We have traveled to Puerto Vallarta with our family more times than I can count.
And every single trip, the kids find something new to love.
This beach town on Mexico's Pacific coast is basically built for families. The people are warm. The beaches are beautiful. And the activities? Endless.
Let me share our top five family-friendly activities that you absolutely cannot miss on your next trip.
1. Swim With Dolphins and Sea Lions
This one is a total game-changer for kids.
We booked a dolphin encounter through Vallarta Adventures and it was AMAZING. The kids got to pet the dolphins, play games with them, and even learn about their anatomy and behavior from the trainers.

There are different programs depending on your kids' ages and your budget. Some let you actually swim alongside the dolphins. Others are more focused on interaction from platforms.
Quick tip: the professional photos they offer are worth it. Trust me. You'll want those memories captured.
Sea lion encounters are also available and honestly just as fun. Those sea lions have serious personality.
The educational component is what really sold me. My kids came home talking about marine conservation for weeks.
Highly recommended for families with kids of any age.
2. Release Baby Sea Turtles
This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
From July through December, Puerto Vallarta beaches host turtle release programs. Families can help guide newly hatched baby sea turtles from their nests to the ocean.
It is magical.
We did this at sunset and watched dozens of tiny turtles make their way across the sand toward the waves. The kids were completely captivated.

These programs are usually free or donation-based. They support local conservation efforts and give families an up-close look at these incredible creatures.
Just make sure to check the season. This only happens during nesting months.
If your trip falls between July and December, do not skip this. It is hands down one of the most memorable things we have ever done as a family.
3. Spend a Day at Aquaventuras Park
Need to keep the kids busy for an entire day? Aquaventuras Park has you covered.
This water park combines everything families love. Water slides. A lazy river. Dolphin encounters. Sea lion shows. And a dedicated Kids Adventure Park with climbing walls and challenge courses.
We spent a full day here and the kids did not want to leave.
The variety is what makes it special. Little ones can splash in the shallow areas while older kids tackle the bigger slides. Parents can relax by the lazy river.
There are also zip lines for the adventurous ones.
Pack sunscreen and plan to stay all day. You will not run out of things to do.
4. Explore Los Arcos National Marine Park
Los Arcos is a protected marine park just south of Puerto Vallarta.
The rock formations rising out of the crystal-clear water are stunning. But the real magic is underneath the surface.
We took a boat tour out to Los Arcos and spent the morning snorkeling. The kids spotted tropical fish, sea urchins, and even a small octopus hiding in the rocks.

Kayaking is another option if your kids prefer to stay above water.
For longer adventures, book an extended boat tour to places like Islas Marietas, Las Animas Beach, or Quimixto. These trips often include paddleboarding, snorkeling, and the chance to spot whales and dolphins in the open water.
We saw a pod of dolphins on our way back. The kids lost their minds.
Book through a reputable platform like Viator. Many tours offer refundable options which is always a relief when traveling with unpredictable little ones.
5. Go Zip-Lining Through the Jungle
Puerto Vallarta is surrounded by lush jungle. And the best way to see it? From above.
Canopy tours are available at several parks including Canopy River and Vallarta Adventures. You fly through the treetops on zip lines, cross suspension bridges, and take in views that will make your jaw drop.

Some tours also include horseback riding or ATV adventures through the jungle trails.
We did a zip-lining tour with our older kids and it was a highlight of the trip. The guides were professional and made everyone feel safe.
If you have younger children, check age and weight requirements before booking. Some tours have minimums.
But if your kids are old enough, this is an adventure they will talk about forever.
Where to Stay for a Family Trip
Location matters when you are traveling with kids.
We always stay in the Old Town area, also known as Zona Romantica. It is walkable. It is safe. And it has everything you need within reach.
But our favorite spot? Amapas.
Amapas is a neighborhood just south of Old Town. It is quieter than the main tourist areas but still close to all the action. The views of Banderas Bay are incredible. And the vibe is perfect for families who want a mix of adventure and relaxation.
If you are looking for condos for rent puerto vallarta, I would start there. The accommodations in Amapas are spacious, well-maintained, and way more comfortable than cramped hotel rooms.
Having a full kitchen is a lifesaver when you have kids. Breakfasts at home. Snacks on demand. No fighting over restaurant high chairs.
We have found some great condos for rent in puerto vallarta that feel like a home away from home. Extra bedrooms. Living space. Sometimes even laundry. All the things that make family travel easier.
If Amapas is not available, Old Town is our second choice. You really cannot go wrong with either.
Final Thoughts
Puerto Vallarta is one of the best destinations we have found for family travel.
The activities are diverse. The locals are welcoming. And the memories you make will last a lifetime.
Whether you are swimming with dolphins, releasing baby turtles, or flying through the jungle on a zip line, there is something for every age and interest.
My recommendation? Book a rental condo puerto vallarta in Amapas, plan a mix of adventure and beach days, and let the magic of this place do the rest.
You will not regret it.
Highly recommended for families of all sizes.
