I have a serious coffee problem.
Like, I can't start my day without a proper cup. And after years of living and vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, I've tried just about every coffee spot in Old Town.
Some are tourist traps. Some are forgettable. But a few? They're AMAZING.
Today I'm sharing my personal favorites , the spots where I actually go when I need my caffeine fix in Zona Romantica.
Let's get into it!
Why Old Town Has the Best Coffee Scene
Old Town Puerto Vallarta (also called Zona Romantica , same place, different names!) has this incredible mix of local culture and international influence.
The cobblestone streets are lined with colorful buildings. Artists sell their work on corners. And tucked between the boutiques and taco stands, you'll find some seriously good coffee.
I'm talking specialty roasters. Single-origin beans. Baristas who actually care about their craft.
It's one of the many reasons I LOVE this neighborhood so much.

Bean & Brick , My Go-To Spot
Okay, let me just say it: Bean & Brick is probably my favorite coffee shop in all of Puerto Vallarta.
I know that's a big statement. But hear me out.
Their espresso drinks are consistently smooth and perfectly balanced. Every. Single. Time.
It honestly feels like a little piece of Seattle got plopped right into the heart of Zona Romantica.
I usually order a flat white, but their americanos are equally impressive.
And the food? Don't even get me started on the savory croissants. They have these Mediterranean-inspired options that pair perfectly with your morning coffee.
The vibe is chill but not pretentious. You can sit there for hours with your laptop or a good book and nobody bothers you.
Highly recommended if you want quality without any fuss.
Dee's Coffee Company , For the Purists
If you're serious about where your beans come from, you NEED to visit Dee's Coffee Company.
They source single-origin, certified organic coffee from a small town near San Sebastián. And here's the cool part , they roast it right at the farm!
You can taste the difference. Trust me.
The shop is located in Centro, just one block up from Playa Los Muertos Pier. The street has these charming mosaic benches that make the whole area feel special.
I love grabbing a cup here and then walking down to the beach. It's the perfect way to start a lazy morning in Puerto Vallarta.

Elforoteo Coffee , The Local Hangout
Elforoteo has become one of my regular spots over the past year.
The atmosphere is clean and welcoming. Not too fancy, not too casual. Just right.
Their flat whites are excellent. Same with their americanos and cold brews.
But best of all? The breakfast menu.
I'm obsessed with their chilaquiles. And their tortas are seriously filling if you need something heartier.
Oh, and they have live music on Thursdays! So if you're looking for a coffee shop with some extra personality, this is your place.
It's right in the middle of town, making it super convenient no matter where you're staying.
A Page in the Sun , The Cozy Institution
This place has been around for over 20 years. TWENTY YEARS!
A Page in the Sun is a cafe-bookstore combo, and it's absolutely charming.
They serve hot coffee, iced coffee, and frappes that you can customize however you like.
But honestly? I come here for the atmosphere as much as the caffeine.
There's something magical about sipping a latte surrounded by shelves of books. It feels like a little escape from the world.
If you're a reader or just appreciate cozy vibes, put this one on your list.

Sea Monkey , Coffee with a View
Want to people-watch while you caffeinate? Sea Monkey is your spot.
It's situated right on the Malecón with beautiful ocean views. You can watch the waves, the street performers, and the tourists strolling by.
Their coffee menu is classic and straightforward. Nothing too complicated, which I appreciate sometimes.
Pro tip: They have 2-for-1 frappe deals in the afternoon. So grab a friend and enjoy!
I love coming here when I want to slow down and just take in the beauty of this city.
Puerto Cafe , For the Coffee Nerds
Okay, this one is for my fellow coffee nerds out there.
Puerto Cafe in El Centro specializes in things you don't see everywhere in Puerto Vallarta : flat whites and cold brew that are actually done right.
But wait, it gets better.
They offer pour-over options like Chemex, V-60, and Aeropress. If you know what those words mean, you're going to LOVE this place.
The baristas really know their stuff. You can tell they're passionate about what they do.
It's a bit more of a specialty experience, but totally worth seeking out.

Where to Stay for Easy Coffee Access
Here's the thing about Old Town : location matters.
If you want to be within walking distance of all these amazing coffee shops, you want to stay in the Zona Romantica or Amapas area.
Personally? I think Amapas is the BEST neighborhood for vacation rentals in Puerto Vallarta.
It's slightly elevated, so you get better views. It's quieter than the main tourist strips. But you're still just a short walk from all the action.
When I'm helping friends find condo rentals in puerto vallarta, I always point them toward Amapas first.
The combination of peaceful mornings and easy access to great coffee shops? Chef's kiss.
And if you're looking for something special, check out condo rentals puerto vallarta for some amazing options in the area.
My Morning Coffee Routine
Want to know what my typical morning looks like?
I wake up in my Amapas rental. The sun is streaming through the windows.
I throw on some sandals and walk down the hill into Zona Romantica. Takes about 10 minutes.
Then I hit up one of these coffee shops : usually Bean & Brick or Dee's, depending on my mood.
I grab my flat white, maybe a pastry if I'm feeling indulgent.
Then I wander down to the beach or the Malecón to enjoy it.
It's simple. It's perfect. And it's one of the reasons I keep coming back to Puerto Vallarta year after year.
Final Thoughts
Old Town Puerto Vallarta has an incredible coffee scene that rivals bigger cities.
Whether you want specialty pour-overs, cozy cafe vibes, or ocean views with your americano : there's a spot for you.
My top picks? Bean & Brick for everyday quality. Dee's for the serious coffee lovers. And Sea Monkey when I want to relax and watch the world go by.
I highly recommend exploring all of them during your stay. Grab a coffee, wander the colorful streets, and soak in everything this amazing neighborhood has to offer.
You're going to LOVE it here. I promise.
Happy caffeinating! ☕
