I have spent a lot of time wandering the cobblestone streets of Puerto Vallarta.
Honestly, I think I’ve walked every single inch of Old Town by now.
If you are looking for a place to stay, you’ve probably heard people talking about Old Town or Zona Romantica.
They are actually the same place, and it is the absolute heart of the city.
It is where the magic happens, where the tacos are hot, and where the vibes are always high.
But if you are a beginner, booking a place can feel a little bit like a wild guessing game.
You want the view, you want the location, and you definitely don't want to end up in a noisy spot that looks nothing like the photos.
That is why I am writing this for you.
We want you to have the BEST time possible without any of the stress.
Why Old Town is the Place to Be
Old Town is where you find the soul of PV.
It is south of the Rio Cuale, and it is packed with personality.
You’ve got the red-tiled roofs, the whitewashed walls, and flowers everywhere.
It is super walkable, which is a huge plus if you hate driving on vacation.
You can walk to the beach, walk to dinner, and walk to get your morning coffee.
But because it’s so popular, you have to be smart about where exactly you put your bags down.
Some spots are right in the middle of the party zone, which is GREAT if you never sleep.
But if you want a little bit of peace, you have to look just a tiny bit further.

The Secret Spot: Why Amapas is the Best
If you ask me, Amapas is the absolute gold mine of the area.
It sits just slightly elevated and just south of the main hustle of Zona Romantica.
It is quiet, it is lush, and the views are UNREAL.
You are still only a five or ten-minute walk from the beach and the bars.
But when you get back to your rental, it feels like a private jungle oasis.
I always tell my friends to look in Amapas first because you get the best of both worlds.
You get the proximity to the fun without the 2:00 AM street noise.
It is easily the best place to rent in the whole city, no question about it.
Finding Your Perfect Puerto Vallarta Condo Rental
When you start searching, you are going to see a lot of options.
It can be overwhelming, I know.
If you want a puerto vallarta condo rental that feels like home, you have to look for the details.
Check for things like updated kitchens and comfortable seating.
You really want a place that has a personality, not a sterile hotel room vibe.
We love properties that show off the local art and the colorful culture of Mexico.
Look for those bright tiles and the big windows that let all that beautiful Pacific light in.
It makes a huge difference when you wake up in the morning and see the blue ocean right there.

Don't Get Fooled by the Big Guys
A lot of people go straight to the giant booking websites and just click "reserve."
That is a total beginner mistake!
Often, those sites are run by big corporate machines that don't know a taco from a tostada.
They don't know if the street outside is under construction or if the neighbors are loud.
Booking through local experts is so much better because we actually live here.
We know which units have the best breezes and which ones have the most comfortable beds.
Plus, you get that personal touch that makes a vacation feel special.

What to Look for Inside Your Condo
You are going to spend a lot of time on your balcony, trust me.
In PV, the balcony is basically your second living room.
You want a space where you can sit with a drink and watch the sunset.

Inside, make sure the kitchen is actually functional.
Even if you plan on eating out every night (and you should, the food here is AMAZING), you’ll want a spot for cold drinks and snacks.
Check for things like a good coffee maker and a big fridge.
Also, look at the bedroom setup.
You want a cozy spot to crash after a long day of exploring the Malecón or hiking to Las Animas.
We have seen some condo rentals puerto vallarta that are just so perfectly designed, you might not even want to leave the room.
But please do leave, because there is so much to see!
Practical Booking Tips for Beginners
First off, book early.
The good spots in Amapas and Old Town fill up months in advance, especially for the high season.
If you see something you LOVE, grab it.
Second, think about your mobility.
Old Town is full of hills and stairs: that’s how you get those killer views!
If you aren't a fan of walking uphill, make sure you pick a spot that is lower down or easy to access by taxi.
Third, read the reviews but take them with a grain of salt.
Look for patterns: if everyone says the bed is amazing, it probably is.

Living Like a Local
One of the best things about staying in a condo instead of a hotel is the local vibe.
You can go to the market, buy some fresh fruit, and feel like you actually live here.
You’ll start to recognize your neighbors and the guys at the corner store.
It is a much more authentic way to experience Mexico.
You get to see the real Puerto Vallarta, not just the tourist version.
And being in Old Town means you are steps away from the best galleries and boutiques.
I love waking up early and walking down to the beach before the crowds arrive.
The air is fresh, the ocean is calm, and it is just peaceful.
Why We Love Amapas Specifically
I really can't say enough good things about Amapas.
It’s where the jungle meets the sea.
You get these incredible tropical bird sounds in the morning.
It feels a bit more "grown-up" than the very center of the party zone.
If you are a solo traveler or a couple looking for a romantic escape, it is perfect.
The architecture in Amapas is also really cool.
You get a mix of traditional Mexican style and modern design.
It makes for some really great photos to show everyone back home!

Wrap It Up and Book Your Trip!
Puerto Vallarta is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
The people are friendly, the food is delicious, and the weather is almost always perfect.
Don't let the booking process stress you out.
Just remember to stick to Old Town or Amapas, and prioritize those views!
I highly recommend staying in Amapas if you want the best possible experience.
It’s my favorite part of the city for a reason.
We are so excited for you to get here and see it all for yourself.
