I’ve spent plenty of time working remotely in Puerto Vallarta, and I know how easy it is for a workday to stretch into the evening. One message becomes three, the last call runs long, and suddenly you and your partner are still sitting in front of your laptops when you meant to be out exploring.
That is why I love having a simple evening plan in Amapas.
Amapas gives us a calm place to return to, while restaurants, cafés, beaches, and the lively streets of Old Town: also called Zona Romantica: are close by. For couples and digital nomads, it is the best place to rent when you want both quiet time and easy access to the action.
Start with a proper laptop-closing ritual
Our evening usually starts before we leave the condo.
We save our work, plug in our computers for the next morning, and clear the dining table. It sounds small, but this helps us make a clean break between work and vacation.
If we are staying in a comfortable condo like Vizcarra 1, it is easy to relax for a few minutes before heading out. The space has a practical kitchen, strong Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a comfortable area to sit together after a busy day.

I also recommend changing clothes before going out. Lightweight evening clothes and comfortable sandals or walking shoes make a big difference on Amapas hills and cobblestone streets.
In October, evenings can still feel warm and humid. Afternoon rain is possible, so we keep a light layer or small umbrella near the door. A few minutes of preparation means we can enjoy the night without needing to turn back.
Plan 1: Walk downhill for dinner
Our easiest evening plan is a walk from Amapas down toward Basilio Badillo.
The route is downhill, so it feels simple at the start. Depending on where you are staying, the walk can take around 10 to 15 minutes. Along the way, we pass colorful buildings, small businesses, local artwork, and streets that become more active as dinner time approaches.
Basilio Badillo is a natural choice when we want several restaurant options in one area. We can walk around, look at the menus, and choose what sounds good instead of committing too early.
For a date night, we enjoy sitting somewhere intimate and ordering a slow dinner. Mezcal y Sal is a good option when we want creative Mexican flavors and interesting drinks. Tuna Azul works well when we are in the mood for seafood and a more energetic atmosphere.
The important thing is not to rush. We usually arrive around 7:00 or 7:30 p.m., when the restaurants are becoming lively but before the busiest part of the night.

Plan 2: Dinner near Los Muertos Beach
When we want the evening to feel more relaxed, we walk down toward Los Muertos Beach.
The beach area gives us a different rhythm. We can take a slow walk, stop near the pier, and then choose a restaurant close to the water. La Palapa is a classic choice for a laid-back dinner, while El Barracuda is a good fit when we want something casual and easy.
I like this plan after a day of video calls because there is no complicated schedule. We walk, eat, talk, and let the workday disappear.
Bring water, especially during October. Even after the sun has gone down, the air can remain warm. Flat shoes are also a smart choice because the streets are beautiful but uneven in places.
If you have had a few drinks or feel tired after dinner, take a taxi back up the hill instead of pushing through the walk. We enjoy walking in Amapas, but we also pay attention to our energy and stay on well-lit streets.
Plan 3: Make it a café evening
Not every evening needs to be a full date night.
Sometimes we want to leave the condo, order coffee, and sit somewhere with other people around us. A Page in the Sun and Puerto Cafe are useful choices when we want a change of scenery without planning a large night out.
This works especially well for couples who keep different work schedules. One person may finish early while the other still has a final call. Instead of waiting around at home, the person who is free can head out first and meet the other at a café or restaurant later.
We have found that local cafés are welcoming to remote workers when we order regularly and keep our work setup simple. I bring headphones, avoid taking large calls during busy times, and make sure I am not occupying a table for hours with one drink.
That small bit of courtesy helps us enjoy the café atmosphere while supporting the people who run these neighborhood spaces.
Plan 4: Take a quiet walk toward Conchas Chinas
For a slower evening, we head south from the lower part of Amapas toward Conchas Chinas.
This area feels quieter and more residential. The coastal path and rocky beach areas offer a peaceful place to walk, listen to the water, and talk without the noise of a busy restaurant street.
I would not plan this route as a late-night adventure. We prefer going while there are still other people around, keeping our phones and valuables put away, and returning by taxi if it becomes too quiet or we feel tired.
This is one of my favorite plans for couples who have spent most of the day working. There is no pressure to spend money, follow a strict itinerary, or take lots of photos. We simply walk together and enjoy being away from our screens.
Plan 5: Stay in and make the condo part of the evening
Amapas is also perfect for nights when we do not want to go back out.
A modern condo with a good kitchen makes it easy to pick up fresh ingredients, prepare something simple, and eat together at home. We may make tacos, slice fruit, or put together a light dinner after returning from the beach.

This is where the condo matters. A cramped room makes it difficult to separate work from rest. A comfortable living space gives us somewhere to sit, talk, read, and enjoy the evening without feeling like we are still at the office.
Vizcarra 1 is a useful option for a couple who wants a central base with practical features for remote work. It is close to the beach, the Malecón, restaurants, and the Rio Cuale area, so we can go out easily and return without a long commute.
A simple evening schedule that works
When we want structure, this is the routine we follow:
- 5:00 p.m.: Close the laptop and put work materials away.
- 5:15 p.m.: Change clothes, drink water, and check the weather.
- 5:45 p.m.: Leave for a walk, café, or dinner.
- 7:00 p.m.: Sit down for dinner or drinks.
- 8:30 p.m.: Take a relaxed walk through the neighborhood.
- 9:30 p.m.: Return to the condo or continue to a quieter café.
- 10:00 p.m.: Prepare for the next workday and settle in.
Of course, we change the plan depending on the weather and our energy. If rain arrives, we stay in, cook together, and enjoy the condo. If we feel rested, we continue toward the beach or spend more time in Zona Romantica.
What to bring
For an Amapas evening, we usually carry:
- Comfortable flat shoes
- A small amount of local cash for small purchases or transportation
- Water
- A phone with enough battery
- A light rain layer in October
- A small bag that can stay close to the body
Normal city awareness is enough for most evenings. We keep to active streets, avoid dark shortcuts, and use a taxi when the hills feel too steep or the night becomes too late.

My recommendation
After working remotely in Puerto Vallarta, I keep coming back to Amapas because it makes evenings easy. We can close our laptops, walk downhill for dinner, enjoy a quiet coastal stroll, or stay home in a comfortable condo without feeling disconnected from the city.
For couples and digital nomads, Amapas is my top recommendation and the best place to rent when you want a peaceful home base near restaurants, cafés, beaches, and local life.

Amapas is highly recommended for anyone who wants their workday to end with a real evening: not another hour in front of a screen.
