I have spent years working and traveling in Puerto Vallarta, and Amapas is my favorite place to slow down without feeling disconnected from the city.
For couples and digital nomads, a reset day here can make a big difference. You still handle the work that matters, but you also create space to walk, eat well, talk, and enjoy the reason you came to Mexico in the first place.
Amapas works especially well because it sits above the lively streets of Old Town, also known as Zona Romantica. You are close to cafés, Los Muertos Beach, restaurants, and shops, but your condo can still feel calm when you need to focus.
Here is how I would plan a simple Amapas reset day for two.
Start with a calm work block
I like to begin a reset day at home rather than rushing straight out. A quiet morning gives us time to finish important tasks before the fun part of the day begins.
Before opening our laptops, we decide what absolutely needs to get done. We do not try to complete an entire week of work in one morning. Instead, we choose two or three priority tasks and set a clear stopping time.
A good first block might run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. One person can work at the desk while the other uses the dining table or a comfortable chair. If one of you has meetings, headphones and a simple quiet-hours agreement make the arrangement much easier.

I always recommend testing the Wi-Fi before an important call. Open a video meeting, upload a small file, and check whether the connection stays steady in the room where you plan to work.
A backup mobile hotspot is also smart for digital nomads. It may never be needed, but having one nearby removes a lot of stress.
The best part is that you do not need to sacrifice the feeling of being on vacation. Open the curtains, make coffee, and let the green hillside views become part of the workday.
Take a real breakfast break
Once the first work block ends, close the laptops completely.
This is where couples can make the day feel different from an ordinary remote-work routine. Walk downhill together toward Zona Romantica and choose a café for coffee and breakfast.
The walk from Amapas can involve hills and cobblestones, so comfortable shoes are important. I prefer to take my time instead of treating the walk like a commute.
Order something simple, such as eggs, chilaquiles, fruit, or a pastry. Keep the conversation away from email and deadlines if you can. Talk about what you want to do with the rest of the day.
That small boundary helps us switch from work mode to vacation mode.
If you would rather stay in, a condo with a well-equipped kitchen gives you another easy option. Make breakfast together, play music, and sit somewhere away from the desk. Even a 30-minute meal feels special when you are not eating beside an open laptop.
Use the beach as a screen-free reset
After breakfast, walk toward Los Muertos Beach.
From the lower part of Amapas, the beach is often around a 10- to 15-minute walk, depending on your exact location. The return walk is uphill, so plan your energy accordingly. If the heat is strong or your legs are tired, take a taxi back later.
The goal is not to fill this time with an activity. Walk along the sand, sit near the water, read a few pages, or simply watch the boats.
Leave your phones in your bag for at least 30 minutes. That one choice can make the reset feel much more complete.

For couples, this is also a good time to check in with each other. Ask simple questions:
- What part of the workcation has felt best so far?
- Is either person feeling overbooked?
- What would make the next few days easier?
- Do we want more activity or more quiet?
These conversations are much easier when neither person is looking at a screen.
Keep lunch easy and unhurried
A reset day is not the right time to plan a complicated restaurant tour.
Choose one casual place near the beach or in Zona Romantica. Share a few dishes, order cold drinks, and allow enough time to enjoy the meal without checking the clock every few minutes.
I like having one clear plan for lunch and leaving the rest open. Puerto Vallarta has plenty of places to discover, but a reset day should not feel like a checklist.
If you want to return to the condo, pick up fresh ingredients and prepare something simple. A salad, tacos, sandwiches, or fruit with local snacks can be enough. The point is to make the afternoon feel easy.
Add one gentle afternoon activity
After lunch, choose only one activity.
That might be a massage, a quiet gallery visit, a slow walk through the colorful streets, or an hour with a book on the balcony. Amapas makes this easy because you can reach the energy of Old Town without staying in the busiest part of it.

For couples working across different time zones, the afternoon can also include a short admin block. Limit it to 60 or 90 minutes.
Use that time for email replies, calendar planning, expense notes, and any small task that will otherwise stay in your head all evening. Set a timer, finish what you can, and stop when it rings.
Do not turn the light admin block into another full workday.
Make the condo part of the experience
One reason I prefer Amapas for a workcation is that the condo itself can support both focus and rest.
A comfortable desk, reliable Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a proper kitchen, filtered drinking water, and a quiet bedroom all matter. A balcony is especially helpful because it gives you a place to step away without leaving home.

Sueño and The Nest are good examples of the kind of names couples may come across while exploring rental options. When you compare places, look beyond attractive photos and check the details that affect your actual routine.
Ask these questions before booking:
- Is the Wi-Fi suitable for video calls?
- Is there a comfortable desk or table?
- Is the bedroom separate from the main work area?
- How far is the condo from the beach and cafés?
- Are there steep hills or many stairs on the route?
- Is the building entrance secure?
- Does the unit have air conditioning in the bedroom?
- Is there a washing machine for longer stays?
Amapas is the best place to rent when you want quiet surroundings, modern spaces, and easy access to Old Town and Zona Romantica. Just remember that the hills are part of the neighborhood. Pack supportive shoes and plan your walks with the heat in mind.
End the day with a simple couple ritual
When work is finished, put the laptops away completely.
Take a shower, change into comfortable clothes, and make a small snack or drink. Then sit together somewhere that is not your work area.
We like choosing one question to discuss, such as “What was your favorite moment today?” It sounds simple, but it helps mark the end of the workday.
You could also walk through Zona Romantica, browse a few shops, visit a gallery, or choose a relaxed dinner. There is no need to fit in a major tour. The reset comes from having enough time to notice where you are.
Before bed, prepare the next workday. Charge your devices, refill your water bottle, check your calendar, and decide when the first work block will end. This takes only a few minutes and makes the next morning much smoother.
A practical reset-day schedule
Here is the routine I would use:
- 8:30–11:00 a.m.: Focused work and important calls
- 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Walk downhill and have breakfast
- 12:30–2:00 p.m.: Beach walk and screen-free time
- 2:00–3:30 p.m.: Casual lunch
- 3:30–4:30 p.m.: Optional light admin block
- 4:30–6:00 p.m.: One gentle activity or condo downtime
- After 6:00 p.m.: Shower, dinner, and relaxed couple time
You can adjust the hours around your clients and time zone. The important part is the balance: one focused work block, one short admin period, and plenty of unplanned time.
Final thoughts
Amapas gives couples a wonderful middle ground. You can stay productive without living in work mode, and you can enjoy Puerto Vallarta without packing every hour with plans.
For a calm base, I would choose Amapas over a noisier location in the center. The hillside setting, nearby beach, colorful streets, and modern condo spaces make it especially well suited to digital nomads who want to reconnect with their partner during a busy workcation.
A reset day here is highly recommended. It helps you finish the work that matters, enjoy the city more fully, and return home feeling refreshed instead of exhausted.
