’s Coffee Company has a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable tables that suit lighter work. I like it when we want to combine a coffee break with a little laptop time and conversation.
The Wi-Fi is generally considered reliable, and the setting is friendly without feeling overly formal. It is a good place for email, documents, travel planning, and a short call.
Because the café can have more surrounding conversation, I use headphones for meetings. If I need complete quiet, I choose Outpost instead. If I want to work while still chatting with my partner and watching the neighborhood move around us, Dee’s is more enjoyable.
The staff have always added to the experience. A friendly greeting and a well-made coffee can make a regular workday feel much more connected to Puerto Vallarta.
A Page in the Sun for creative couple time
A Page in the Sun combines a café, bookstore, and gallery, so it feels different from a standard coffee shop. It is one of my favorite places for creative work, trip planning, reading, and writing.
The Wi-Fi is strong enough for regular laptop work, but I usually save important client calls for a quieter location. The atmosphere is better suited to thoughtful tasks than constant meetings.
This is where my partner and I might spend an hour organizing photos, making a restaurant list, or planning a day away from our laptops. We can work independently while still sharing the same table and talking between tasks.
For couples, that balance is valuable. We do not always want to sit silently in separate work zones. Sometimes the best part of working together is being able to pause, share an idea, and enjoy the setting.

Palma Café for an early focused block
Palma Café is a smaller specialty coffee shop close to Amapas. I like it for a focused work block when I want a calm table and good coffee without committing to a long café session.
Connection reports place the internet around 30 Mbps, which is suitable for documents, messages, and ordinary online work. However, video calls can slow down during busy periods, so I avoid using it for an important presentation unless I have already tested the connection.
For two people, the best approach is to arrive earlier in the day, share a table, and keep the visit focused. One person can work while the other reads or handles lighter tasks.
It is not the café I choose for a demanding call schedule, but it is excellent for a quiet change of scene.
Puerto Café for one concentrated hour
Puerto Café is smaller and more focused on coffee. I use it when I need one concentrated hour to finish a task, review a document, or answer messages.
The baristas are friendly, and the space has a local feel that makes a short visit enjoyable. It is not the place where I would plan several long calls, but it works well when I have one clear goal.
My favorite café routine is to decide the task before leaving the condo. That way, I can order, work, and finish without turning a short break into an unfocused afternoon.
How we choose between cafés and the condo
Amapas is the best place to rent for this kind of trip because we can move easily between private work time and the café scene. We use cafés when we need a change of setting, but a good condo remains important for calls that require privacy.
Casa Vizcarra 1 is a compact studio option with high-speed Wi-Fi, an Ethernet port, air conditioning, a queen-size bed, a kitchen, and a location close to the Rio Cuale and the beach area. Those details are useful for a couple who wants a practical base near the activity while still having a dedicated place to recharge.
For our own Amapas routine, we look for a table or counter where one person can work without blocking the kitchen or living space. We also check the Wi-Fi as soon as we arrive, keep a phone hotspot available, and use headphones for meetings.
Before booking, I suggest deciding how many calls you expect to take, whether both people will work at the same time, and whether you need Ethernet access. Those small details can shape the entire stay.
My simple Amapas café plan
For a normal workday, I would start with Palma Café or Puerto Café for a short focused session. I would choose El Sofa Café when we want shared laptop time and a relaxed atmosphere.
If both of us have important calls, I would use Outpost or Playroom PV. For air-conditioned concentration, The Coffee Cup is a dependable choice. For reading, writing, or planning our next Puerto Vallarta adventure, A Page in the Sun is hard to beat.
But best of all, Amapas lets us stop working without a complicated commute. We can close the laptops, walk through the colorful streets, and return to a comfortable condo when we are ready for a quieter evening.
