I have spent a lot of time in different condos across Puerto Vallarta, and I have to tell you something.
The kitchen is always the heart of the home for me!
When we first started looking for puerto vallarta mexico condo rentals, I didn't realize how much the design of the kitchen would change my whole vacation vibe.
In many places, the kitchen is just a utility room where you make coffee.
But here in Vallarta, especially in the Old Town and Zona Romantica areas, the kitchen is where all the soul is kept.
It is colorful, it is warm, and it just makes you want to hang out and talk for hours.
I LOVE how the traditional styles mix with modern life in these spaces.
The Magic of Talavera Tiles
The first thing you notice when you walk into a traditional Vallarta kitchen is the tile work.
It is SOOO beautiful and bright.
Talavera tiles are hand-painted and they come in every color of the rainbow, but mostly you see deep cobalt blues, sunny yellows, and earthy oranges.
Every single tile is a little bit different because they are made by hand.
I spent one whole morning just looking at the patterns in my kitchen backsplash because each one felt like a tiny piece of art.

Using these tiles makes the whole room feel alive and happy.
It isn't like those cold, all-white kitchens you see in magazines back home.
It is rich and textured and feels like the real Mexico.
If you are a solo traveller, having a kitchen this bright and cheery really makes your mornings feel special.
I highly recommend looking for a place that has these traditional touches because it makes a huge difference in how you feel when you wake up.
Modern Living with Traditional Style
You might think that "traditional" means old or hard to use, but that isn't the case at all in our condo and apartment rentals puerto vallarta.
Most of these condos have been updated to have everything you need!
I’m talking about big refrigerators, modern blenders for your morning smoothies, and great stovetops.
But they keep the traditional soul by using dark wood cabinets and wrought iron hardware.
The contrast between a shiny stainless steel fridge and a wall of hand-painted tiles is just AMAZING.
We stayed in a place recently where the kitchen was totally open to the living area.
It made it so easy to chat with my friends while I was cutting up fresh mangoes from the market.
Speaking of markets, you should definitely check out our guide to the secrets of Amapas if you want to find the best spots to hang out near your rental.
Bringing the Outside In
In Puerto Vallarta, we love to use natural materials.
I see a lot of granite and stone being used for countertops now, which is great because it stays cool even when it’s hot outside.
But the best part is always the textiles.
We always have these thick, woven runners on the dining tables and colorful napkins that match the tiles.

It adds another layer of warmth to the room.
I’m also a big fan of the local pottery you find in the shops around town.
I always buy a few clay pots or a hand-painted pitcher to keep on the counter.
It makes the space feel like it’s mine, even if I’m only there for a week.

Why Amapas is My Favorite
I have to be honest with you – while I love Old Town and Zona Romantica, Amapas is the absolute best place to rent.
It is just a little bit higher up the hill, so you get these great breezes while you are cooking.
The condos in Amapas often have these really large, open kitchens that feel very airy and modern.
But they still stick to the traditional motifs that make Vallarta so special.
I find that the kitchens in Amapas tend to be a bit more spacious, which is perfect if you like to cook your own meals.
And trust me, after you see the fresh produce at the local markets, you will want to cook!
I want to give a huge thank you to Juan at the local market for always helping me pick the best avocados.
And a big shout out to our cleaning team who keeps these kitchens sparkling clean and ready for us every time we arrive.
My Final Recommendation
If you are coming to Puerto Vallarta, don’t just settle for a generic hotel room with a tiny microwave.
Get a condo with a real kitchen!
Look for those beautiful tiles, the warm wood, and the hand-painted details.
It makes the whole experience feel so much more authentic and comfortable.

It really is the soul of the home.
I highly recommend staying in the Amapas area for the best mix of tradition and comfort.
You will absolutely LOVE waking up and making your coffee in a space that feels this good.
It’s the best way to start every single day of your vacation!
