I have spent plenty of time working remotely in Puerto Vallarta, and I know rainy days can change your plans quickly. In Amapas, though, a storm does not have to interrupt your trip.
For couples and digital nomads, rain can create a slower, more comfortable rhythm. You can finish a few work tasks, share a long lunch, explore a covered market, and still feel like you are enjoying Puerto Vallarta.
Amapas is my favorite place to rent for this kind of trip. The hillside setting feels peaceful, while Old Town and Zona Romantica are close enough for cafés, markets, galleries, restaurants, and indoor activities.
Start with a comfortable work setup
The best rainy-day plan starts at your condo. If you and your partner both need to work, a comfortable interior makes a huge difference.
Casa Hummingbird has a dedicated desk, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a one-bedroom layout for two guests. That gives one person a proper place to take calls while the other works from the dining table or living area.

Before your first workday, test the Wi-Fi, check your chargers, and decide how you will share the space. We usually set a simple schedule: calls and focused work in the morning, lunch together, and lighter tasks during the afternoon rain.
Noise can also change when storms arrive. Keep headphones nearby if you have meetings, and close the windows during heavy rain. The sound of tropical rain is relaxing, but it can make video calls difficult.
I also like keeping a small work basket nearby with notebooks, adapters, pens, and a backup power bank. That way, we do not waste time searching through luggage when the weather turns.
Make the condo kitchen part of the experience
A rainy day is a perfect excuse to shop for fresh ingredients and cook together.
The local market near Old Town is easy to reach from Amapas, although the steep streets can become slippery during a downpour. If the rain is light, go earlier in the day and bring a small bag for mangoes, tomatoes, limes, cilantro, and fresh tortillas.
Then come back to the condo and make something simple. Mango salsa, shrimp tacos, guacamole, or a warm soup can turn an ordinary work break into one of the best parts of your trip.

I love having a real kitchen when we travel because cooking gives us time together without needing a full evening plan. One person can chop while the other prepares drinks or sets the table.
For a practical recipe idea, read our guide to cooking with fresh market ingredients. It includes simple ideas that work well in a condo kitchen.
The kitchen at Hummingbird also gives you room to spread out ingredients, use the appliances, and clean up without feeling cramped. That matters when one person needs to return to work after lunch.
Plan a café work session
If you need a change of scenery, choose a café with indoor seating and reliable Wi-Fi. I prefer going during a lighter rain instead of waiting for the heaviest part of the storm.
Bring only what you need: your laptop, charger, headphones, and a small notebook. A compact setup makes it easier to move tables or leave quickly if the rain intensifies.
A café can work well for email, writing, planning, and other tasks that do not require private calls. For meetings, our condo is usually more comfortable and dependable.
Make the outing feel like a date instead of another work obligation. Order something local, share a pastry, and take a short break between tasks. Even forty-five minutes away from your normal workspace can reset your mood.
If you need a quieter indoor option, look for a library, gallery, or covered shopping area. The important thing is to stay flexible. Rainfall in Puerto Vallarta can be brief, or it can continue for several hours.
Take a covered market walk
One of my favorite rainy-day couple activities is visiting the covered markets around Old Town and the Río Cuale area.
You can browse textiles, handmade jewelry, Talavera tiles, woven bags, small decorations, and local food without needing a full outdoor itinerary. The colors are especially cheerful on a gray day.

Give yourselves a small challenge. Each person can choose one useful item for the condo or workspace. A colorful ceramic cup, woven coaster, or small textile can make your temporary home feel more personal.
Read our guide to unique market textiles and décor before you go. It includes practical suggestions about shopping respectfully, carrying fragile items, and finding pieces with local character.
Wear shoes that can handle wet pavement, and carry a light rain jacket or poncho. Hillside streets can become slick, so take your time and use a taxi for the steepest parts if needed.
Book an indoor activity together
Rainy days are also a good time to book something hands-on.
Cooking classes, chocolate workshops, coffee tastings, and art sessions give you a shared experience without depending on the weather. I especially like activities where you learn something useful or get to enjoy a local ingredient.
A cooking class can also inspire your next condo meal. You may learn how to prepare a salsa, use local spices, or combine ingredients you had not considered before.
If you prefer something slower, visit an art gallery or museum near the Malecón. You can spend an hour or two indoors and then stop for lunch when the rain eases.
Spas and wellness studios are another practical choice for couples. A massage, facial, or quiet treatment can help after several busy workdays. Make the appointment in the morning because rainy days can fill up quickly.
Use the storm as a real break
Digital nomads often feel pressure to keep working just because the laptop is nearby. I understand that feeling, but a workcation needs actual time off.
When the rain becomes heavy, close the laptop and watch the weather from inside. Make coffee, play cards, listen to music, or take a nap. A condo with a comfortable living area makes these small breaks feel natural.

Couples can also create a simple “storm menu.” Pick one movie, one snack, and one meal to make together. It sounds basic, but these are often the moments we remember most.
If the weather clears, take a short walk through Amapas or down toward Zona Romantica. If the streets are still wet, stay close to the condo and enjoy the cooler air instead.
Build a flexible two-day plan
Here is the rainy-day schedule I would use:
Morning: Work from the condo while the day is quiet. Take calls, answer messages, and finish the tasks that need the most focus.
Midday: Cook lunch together or visit a nearby café. Keep this break long enough to feel like a real pause.
Afternoon: Choose one indoor activity. Visit a covered market, take a cooking or chocolate class, browse a gallery, or book a wellness treatment.
Evening: Return to the condo for dinner, a movie, and relaxed conversation.
The next day, switch the order. Spend the morning at a market or class if the forecast looks better, then reserve the afternoon for focused work indoors.
Do not plan too many activities. One main outing is enough when the weather is unpredictable, and you will enjoy it more if you are not rushing.
Choose Amapas for the home base
For couples combining vacation time with remote work, Amapas offers the balance I want most: peaceful surroundings, useful condo spaces, and quick access to the food, markets, galleries, and cafés of Old Town and Zona Romantica.
Hummingbird is a practical fit for two adults who want a dedicated workspace, a full kitchen, air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, and a partial ocean view. The building also has stairs, so keep the hillside setting in mind when packing and planning your daily walks.
A rainy Puerto Vallarta trip can be productive, romantic, and surprisingly relaxing. With a flexible schedule and a comfortable condo, the weather becomes part of the experience instead of a problem.
