So the sky opened up and now you're watching the rain pour down from your balcony.
Don't stress.
Rainy days happen in Puerto Vallarta, especially during the summer months. But here's the thing , a little rain doesn't mean your vacation is ruined.
Actually, some of my FAVORITE days here have been when the weather forced me to explore the indoor side of this city.
Let me share what I've discovered over the years.
Make Your Own Chocolate (Yes, Really)
This is hands down one of the best rainy day activities in Puerto Vallarta.
The chocolate workshops here are incredible.
You can take a Bean to Bar Chocolate Workshop where you actually roast and grind cocoa beans yourself. You learn the whole cacao process from start to finish.
Or try a 2-Hour Chocolate Truffles Workshop where you temper, mold, and decorate your own creations. The best part? You take them home.
Cacao Magíco at Puerto Magíco offers another interactive chocolate-making experience. They teach you about cacao origins while you create something delicious.
These workshops fill up fast on rainy days, so book early if clouds are in the forecast.

Take a Cooking Class
The Mole Poblano Workshop is a 3-hour cultural experience that runs Monday through Saturday at 10:30 AM.
It starts with a visit to a local market.
You pick out your own ingredients.
Then you cook with traditional spices and cacao beans to create authentic mole.
I've done this twice now and learned something new each time.
The instructors are patient and the food is AMAZING.
If you're staying in a puerto vallarta condo rental with a kitchen, you might even try recreating what you learned.
Get Creative at Art Studios
Art VallARTa offers family workshops in pottery, painting, and puppet-making.
Perfect for kids AND adults.
You walk away with a one-of-a-kind souvenir that actually means something.
The city also has various art studios offering watercolor, acrylic, oil, ceramics, and beading classes.
Some are drop-in friendly, others require reservations.
I recommend calling ahead on rainy days because everyone has the same idea.

Hit the Arcade at Plaza Caracol
Galex at Plaza Caracol is a large indoor arcade with games, snacks, and even a bowling alley.
It's suitable for all ages, which means you won't feel weird going as an adult.
Trust me, I've spent more time there than I'd like to admit.
The bowling alley is actually really nice. Not what you'd expect.
Galerías Vallarta Mall also features arcade zones, indoor play areas, movie theaters, and colorful rides.
If you're traveling with kids, this place can easily fill an entire rainy afternoon.
Restaurants with Play Areas
This one is a game-changer for families.
Several restaurants in Puerto Vallarta have complimentary game rooms called ludotecas.
Your kids play while you enjoy your meal in peace.
CampoMar, La Vaca Argentina, Café Lukumbé, PlayTime, and Freddy's Tucan all offer indoor playgrounds, board games, and interactive activities for children.
The food is good too.
I've seen parents almost cry with relief when they discover these spots exist.

Visit the Naval Museum
The Naval Museum sits near the central plaza and offers bilingual descriptions of Mexico's maritime history.
It's small but interesting.
And free.
You can easily spend an hour here learning about naval battles, ship construction, and the history of this coastline.
It's air conditioned, which is nice when the humidity spikes during a rainstorm.
Catch a Movie
Multiple cinemas operate in the city.
La Isla VIP, Galerías Mall, and Macroplaza all have comfortable seating and current film releases.
Some theaters show movies in English with Spanish subtitles.
Others are dubbed.
Check before you buy tickets if language matters to you.
The VIP theaters have reclining seats and food service. Sooo worth it for a rainy afternoon.
Treat Yourself to a Spa Day
Sometimes the best thing to do on a rainy day is absolutely nothing productive.
Puerto Vallarta has incredible spas.
Book a massage, facial, or full spa package.
Let the rain fall while you relax.
This is vacation, after all.
Many spas in the Zona Romantica and Amapas areas offer same-day availability if you call in the morning.

Cirque du Soleil LUDÕ
If you want something truly spectacular, Cirque du Soleil LUDÕ at VidantaWorld in Nuevo Vallarta is worth the trip.
It's a 360-degree immersive theater experience with acrobatics.
Mind-blowing stuff.
You'll need to plan this one in advance and it's a bit outside the main tourist area. But on a rainy day when you're not going to the beach anyway? Perfect timing.
Where to Stay for Easy Indoor Access
Location matters when rain hits.
If you're staying in Amapas, you're in the best spot.
It's elevated with stunning views even on cloudy days, and you're close to all the indoor activities in Zona Romantica.
The area has great walkability to restaurants, shops, and galleries.
When searching for puerto vallarta condo rentals, I always recommend looking in Amapas first. You get the views, the location, and quick access to everything.
Old Town is another excellent choice for the same reasons : proximity to markets, museums, restaurants, and entertainment.
My Honest Take
I've been living in and around Puerto Vallarta for years now.
Rainy days used to stress me out.
Now I actually look forward to them.
They force me to slow down and explore parts of the city I might otherwise skip.
The chocolate workshops are highly recommended. Same with the cooking classes.
If you have kids, knowing about those restaurants with play areas will save your sanity.
And honestly? Sometimes the best rainy day activity is just hanging out in your condo, watching the storm roll over the bay, and taking a nap.
That's a perfectly good vacation day too.
Don't let a little rain ruin your trip.
Puerto Vallarta has plenty to offer no matter what the sky is doing.
